SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California lawmakers have sent the governor a bill making it a misdemeanor for openly carrying an unloaded handgun in public, a practice popular among certain gun enthusiasts.

The court cases that have upheld the "may issue" California CCW law stated that the law did not violate the Second Amendment right to bear arms because citizens could still legally carry unloaded arms openly without a permit.

If this law is signed by Governor Brown, then that will no longer be true.

And by that virtue BOTH the CCW and OC laws must be thrown out as violations of the 2nd Amendment; they will have no excuse now.
{Also, that same court decision can be used as the basis for charging the CA legislature wint Conspiracy Against Rights, a federal felony, US Code Title 18, Ch 13, Sec 241.}

Since the writ of the US Constitution seems not to extend to the State of California, I guess those who reside there do not have the Second Amendment to protect themselves against thieves, skallywags and politicians. I would caution those who live in the other 49 states to not visit, trade with or move to California as other common natural rights and civil behaviors may not be afforded to you by California should you ignore my caution.

I saw a sign in a hotel once that they would arrest you if you got on an elevator with an unlit cigarette.

The resistance against the Nazis in WWII carried anyways. The resistance against California Nazis will do the same.

Even if (when) Jerry Brown-nose signs this it will not take effect immediately.

Until it does take effect, EVERYONE who can should open carry, at every opportunity.

Dumb cops and their superiors will harass, intimidate, and arrest as many as they can.

But open carry will still be legal, so let the lawsuits commence!

Put the proceeds toward funding the repeal or overturning effort.
Let the anti’s fund their own defeat.

So as long as I openly carry and my gun is loaded I'm good to go.

A good way to challenge the law...maybe...probably not, but a strategy useful for one looking for 15 minuets of fame.

What kind of country would this be if this Chamber refused to pass this bill just
because it violated some rigid idea about what government could or could not do? /s

We would love to have you in Arizona, but we don't have any seaports or coastline!

At the time, it did not appear the Baja was worth what the Mexican government was asking. Given hindsight, we should have taken them up on the offer with the Gasden purchase!

Seems that a million man open carry march would be compelling. I doubt that many are so committed.

49? Do you think we have any sort of "right to carry" here in Illinois. It is a class A felony here to think about guns.
