they were doing so because their traditional neighborhood high school wasn't a good fit Instead of schools fitting the student, shouldn't the students fit the school?

$500,000 right down the crapper? Hey, that's chump change.
Didn't Obama and Ayers go through a cool $160 million in Chicago Annenberg Challenge money in the mid-90's? It was/is Obama's ONLY previous executive experience before the Presidency. They ended up with no real, measurable educational attainments --- but it did gain Obama a bunch of cool new friends in Chicago with their brains full of Karl Marx and their pockets stuffed with grant money.
