Barbara Boxer: I hope greens sue President Obama
By: Darren Goode September 7, 2011 09:01 AM EDT
Senate Environment and Public Works Chairwoman Barbara Boxer said she hopes green groups sue President Barack Obama over his decision to punt a regulation curbing smog-creating emissions until at least 2013.
Boxer whose relatively mild reaction to Obamas surprise announcement Friday was in contrast to heated rebukes by environmental groups said she will stand by those groups in any litigation to force the administration to issue a final ozone rule that goes beyond what was enacted by President George W. Bush.
Environmental groups charged that Obama made a political calculus by punting on a rule that was a particular target of critics who charge his regulatory agenda has hurt the economy and jobs.
Boxer didnt quite go there. Im not making any charge. Im just saying I disagree, strongly, with their decision, she told reporters Tuesday. She added, And I hope theyll be sued in court and I hope the court can stand by the Clean Air Act.
Noting that every president regardless of political party has been sued by environmental groups, Boxer said, And Im on the side of the environmentalists. If you factor in the health benefits you save so many lives and you prevent so many hospital admissions that its a big plus for the economy.
Boxer issued a statement Friday saying she was disappointed in the decision but also heartened by Obamas pledge in his announcement to safeguard the EPA and more specifically the Clean Air Act.

Awesome! Barack Obama wants to pollute the air.
Obama turned away from a piece of green legislation? Why, that must have been the missing piece! THAT was why things aren't perfect.
Liberals don't realize that they are fundamentally unhappy people, forever chasing an ideal of purity that they'll never catch, and wouldn't make them happy if they did. The only thing that helps, for a time, is to pass more legislation, and feel like something was done. It never turns out that way, but it helps sooth their inner rage temporarily.
They can badmouth Obama on this, but truth be told, they wouldn't hardly have noticed, even if he had passed it. It's just another hit to a mostly numb junkie. They notice the lack of hit, and whine reflexively, but the hit itself barely does a thing for them anymore.
Babs and Mr. Babs must be heavily invested in greens.
Poor fellow, I feel sorry for him. He didnt do anything to deserve that.
Yes...unfortunately she winters in her gated compound mansion in nearby Rancho Mirage......have seen her husband toodling around pricey "El Paseo" shopping district in his red Mercedes convertible, complete with UNITED STATES SENATE vanity plates.
I put good odds on a federal court somewhere ordering the Employment Prevention Agency to implement the new, lower ozone standards and shut down a bunch of coal power plants across the country.
Floating blackouts will follow, hopefully just in time for election season next year.
