Fired former Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz could lose $10 million for violating a non-disparagement clause when she raged that the company's board members 'f***ed me over.'
Miss Bartz, in an interview with Fortune after her Tuesday firing by phone, also said the board was 'trying to show that they're not the doofuses that they are.' However, according to Fortune, her contract with Yahoo contained a clause barring her from criticizing the internet company.
A source told the magazine that Bartz could lose $10 million over her pointed comments.
That clause, if violated, could allow Yahoo to cancel a $10 million payout, due if she was sacked.
Miss Bartz made the call to the influential business magazine from Silicon Valley as reporters waited outside to report the news of her departure.
She said she was in New York on Tuesday to speak at Citigroup's technology conference on the following day. And she revealed that she was scheduled to call Mr Bostock at 6pm but when she did he promptly started to read a lawyer's prepared statement dismissing her. Miss Bartz told Fortune: 'I said "Roy, I think that's a script. Why don't you have the balls to tell me yourself?"'
She went on to explain that the by the end of the call she merely replied: 'I got it. I got it' as he finished reading the dismissal notice.
She told the magazine she had told her former boss: 'I thought you were classier.'

If I lost a $10 million dollar seperation package because of some BS non-disparagement clause, every executive who had a role in dismissing me better be looking over their shoulders for the rest of their short-assed lives.
she was in over her head,
like carly fiorina at hp.
Very small fiddle.

Seriously, that’s the same woman?
Whadda buncha yahoos.
No sympathy here. It was a "BS non-disparagement clause" to which she agreed in a contract. If the company chooses to exercise that clause, she brought it on herself with her own stupidity.
Maybe they could hire somebody who could make them a stable, reliable, usable email system.
Thats what a good photographer can do for you.
There’s an awful lot of technique and technology applied to making “women of a certain age” look better.
I understand, but it’s irrelevant: Those people would live in fear.
Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.
WOW, just wow.
didn’t jerry wang turn down $35 billion from microsoft?
i bet yahoo regrets that now.
they’re going down the toilet.
Hmmmmmmm........losing 10 million for calling someone ELSE a doofus.
Personally, I think firing someone by phone is poor. Have the decency to do it in person.
If you signed a non-disparagement clause and then violated it you are the one in the wrong. I hope they keep the 10 mil and anything else they can.
You’re an idiot. You threaten someone over a contract you willingly signed and then willingly violated.
I’d watch for ya and put a .45 in your forehead and feed the remains to the hogs.
Sometimes its not feasible to do it in person, especially for people at those levels who are in different cities.
How many people has this doofus fired or cost their employment because of her incompetence?
I’d see you long before you saw me.
What I want to know is what the estimates are for attorney’s fees in the lawsuit declaring “You F@@$ed Me Over” was a statement of FACT and not a disparagement.
Well, she probably has had more than enough reasons to occasionally take a drinkie-poo or two.
10,000,000 less reasons today I suppose...
I'm rubber and you're glue...
Another woman bites the dust. Can you cook honey?
She was known at Yahoo as some vulgar _itch!
Which explains why they chose to fire her over the phone.
Hmmm. Ridden hard and put away wet, looks like.
“She was known at Yahoo as some vulgar _itch!
Which explains why they chose to fire her over the phone.”
Her post firing behavior is certainly consistent with that. If she wants to collect $10 million severance after getting fired, its not too much to expect that she keep her mouth shut.
Defending her choice of words describing what they did to her may be the easiest part of the inevitable lawsuit.
Establishing the factual basis for informing Fortune magazine that the Directors are “doofuses” could also be a walk in the park.
EternalVigilance offers the key, her challenge will be to demonstrate how each of the board members had a hand however so slight in developing Yahoo’s new email program, or paying for it, or approving its release, all over her vigorous and timely objections. I have been a user since my floppy disk days and the current program sucks. Experts and milions of users will rise to her defense if she can link the Board.
They can also use HighWheeler’s photos to depict the stress she has endured and the obvious physical hardship she has experienced trying to save the company from the actions of this totally inept Board. Hell, with a little luck she may get more than $10m.
Boy, she sure is ladylike, huh? Heavens! I never cease to be amazed at the short length of time that it has taken for our culture to go through such disgusting changes.
Sadly, that disqualifies most of them, it seems.
Maybe she’s like that Seinfeld girl who looked bad in certain lighting.
Maybe they could hire somebody that knows how to build a real search engine.
Nope. Jerry Wang turned down $40 billion from Microsoft.
According to sources close to the situation, the board
director given the task of firing Ms Bartz over the phone,
was advised to use a language that would be clearly understood
by her, and was reported as saying: “Your ass is trash!”
Analogous to, “I love America, and would never disparage her, which does nothing to change the fact that President Obama is an incompetent doofus, who needs to ridden out of DC on a rail, along with all of his Czars!”
Same here; and I am NOT "upgrading" to let them read my INCOMING mail to target ads to the SENDER! I will miss my Yahoo account, but I'm dropping my membership.
They have slowly but surely removed one favorite feature/workability after another, and now their new email policy & program is the last straw. I'm slowly downloading the emails I've saved over the years; and the addresses I have there & not elsewhere (very few), then pulling the plug.
Yep! Whenever the switch was on; looked her very best in the inkiest dark.
Just for you. Get it? Apparently not...
Real class act. \sarc
Back in the day certain quite expensive camera lenses were made JUST for this purpose. Some Hollywood types would not have their publicity pictures taken without the use of the Wollensak Verito.
These days a lot of this is done with digital post-processing, but there still is a largish market for
Add in the right lighting and makeup and a great deal is possible.
She looks like she rolled out of bed after battling the flu. Not a good presentation, in spite of the poor lighting.
“That clause, if violated, could allow Yahoo to cancel a $10 million payout, due if she was sacked.”
Note to self: Get the money first.
