The Capital Survey Research Center, which does polling for the Alabama Education Association, has surveyed Alabamians about President Barack Obama and the candidates seeking the Republican nomination.
First, the president.
Of the 841 registered voters who were polled, a majority said they did not like Obama and the direction he was taking the country. This comes as no surprise since a majority of those polled (488) said they would vote next year in the Republican primary.
In the GOP contest, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is favored by Alabamians over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, though nearly half of those polled didnt know who Perry was.
The fly in the ointment seems to be former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. She was rated unfavorable or very unfavorable by 56 percent of those polled. She also polls as the weakest candidate against Obama. But 12 percent of polled Alabamians who plan to vote in the Republican primary said they would support a Palin bid for the White House.
As polls in other states and regions have shown, Palin would take votes from Perry. With Palin in the race, 22.5 percent would support the Texas governor, 20 percent would support Romney.
But if Palin is not in the race, Perry would get the votes of nearly 30 percent of Alabama Republicans a jump of 7.5 points. Romney would gain only 4 points. About 14 percent of GOP voters were undecided, so if Romney can hold his base and attract the undecided, then Romney might pull it out. But it will be difficult.
Since a majority of those polled said they thought the country was going in the wrong direction, it was not surprising that 64 percent rated current economic conditions as poor. What is surprising is that more than 47 percent told pollsters that their personal economic condition was good or excellent, despite the pessimism about the economy. Thats possibly an indication that those polled are doing well in comparison to others they know, but they are nonetheless concerned about the future.
This early polling says several things about Alabama Republicans.
Perry is slightly on top, but he has name-recognition work to do.
Romney remains firmly in the race, but he has far to go.
Perry supporters surely hope Palin stays on the sidelines.
Any of the Republican candidates can beat Obama in Alabama, but the former Alaska governor is the weakest in the field.
Now Republicans must wait to see what Sarah Palin will do.
I am growing rather fond of Palin and her balls to the wall attitude. If she got to Washington and was told “That is not how it is done here in DC.” She would fire back that how it has been done isn't working anymore and we are going to do things differently now......we really need a change that I believe Palin could deliver.....
She also polls as the weakest candidate against Obama
Provably false. If this was actually the case,, during the primary, they would be building her up as a maverick,, a reformer, etc.
Then they would attack her AFTER she had the nomination.
Instead,,they are doing everything they can to stop her from being the nominee.
Excellent post — and 100% correct!
Nope.
2016 if Obama wins this time. 2020 if he doesn’t.
I don't care what Sarah does. I was a Palin supporter but I got tired of the games.
The icing on the cake for me was when she went to the Iowa fair as a non-candidate the day of the debate. Tacky! tacky! tacky!
She is a two-year governor of a state with only 700,000 people...not enough experience to be POTUS by a long shot!
She has gotten as bad as Charlie Schumer looking for a camera.
SARAH is the only one who will do everything to get the job done. Because she is a conservative in heart.
Bingo she will do everything she says and that scares the left and the right elites. Sarah gonna shake it up and make it fun.
“Hey Boys Did You Miss Me” at the first debate she attends would be precious.
Okay then - prove it. In every poll I have seen, Palin polls lower against Obama than Romney, Perry, Bachmann and sometimes even Paul. IF you have evidence to the contrary, other than just your belief that all polls are fake if Sarah is not in the lead, please post it.
Where do you think she is going to find these new supporters? She has the highest name recognition of anyone in the race, the highest negatives of anyone in the race, and the fewest number of voters undecided about her of anyone in the race. I'm not saying she can't begin to change some minds, but where are the people who are going to cause her to "rocket up" going to come from when she announces? You believe that when they get to know Perry, they will not like him - they already know Sarah and know they don't like her.
Good article from Tea Party Tribune:
‘Fox News war on Sarah Palin’
http://www.teapartytribune.com/2011/09/07/fox-news-war-on-sarah-palin/
they already know Sarah and know they don’t like her.
They do not know Sarah they know Sarah the McCain water carrier and the women the media tried to destroy. When this is all done the MSM will be rooting Sarah on because it is a better story. However I might be drinking too much Sarah kool aid here.
For some reason, MSM is bound and determined to convince the rest of us that she ought not run.
why would anybody believe MSM/Rep est polls? This is aimed at anybody that believes these polls, there are no non msm/rep est polls btw.
I have been preaching to anybody that would listen for well over a decade about polling, and the fact that there is no “science” in political polling, just boggles my mind that so many take every poll as Gospel???
Cant figure out for the life of me why people believe these polls, any polls, they all have an agenda, from Fox to Ras to any of them.
The latest joke is to average phony polls.
Riiiight. That's why, the day after Iowanola, she went and ran in a 13.1 mile half Marathon under her maiden name (for anonymity) with no press in attendance (she never breathed a word of it to anyone). We only know about it because she was recognized by a TEA Party runner after she placed second in her age group (7.68 minutes per mile average over 13+ miles).
Yeah. You've sure got her pegged. Wow. What a media hound.
All deserved ridiculing of you aside, it's a measure of how truly spectacular she is that runny rumpstains have to fabricate deceitful bullsnot about her to have something to whine like prissy little fembots about.
Lonestooge.
;^\
She probably really doesn't want to be noticed while running because she wants to run unbothered.
But to show up at the Iowa fair on the day of the debate and not an announced candidate? That was tacky.
Besides, you can't argue that she isn't qualified because Alaska is half the size of San Antonio in population...and 60 % of Alaska's pop. is white.
All Sarah does is talk! If she hasn't decided by now whether or not to run for POTUS, she shouldn't!
It didn't take her this long to resign the office she was elected to!

And you CSI007, are a blithering idiot. If you knew anything about me you would know that I support both Sarah Palin and Rick Perry, and have promoted them as the Republican ticket against Obama/Biden.
Re Iowa event: Suppose she has every intention to run but just hasn’t announced it? Would it be tacky or smart for her to be there to tacitly remind voters she is still in play?
If she knows for is pretty sure she isn’t running, then your argument is better.
In any event, I want her to run, but it is obviously her decision. No need for anybody to change their mind now; the games havent been played. Why doesnt the NFL just crown a NFC champ based on exhibition games and beat writers’ opinions? same here.Lets see the primary results. When the Elites tell us it is too late for her, then why do they care if she gets in late? It’s too late right? So she’ll for sure lose right? the Elites protest too much.
Sorry Mister Yankee but you don’t know what you are talking about.
Don’t forget that we loved our Governor George Wallace so much we made his WIFE governor—long before you Yankees were electing ladies letting gays get married.
Most of the “Good Ole Boys” I know, myself included, are ready to vote for Sarah. And we will if she runs.
LOL, you know lots of “southern guys?”
