Stringent Texas voter ID law means changes at Texas polls "Its still unclear what happens after that. Whenever the state Legislature passes a measure that affects voting or changes the mechanisms by which a Texan casts a ballot, a provision of the federal Voting Rights Act allows the U.S. Department of Justice or the federal courts to review the law. That process is pending. The Texas Secretary of State filed its request for pre-clearance with the Department of Justice last month, and a response is expected in September. If the department rules that the bill will not adversely affect voter turnout, opponents of the measure are likely to file litigation to halt the measure." Voter ID laws in TX, GA, SC (history of voting rights discrimination) concern Dems
The Goldwater Talking Point (gearing up for Rick Perry) -- Too extreme to win.
And here I was, clicking on your post, thinking that the Governor was talking about used food.....
Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin, who still have not ruled out entering the race, are also well-liked by Republicans (74% and 69% favorable ratings, respectively), but also do not generate the same degree of strong intense feeling as Perry and Cain. Giuliani's current Positive Intensity Score is 15 and Palin's is 13.
Perry Remains Best-Positioned Candidate
Perry's combination of high name recognition and a high Positive Intensity Score help make him the best-positioned candidate for the Republican nomination at this point, underscored by his lead in Republican nomination preferences. Cain's enthusiastic support is offset by his low name recognition, and other well-known candidates like Romney, Michele Bachmann, and Ron Paul, do not generate the same level of intense feeling as Perry.
Perry has room to grow within his name recognition numbers.
I like Perry. I really do.
But there’s just something in his eyes when he made his, “Running for President,” speech.
It almost looked like he was simply, “Playing our song,” to gain followers.
But, I’ll be happy to admit that I might be wrong.
It’s too early to tell at this point.
Then most Texans, including the author of this article, are pretty dumb. There isn't a Constitutional expert in the country who would agree that Texas somehow has rights denied other states. And that includes leaving without the consent of the other states.
Give it a rest.
Be sure to ping me when you do.
Except that it is true. The Republic had conditions on joining the Union
Don’t know about “look in his eye”, Perry has been a damn good conservative Governor for Texas, has been reelected twice by very conservative Texas voters facing liberals, libertarian thruther and RINO. We will hate to give him up, but if he can do half as good for America it’ll be worth our sacrifice.
Maybe when you do.
But let me point out that this wasn't a criticism of Perry because nowhere in his disjointed secession remarks did he say or even imply that Texas had a special right to walk out of the Union. He is no doubt aware of the Constitution and it's limitations. So if anything, I was criticizing the bone-headed author of the article and not Perry. All he did was make some remarks that he'll spend the campaign trying do defend when asked about them.
I actually don’t know what is the true legality of this thing, but when I was growing up in TX (admittedly in the dark ages, )we were certainly taught that when TX joined the union, we retained the right to leave the union if we weren’t happy with it.
In the 90’s I paid some Constitutional lawyers a lot of money to tell me if there was ANY path where Texas could secede. There is no path and all the “rights” the secessionists are claiming were given up at the end of the Civil War.
Perry is just pandering and bordering on treason.
Except that it isn't true. Heck, even the state of Texas itself says it isn't true. Link
Texas is constrained by the Constitution in the same way and the same areas as every other state is. One of those constraints is that a state can't just walk out whenever they want to.
It's amazing to this non-Texan how Texans, on the same conservative site, can have such a radically different view of their own governor.
“All he did was make some remarks that he’ll spend the campaign trying do defend when asked about them.”
Yes, but that’s true if a candidate is seen as a serious right-leaning candidate by the government-media complex, and if s/he says anything meaningful. As long as they say lots of pretty nothings, it’s hard to take their words out of context and twist them into slanders.
(And, for the 400th time - I’m not a Perry supporter - just observing the situation.)
We will just have to disagree about that, SoJo.
I can't imagine any conservative listening to this speech and not believing this is a sincere, authentic and bold Conservative leader.
What gave it away? The fact that he wears more makeup than the former Gov? Or the FACT that he gave away TEXAS (Trans Texas Corridor) to the globalist cabal?
Nice post, but an historical nit: Freemantle did not reach Lee’s headquarters until June 22, 1863, two days after that year’s equinox and therefore, early summer.
Welcome to FR heavy Perry Derangement newby. I am sure the ronpaulnutz who hide behind Palin will appreciate the help.
Its quite clear you are stupid about anything Texas or anything Perry. Not to mention stupid about Chile or the Chilean SS.
Your fervent anti-Perry posts have a smelly Muttbot flavor, but then again it is so hard to differentiate between Massa2shits RINO and a liberal, you could be a troll from DNC.
That is incorrect and since you posted the Texas-v-White case (which wasn't about secession) then you should know that.
Perry needs to do a campaign commercial about this. He needs to have a plain spoken Texan saying “They lie to you. They lie to you all the time. They take what a man says completely out of context and make it seem like he said something else. They think we’re too dumb to know the difference. Well, at one time we may have been too busy to pay attention, but with the way our economy is now, believe me we’re paying attention now.” and then show the whole comments, on several things, pausing at what they say he said, and then completing the sentence. Finish it up with “We’re sick of being lied to.”
In the meantime the arch criminal and traitor Eric "Fast and Furious" Holder has less than two years in office ~ and then it's prison time!
The “radical” views are emminating from paul camp. His wack-os holler loudly, just like at debates and online, puffing up pretending to be big and mainstream. There are maybe 6 or so heavy PDS posters, most Texans who think well of Perry are like Tea Party people, not apt to shout about it.
You will notice lots of Perry Derangengers claim Palin for safe cover, for if they were honest about being paulnutz everyone would dismiss them without a second thought.
Consider why Perry has been reelected twice. Do you think Texas is not a very conservative state?
Spoken like an expert in "dumb". Go back to the DNC websites where your unique "talents" will be appreciated.
Thank you. Great article. So it will probably be a big STALL by Eric Holder and then some “aggrieved” parties in the state(s) will take it to the activist appellate court and then back and up again. Holder needs to get on with it....but I’m sure he is in no hurry (it will play better closer to the election).
It may very well have been an issue when negotiations were ongoing about admitting Texas to the Union. There were probably a lot of other issues that came up too, doesn't mean Texas got everything it wanted.
Found this site that might be of interest regarding Texas and some common misconceptions.
Because you say so? I guess I'm going to have to learn to live with your disapproval then.
Well as John Adams said, "Facts are stubborn things."
Thank you for the link!
Losing a war is always bad.
I didn’t say it was, I said you have to climb over it.
There is no path for ANY State to secede and Texas (if they ever had any rights to) lost them at the end of the CW.
Yes the Constitution does have a provision but the is NO path for it, it would take years maybe decades to establish one.
All my Ex’s live in Texas.
Keeping an open mind is a good thing. You won’t find many conservative (not speaking of libertarian paulnutz) Texans thinking badly of Perry, he has done right for us.
You seem to want to perpetuate the idea that the racists are pushing.
I think I saw a wanted poster with your picture on it in Neiman Marcus just the other day. You better stay out of Texas. :D
Rick Perry was the first Republican Lt. Gov. to be elected since Reconstruction.
Upstate NYers have been talking about secession for years, though not from the union, just from Downstate :-)
You mean like the Jimmy Davis bridge? That mean ol TTC must have been stolen, like our rain.
You need to crawfish on that TTC horsehockey, it was only an idea that never happened. Ever hear of I-69?

Amil Imani Governor Perry's Islam Connection
No matter how I tried, I couldn't reach the conclusion that this inclusion promotes Islam or is pro-Sharia. It seems that the mere fact that Islam is included in the curriculum represents supporting it. And with regard to the concern that the education curriculum Perry promoted is pro-Arab and against Israel, the evidence is exactly the opposite. The lesson on Israel reads:
Should be the same for the illegal aliens as for Texas.
Gots ta' go ta' the end of the line first!
Sunday, September 11, 2011 Austin, Texas
On a Tuesday morning 10 years ago, we watched in horror as terrorists hìjacked four of our commercial airliners, attacked the United States and killed nearly 3,000 civilians on our soil. Two thousand miles away from that attack, 73 emergency response professionals in Central Texas - members of the Texas Task Force i, the state's elite search team - were among the first to respond to the call for help with search-and-rescue operations.
In the aftermath, we witnessed heroic rescue efforts, a surge of patriotism and a display of great dignity. People at home and abroad rallied together in support, proudly flying American flags in unity and reverence. We rose above the ashes with courage and compassion. Our country demonstrated an optimism that no attack could weaken.
The Texas Legislature has designated September 11 of every year to be Texas First Responders Day to honor emergency aid professionals. As we remember the parents, children, brothers and sisters whose lives were tragically cut short by these attacks, let us also acknowledge the men and women who bravely stepped up to serve following those attacks.
THEREFORE, I urge all Texans to honor the profound sacrifices and dedication of our peace officers, firefighters and emergency medical responders. Every day here in Texas, they answer the call for help and offer invaluable services that bring relief and comfort during the worst of circumstances. First Lady Anita Peny joins me in extending our deep gratitude to them on this day and every day.
THEREFORE, I, Rick Perry, Govemor of Texas, do hereby proclaim September 11 ,2011, to be
Texas First Responders Day
in Texas, and urge the appropriate recognition whereof.
In official recognition whereof, I hereby affix my signature this the 6th day of September, 2011,.
Governor of Texas
There’s always one or more threads going on FR where posters cleverly and originally write, “Kick California out of the Union and build a wall around it!”
So here’s my question: could the U.S. really do that? I mean, I understand the Civil War settled the question of whether a state can leave of its own accord.
But what if all the states voted to give one the boot? Constitutional or not?
So many of the Perry people seem focused on Ron Paul I gather that Ron is Ricardo’s “stalking horse” ~ !
Well, I’m old—but not that old—LOL! I certainly went to school after the War Between the States—(quite a long while after!) and we were still being taught this.
