Mitt Romney didnt wait long to begin his attack on Rick Perry over Social Securityhis campaign is doing door-to-door distribution of a flier attacking Perry on the issue.
The flier, which a campagn spokesman said is being left at the doors of Florida GOP primary voters, portrays the GOP primary as a two-candidate raceTwo candidates. Only one will protect whats important to you, is the headline.
Of those two, it says, Perry is reckless and wrong on Social Security. The bold-face tagline: Rick Perry: How can we trust anyone who wants to kill Social Security? Romney, it says, favors entitlement reform, but wants to save Social Security.
Perry has not directly advocated abolishing Social Security, although he has called it a Ponzi scheme and questioned whether its constitutional. In last weeks candidates debate at the Reagan Library debate, the two clashed on the issue, and Romney accused Perry of being committed to abolishing Social Security. But during the debate, Perry promised emphatically that he wouldnt do anything to affect the benefits of current retirees or those nearing retirement.
Romney isnt paying attention to the nuances, however. In the nations biggest swing state, which happens to have the second-largest population of 65-plus residents, he clearly hopes to put Perrys views into question.
Romneys move makes it virtually certain his clash with Perry in the Reagan Library debate will be repeated Monday in the Tampa debate sponsored by CNN and the Tea Party Express.
Not a Perry fan, however, he better have some plan ready to talk about tomorrow at the debate if he wants this to go away.
And Mittens thinks this is the way to sway the base? What a dope. Why doesn’t he just run as a Rat and be done with it.
Romney should be kicked from the party for pulling this Democrat crap on a fellow Republican.
Romny -— a line through his name — bye bye
Romney now supports what he has in the past called a Criminal Conspiracy. That flannel suit, wind bag, could debate himself every day just based on the various sides he has taken on every issue.
if romney’s the candidate,
i’m not voting.
i voted for the bush dynasty and look what that got us.
How can you trust someone who lies about his opponent. I hope Perry comes on strong with his solutions tomorrow night and I hope republicans kick Romney to the curb. I hate liars.
Mitt - I didn’t like your politics much before. Now, I really, really don’t.
Perry’s problem is not the diagnosis of the problem. His problem is as of this time, he does not propose a solution to a problem he recognizes.
He will continue to be vulnerable as long as he continues to repeat the words ‘Ponzi Scheme’ without telling us how he plans to solve the problem.
How about looking at Herman Cain’s idea of looking at the Chilean Model?
See discussion at FR here:
This colossal mistake makes it a two man race, Perry and Palin.
Pray for America
Romney outs himself as the lying sleazebag we all know he is. Can’t wait to see Perry call him out on it. I hope that Perry is crafting the perfect response as we speak!
Perry can’t kill it.
SS already committed suicide;)
And, herein, is (IMO) Romney’s downfall as a potential GOP candidate. He wants to save the SS “Ponzi” scheme for future generations.
I say let it die. Kill it now. It was NEVER about establishing a government run retirement plan, it was always about taking people’s hard-earned money to squander now in hopes that Congress could figure out a way to pay it back later.
The chickens are coming home to roost on this issue and Congress is so shaken by what they have done, they can’t figure out which way to run.
Here are some questions you should be asking your favorite Congresscritter: If SS is such a great plan, why did the Congress opt out of it and establish a separate retirement plan that taxpayers fund?
And, if the Congress doesn’t belong to SS, why are they making ANY decisions about it and/or the future of SS?
Inquiring minds, my FRiends, inquiring minds . . . . .
Yes, Cain is the man with the plan. But we are supposed to be sophisticated enough to know that president’s don’t come with plans. Plans will be tossed out and revised by congress. What is important are the ideas and the ability to get things passed.
“It is a bad plan that admits of no modification”
Anyone not sophisticated enough to understand this probably won’t read the plan anyway.
Romney is a flip flopping scum who will say anything to get elected. We know that.
Perry’s mistake is not reminding everyone what he actually said. Perry said its a Ponzi scheme for young workers. And that if anyone promises them they will get benefits the way the program is going, its a monstrous lie. What is so wrong with that? Nothing. Perry has made very clear he isn’t going to slash current beneficiaries’ benefits. So Perry is attempting to have an adult conversation and the media and Romney take it and run with it to make it look like Perry is going to destroy current Social Security.
Romney is being incredibly disingenuous here. It’s kinda creepy.
He actually thinks accusing the Republicans of wanting to destroy social security is going to get him the GOP nomination.
He's about as conservative as Barney Frank, and more ridiculous looking.
