Chuck Grassley: Sarah Palin won't run for president in 2012
Politico ^ | September 7, 2011 | ALEXANDER BURNS

Posted on 09/07/2011 1:59:52 PM PDT by CedarDave

Iowa's senior senator told the television station WHO that he doesn't expect Sarah Palin to take the plunge in 2012. From reporter Dave Price:

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley just told me he doesn't expect Sarah Palin to run for president. Grassley said with a smile, "She sure is acting like a candidate. But I believe she will not be getting in." When I asked him why she won't run, he replied, "She hasn't staffed up for it."

No one knows except Sarah what she will do. But truthfully, the waiting is getting old to this supporter that still has a 2008 "I'm voting for Sarah" bumper sticker on my P/U.

Wishing or predicting Grassley?

Sarah Palin represents just as much a threat to entrenched career RINOS, as she does to the Marxists.

Blow up the Beltway, Sarah.

The hacks just can't help but look at Sarah's potential campaign through the typical DC-based, big staff, hired-gun prism. She's already said that her campaign won't be conventional, and in my opinion, the One Nation bus tours were dry runs to see 1) how well the Palin family would hold up, and 2) to develop some idea of the cost of a low budget nationwide tour using the family RV, with O4P, C4P, S4P, FR, and TPX volunteers going in as the ground troops.

The election is still 14 months away, and so there is no pressing reason for her to declare now. Just look what happened to both Pawlenty and Bachmann---they got in early, staffed up to the eye balls, and promptly spent all their money. They're done, while Sarah has not even started.

In addition to your excellent observation I should add that the number one rule when going to work for Governor Palin is that you will keep your mouth shut.

Nobody will know what she has done until she wants you to know what she has done.

I wish she could figure out how to make her announcement, either way, during the “jobs” reading (speech).

Palin is not an ordinary candidate, and the ordinary leaders of the GOP do no want her, because they want the status quo.

In order to win the nomination, she has to outwit and outmaneuver them.

The longer she delays announcing her candidacy, the longer she keeps the ruling-class RINOs, state-controlled media, DemocRAT and Republican opponents, etc. in complete and total disarray.

Palin is coming, and the Tea Party is coming with her.

ineluctable

This is NOT a ‘hijack’ attempt ...

This issue reflects a nearly fatal flaw in the current operation of the National Election ‘cycle’. By some objective criteria, THIS ‘cycle’ is already almost a year old and the National Party Nominating Conventions are still a year away !

Self-nomination as a candidate this early in the ‘cycle’ is tantamount to suicide as it serves ONLY to position oneself as a target for the Media, the opposition party and the other nominees of your own party.

Ignore the sheer waste of time and resources spent ‘campaigning’ to create or merely maintain some degree of relevancy and then SUSTAIN it through the primaries and the nominating convention.

What appears most likely for the overwhelming majority of potential candidates is simply to provoke destructive attacks from all sides and to become the victim of ennui or over-exposure to friends and foes alike.

What MATTERS, ultimately, is who’s still standing late in the primary season and who is still ‘relevant’ come the nominating convention.

By delaying entry into such a self-defeating venture, a potential candidate MIGHT preserve a certain degree of dignity, resources and ‘relevance’ for when the contest actually matters.

‘Campaigning’, ‘debating’ ( !!! ), polling and producing ‘positions’ at this remove from the actual contest is a wholey ‘empty’ exercise for ALL concerned — the potential candidates, the potential voters, the potential contributors, etc.

The only ‘winners’ are the Media and the professional political hacks and operatives egging on the participants.

One Man’s Opinion ...

Good points. You note that most major players (i.e. current Washington politicians), though they say she won’t run, have not endorsed anyone. They will likely wait until just before the primaries to do so to avoid being labeled as a supporter of a withdrawn or losing candidate.

Puzzling since Newt—an avowed candidate—has not “staffed up” either.
His staff quite on him because he is not running a typical campaign.

Good point ...

Also, I neglected to highlight those ‘players’ whose only interest in the run-up to the late stages of the Primaries is to garner a block of ‘committed delegates’ to parley into bargaining chips in the convention ‘deal-making’ phase. These self-anointed ‘deal-makers’ serve no useful political function except self-aggrandizement.

In 1960, John Kennedy did not announce until January 1960. Of course he had like Romney been effectively a canddiate for the nomination since the 1956 convention, when the convention almost took the VP slot away from the leaders and chose him over Kefauver. Even with his farther’s money. however. his organization was relatively small. TV had not yet taken over the political process. That would not happen until the years following JFK’s murder.

"She hasn't staffed up for it."

In other words, she hasn't hired Tokyo Rove or any one of a hundred useless RINO consultants?

She won't be, either. She learned this lesson in 2008: don't trust anybody from the permanent political class.

Still will "staff up" with people SHE trusts, and it won't be anybody that the Beltway crowd recognizes.

Didn’t she say she was planning to announce in September? Since the elections will come down to 7 crucial states, independents will be a pivotal factor. Sarah we are told has high negatives among this group.

So a few questions:

1. What are the odds of receiving the nomination and getting elected if one is perceived to be ducking the preliminary rounds of debates?

2. Isn’t staffing important such as to have a “Rapid Response” team like Clinton and Obama had and which Bush pere and McCain did not have?

3. Running a national election campaign isn’t like winning state elections- You need sizable mounds of dough and know exactly where and how to spend it. Don’t we need people who have done the groundwork before just like Reagan had when he came close to clinching the nomination from Gerald Ford?

4. If September comes and goes and we have no announcement, then if its not too late by now, wouldn’t this be a tease gone to far?

BTW- these questions come from a Palin supporter but thinks her time for announcing and gearing up for what would be a battle royale is up or soon coming up. To be sure, the remaining choices, Bachmann excepted, are insipid.

Just asking

I am getting tired of all the back biting between Palin and Perry supporters. I wish she would get in or get out now. She is young enough to run in 2016 or 2020 and do a heck of a lot of good until then. I don't know if I will be around to vote for her in 2020 I'll be 90 then.

Good analysis however one thing that has made the process begin earlier is the moving of a lot of the primaries to early in the year. Thus one has to be a player or maybe not able to complete at all.

One time constraint pending on the candidates is the deadline to apply for a GOP primary ballot position. Depending upon the state criteria varies from just a notification to things such as fee payments and petition signatures.

Example:
Oct. 31 — Florida
Nov. 1 — South Carolina
Nov. 21 — New Hampshire

I wish I could find a state by state listing of the dates but so far I’ve not found one.

I wasn’t addressing the trappings of the failed process.

It matters not WHY the ‘nomination’ run-up season has been stretched out so much. I was addressing the wasteful and pointless exercise itself — THAT it is broken, not so much the symptoms of HOW it is broken.

And don’t get me started on the primaries themselves or I’m liable to mention ‘open’ primaries and other such shenanigans ...

You would think all those “we need to get the money out of campaigns” politicians would be applauding Palin. She is showing the way of not playing the political money game. Instead of criticizing her, they should shut up and take notes.

Of course, they don’t “really” want to limit their campaign money. The Establishment Elites true desire is to put limits on challengers.

Wouldn’t it be great if others could grasp how monumental this election could be if they’d only get over their one track “we have to beat Obama” mantra.

But truthfully, the waiting is getting old

Truthfully you wouldn’t think it was getting old if the MSM quit harping on an issue they have no control over.

They want red meat and Palin refuses to help them destroy her. The establishment politicians of both party want to control the debate and she is not cooperating.

Whatever she decides, I am going to vote for her, even if it is a write in.

If she waits until then because it is someone else's turn, then it won't matter the deed will have been done, and we will have become a full blown democracy, exactly like Churchill described. Two Foxes and a Chicken deciding what is for dinner.

1. How many of the voting public are paying attention to the preliminary rounds of debates? I suspect the average voter doesn’t start paying attention to anything regarding the election until shortly before their state primary.

2. Palin responded on Facebook within 24 hours of Hoffa’s SOB speech. We’re still waiting on some candidates to make any comment.

3. Do we know exactly who Palin may already have working for her, that are out of the spotlight?

4. Palin herself said she would announce by the end of September. The closer it grows, the more we’re hearing the shrieks of ‘she will!’ ‘she won’t!’ from the ‘experts’.

The independents are as tired of politics as usual as we are.
