When Beijing Daxing International airport opens in 2015, the Chinese capital will become the world's busiest aviation hub, handling around 370,000 passengers a day. It is only three years since the opening of Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital Airport, a sweeping structure designed by Sir Norman Foster that is far bigger than all of Heathrow's five terminals combined. But an enormous boom in China's aviation industry has already left the capital's existing facilities stretched to breaking point. "It is impossible to add even one more flight to the tight daily schedule of the Capital airport," said Li Jiaxing, the minister in charge of China's Civil Aviation Administration. "The existing airport in Beijing has an annual capacity of 75 million passengers. Last year it handled 73 million," said Cao Yunchun, a professor at the country's Civil Aviation University. "In two years, it will be totally packed. And it cannot be expanded infinitely," he added. Instead, Beijing's planners have found a 21 sq mile site to the south of the city, in the suburb of Daxing. Currently the site is around an hour's drive from the city centre, but planners are pencilling in an extension to Beijing's metro, and perhaps even a high-speed train line.

... High Speed Rail - did someone say High Speed Rail??
American interest payments need to be spent somewhere.
LOL,
LOL,
This is the kind of thing powerful nations build.
I remember when America was powerful.
Meanwhile ten years later and still no completed building at ground zero. America should be ashamed.
Unfortunately i think this will unleash the waves of millions of people in an army as described in the bible
I cannot see millions attacking USA (by boat? millions? it would be way too easy to sink them all)
But I do see a spark like this set off by the diaper-heads thinking they can pull the same crap in china. Then the waves of millions of men in the army cross Asia to settle the score, wipe out the threat, and bring home some arab women (china is way short on women)
LOL—I live near Chicago, and they’ve been trying to expand O’Hare for decades. I think it points to the root cause of the problem.
When China goes bust, it will just sit there empty.
A zombie airport, no doubt, to serve the zombie cities with nobody in them.
Hope I never have a connecting flight there.
Actually, what’s more pressing in the need to expand Shanghai Pudong International Airport—being the business center of China, Shanghai-Pudong is already reaching its limit of international passengers it can handle.
The plan for the next ambitious expansion includes the addition of the fourth and fifth runways, a Satellite concourse, larger than the size of both of the current terminals combined, and additional cargo terminals will expand the size of Pudong International Airport. Land reclamation will be included for the fifth runway and some of the cargo terminals. This next expansion will be completed by 2015 and will make Pudong one of the world's largest airports by land size. Recently, China Southern Airlines stated that Shanghai Pudong International Airport will be home to its five Airbus A380s, however there is no statement if China Southern Airlines will have a hub in Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
Mega airports like this will also be built along with other mega airports (though not as large as the Beijing airports) and many smaller airports throughout China.
If current trends continue, by 2040, China will be able to move its 1.3 billion people around as easily as America can move her 310 million people around, today.
And they all look alike!
It's all so confusing!
That is mind boggling!!
Can you really blame Airbus for building a factory in Tianjin? My fear is with that kind of leverage (potential market for airplanes), the Chinese will be able to bully Boeing, Airbus and all the major jet engine makers into selling them sensitive military technology
I don't think China is trying to bully Boeing or Airbus for military technology. China will ultimately have to develop it herself. The full range of technology simply cannot be bullied or stolen from someone is they don't want to allow it. So, China's military technology will lag the civilian industry for awhile longer. In the meantime, she will claw her way forward in that area by using one simple measuring stick. Moving up the rankings in military sales on the global stage. Which she is doing.
To expand O’Hare, you’d have to condemn several thousand private homes around the airport....otherwise, there is NO room to expand..
