Thank you. I’ll take a look when I’m in a youtube friendly environment.
There is a problem with raising the age, even if it's phased in over time. There are people in the workforce that labor physically. You won't see to many cement contractors in their late 60's. The ultimate solution is to gradually move away from the ponzi scheme and into privatized accounts. The era of the defined benefit pension is dead in the private sector. It does not work.
Yep. I didn’t plan on needing SS. Then a divorce after a long term marriage wiped me out. Now I will have to live on it. Fortunately, my career is non-physical. But that also means I was blind to what you brought up.
I do, however, think that people are going to find out the hard way that “if it is to be it is up to me” very soon, though. Those will not be salad days.
Scary, but true.
I think this is a fight that Gov. Perry will win. In the short term all the "establishment types" will talk about "toxic" calling SS a Ponzi Scheme is, but in reality that is exactly what it is. The next step after revealing his opponents for being timid is to offer solutions. I would bet Gov. Perry will begin rolling out solutions early next year.
If he can stay on track we could end up with a POTUS who has a mandate to actually fix SS, Medicare, and end obamacare. We won't have that if we get a POTUS who just says whats politically acceptable.
Isnt that the truth. All day long, what I have heard in rebuttal is, “ No its not. Its legal.”
Good argument.
OK, “It’s a legal Ponzi scheme.”
Perry puts the audience at ease. He draws you in. While others appear to be programed and anxious (not so much Newt) that they’ll make a mistake, Perry appears relaxed and comfortable in his skin — not on pins and needles that one slip can kill his campaign.
He’s not afraid. That is attractive in a president.
I agree.
It is a real disservice to people to promise something that ultimately can't pay out as it promised. I think Pres. Bush was on the right track with privatizing a part of each persons SS account. Ultimately we need to return to the idea of personal accountability, but it's not practical if the govt keeps putting up barriers.
Shades of Billy Madison: Everyone is how dumber ...
LOL. Hoisted by my own you know what ... should be now.
THE problem with SS is/was that it was set up as a Ponzi scheme to begin with! The bahstid Congresses took ALL the excess of SS revenue (paid out what was due with plenty left over) and spent the rest, year in and year out-Repub or Dem. Oh, wait, they "borrowed" from the trust fund and left an IOU. Wink, Wink.
It was set up as a cash cow from the start!
I've heard estimates of what if they did not spend the money and actually kept the excess in the trust fund; there would be enough to satisfy the program for 30 years, IIRC.
It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native criminal class except Congress. - Mark Twain
