Navy fires another commanding officer, the 18th this year

The Navy has fired another commanding officer, the 18th this year, surpassing last year’s mark of 17 with slightly less than four months left to go.

Cmdr. Mark Olson of USS The Sullivans was relieved of his command due to a loss of confidence in his abilities following an Admiral’s Mast on Wednesday, according to a Navy news release.

Vice Adm. Daniel Holloway, commander of U.S. 2nd Fleet, made the decision after close examination of an incident that occurred Aug. 17 during a gunnery exercise in the Cherry Point Operating Area range, the release said.

Navy officials said inert rounds landed close to a civilian fishing vessel, which was mistaken for a towed target the ship was instructed to engage. The vessel and crew of the fishing vessel were unharmed.

Splendid post. I had heard that story before from my father who also served in the U.S. Navy during the Pacific War. Dad could not relate that story without getting teary-eyed. Thanks for the reminder.

I am the father of 5. I cannot nor can my lovely bride, insert into our adult children the brutal sacrifices made to put them in the privelidged position they now live in.

History repeats because it is forgotten. Not even video can make them understand the horror of wars fought to give them what they have. What they take for granted and normal.

It’s true. With the drawdown coming the military is looking at finally kicking these people out.

Admiral saying they should have been live rounds?

I was aboard USS Laws, DD558, for a 2 week training cruise in 1963.

During gunnery practice off San Francisco, a frantic message was recieved of shells hitting all around a Japanese frieghter. She was 180 degrees away from our target...OOPS!

We also managed to royally PO the air crew towing the 40MM AA targets...we chopped off the tow cable about 10-12 FEET aft of the towing airplane...OOPS!!

After a port call in Eureka, CA, one of our escorts sideswiped a Japanese lumber freighter in the foggy harbor, shearing the escort’s lifeboat davits off one side, among other extensive damage to both the ships...OOPS!!!

A summer cruise to never be forgotten, AND I got PAID to take it! Gotta love the Reserves!

Oak Harbor is a small town. Got to be pretty stupid to drink and drive in that town.

Thanks. I cloud up each time I even think about these boys and the price paid by this family — and all families of those lost in these crazy wars.

Thanks. We need to think much harder before we put men such as these in harm’s way.

Thank you. Yes, our young folks aren’t being taught much of this in the government schools these days. It’s up to US to remind them of the costs.

A Cmdr. doesn’t make a stupid mistake like that — not if he has attained the rank of Cmdr. Of course — a Captian never makes video’s like that Captain did last year either and attains the raink of Captain.... Is our Navy THAT screwed up?!

Still, with so many command officers being pushed out, this looks like a purge of some sort. By whom? To what end? That would tell us alot.

IF it’s the Navy, tightening up the ranks and getting rid of troublemakers that heretofore had been “protected” or “overlooked” for some reason, that’s one thing. HOWEVER, if this is some kind of political or Agenda-driven move from outside the Navy, to put the “right people” in place for any future plans or curcumstances — well, suffice it to say that would be neither welcome nor encouraging. But it’s something We The People have a NEED to know, don’t you think?

Something is badly wrong with the Navy...

With douche bags unprofessional leaders like Dan Holloway in charge, I'm not surprised.

Thank you! My mother's family goes all the way back to the War for Independence - I have traced cousins who fought for both sides in the Civil War - My grandfather was in the Army in France in WWI - my dad was Army Air Corps (Air Force) - one uncle was a Marine in Korea and Vietnam, another uncle was on one of the UDTs in WWII....I have an entire library of US History just by looking through family and genealogy records!

I also know that my family is not that unusual - there are many people who could cite such statistics and if we remember from what patriots we have descended, we can and will, preserve this Republic!

Ubama is purging the Navy of commanding officers who aren’t on board with the sodomization of the military.
There’s a quota for faggot officers now.

Thank you so much for your touching post. I know how hard it was for you to mumble an expletive, and then walk away.

My husband served in the Navy during Viet Nam. Though he had considered himself to be career Navy, he resigned his commission 1976 because they were so PC, even back then. We have both come to realize that they are probably the most PC branch of the military.

Sad...
