Louisiana Democrats field no major candidates for statewide office

No statewide Dems in Louisiana? I guess the old Edwin Edwards adage no longer applies that the only way for a Dem to lose reelection in Louisiana is to get caught with a dead woman or live boy in his bed.

Do many people think that the Democrats are the party of gays, feminists, racial minorities, environmental extremists, etc?????

In its broadest strokes, though, what has happened in Louisiana is what has happened across the South and especially the Deep South. Emory University's Merle Black, a leading scholar of Southern politics, notes that Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La, the only remaining statewide-elected Democrat in Louisiana, is also the last Democrat in the Senate from a Deep South state, which now sends but a single white Democrat -- Rep. John Barrow of Georgia -- to the House.

That is amazing!

But the DNC seems not to care.

The porcine Mary Landrieu is safe for a few more years (2014), but if the dynamic continues, I'd imagine she needs to start thinking about alternate career plans as well.

I'm guessing there's a decent chance she won't even run for reelection if things continue to break our way.

Most people I know, in my area (Thibodaux, Houma, Morgan City, LaRose), hate her with a passion.

It’s going to be interesting times in Lafayette with the merging districts. If Landry gets picked that signals we’re on a healthy right course. If Boustany wins, IMHO, it signals a more typical old boy, establishment, RINOist orientation.

Landry is running hard to the right of Boustany with his votes and talk so far.(Pretty proud of him)

Think Boustany is going to have a tough row to hoe if he doesn't move to the right.

Guessing the tea party is going to back Landry big time to boot.
Landry destroyed Rat/Rino Hunt Downer without a problem last primary election.

Going to be interesting.

It was interesting...On August 26, Vitter and Landry held a joint townhall here in Lafayette, in the middle of Boustany’s district :-) I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in Boustany’s office when it was announced.

On the other side there are no republican senators from the Pacific states.

It sure did happen fast. When my daughter entered Tulane in the Fall of ‘00, the College Repubs were pushing her to register and vote there rather than in VA, the contest was considered so close. We were visiting LA when Mary Landrieu defeated Suzanne Haik Terrell and Blanco beat Jindal. How things have changed!

Obama happened pretty fast too. I’m sure this is a backlash against Obama. McCain beat Obama in La. by just short of 20 points. And McCain was not even popular here. By the time the primaries got to La. McCain had already been chosen but Huckabee had not dropped out yet. Huckabee took Louisiana.

Republicans to gain more control of the La. Legislature

Noticed on a local level, parish council, etc, that things are becoming more and more Rat free.

A good sign and about time.
