Epilog to a “Grid Down” and the last days of millions.
Self, vanity

Posted on 09/12/2011 6:14:24 AM PDT by Any Fate But Submission

“I’m hungry grandma Kay” Abbie cried “When are we going to eat”? “I don’t know sweetie, I’m hungry too” Kay replied. Abbie just stood there in the living room in her bulky coat and boots swaying back and forth with her head hanging down and weeping softly. She was already skin and bones, Kay knew she wouldn’t last much longer. After 6 weeks there was nothing to eat anywhere, nothing. “Grandma, remember when I told you my friend Marla’s family was storing food at their cabin?” said Abbie. “Yes” Kay sighed. “Why didn’t we store food?” Abbie asked. “Well” Kay said sheepishly, “Everyone thought it was silly back then, a waste of time…. But that was when we had electricity.” said Kay as she slumped exhausted in her favorite chair, knowing she could not save Abbie or herself. She thought “If only….” She ran her glove across the fine leather chair and realized she could have bought enough food for years for what she paid for her beloved chair; it would have been so easy back then, just 6 weeks ago. Now, she would give all she had for a single can of stew.

Dr. Graham, chair of 2008 EMP Commission report to Congress estimates only a 20% survival rate after an EMP 250 miles above Kansas due to the difficulty of producing and distributing food without electricity. Iran has 2 satellites orbiting Earth at 250 miles high and is preparing to launch more.

NASA fears loss of world wide electrical power due to a super solar flare such as the 1859 Carrigan event that disrupted telegraph.

Iran and Venezuela are buying the Club-K Container Missile Launcher from a Russian munitions firm. 4 cruise missiles, nuke capable, 250 mile range fired from freighter, train or truck. It would take 4 containers one on each of 4 freighters to nuke 90% of our coastal cities and we could not stop it.

When did NOAH build the Ark? Before the flood. BEFORE THE FLOOD!

Store a year of food per person, well hidden to avoid the above conversation that you really do not want to have with your child or grand child.

Everyone thought it was silly back then, a waste of time,

and inherently racist, because it was a statement of non-confidence in our First Black President.

The other day, I was at my inlaws, big elitist 'rat supporters, and talking about RANGE TOPS of all things. One woman got REALLY MAD when I said we were going to go all natural gas in our home.
(the implication was that electricity might soon be a scarce commodity due to greenie policies and 0bama)

All that food makes me a target. Just a home where I rarely leave makes me a target. Use of firearm force will make my enemies (desperate invaders) use more diffident tactics when trying to raid my cache. I’d rather take it easy on the food supplies, keep my interests mobile, and fund a way to gather supplies quickest, before the competition.

I put storing food with savings. What good does it do in a real catastrophe? NONE! Money (or gold) would be useless. As in Titanic, when the officer threw the money back in the guy’s face for trying to “BUY” a place in a lifeboat. (Also, in the movie, one thing of practical value was a gun)

Food, would be a very short term solution. Starving in a week or in a month is still starving. A GUN on the other hand can get you all the food there is to be had and protect the food you do have.

Arable land, the knowledge to use it, and the means to defend it, are the only long term solutions.

Looters would be shot.

Traitors would be hanged.

I'd say your best bet is to have good preparations in a relatively safe location, and the means to defend that location. And friends to join with you - there is strength in numbers.

There is no question that people with guns will travel around looking for easy pickings. My guess if that if things get really bad, a well-prepared homeowner might shoot anyone coming down the driveway. In such a case, having the food and staying put in a prepared defensive location will be infinitely superior to being a wandering bad-ass thinking, "I've got a gun; I'll just take what I need."

Read the EMP novel Lights Out by David Crawford.

http://lightsoutthebook.com/
http://www.amazon.com/Lights-Out-David-Crawford/dp/0615427359/

The book started out as a free online book posted on a survival forum. It’s now out as a real paperback book, and is well worth the price.

I’ve read Lights Out about 3 times. It is a real can’t-put-it-down book. It has a believable storyline, a lot of practical ideas on a small community pulling together, and just the right amount of action but not overdone.

Can’t recommend it enough.

It looks like your plan is to steal food from others.

I’m speechless. Well except for words that would get me banned. Shame on you.

I sincerely hope you don’t make the poor decision to approach our property with that line of thought. We will be forced to take 10 minutes out of our busy day of surviving to kill your sorry azz.

Ditto.

Oh, and it is best for people like this to consider that they are not the only ones with guns.

I’ve heard it said the way to get the most protein from an acre of land is not from cattle, or even chickens, but from rabbits. A few pet rabbits aren’t expensive to feed, and in times of need can be maintained without commercial food.

... and if you are using that GUN to try and steal food from others who are armed it could get you killed.

Storing food now is preferable to risking your life and theirs by planning to steal from others later.

Typical Democrat-voter attitude: Don’t take responsibility for your own needs. Instead just steal from those who do.

I can only hope that an editor was allowed to go wild on it since it had MANY superfluous scenes in it. Not to mention that Marine neighbor was just so GD annoying. It had potential, but I just couldn’t get into it. Not like “One Second After” which had me riveted from start to finish.

My interpretation was hunting (and a gun for that purpose is part of my food plan), but others interpreted this differently. Please clarify. Note: I suspect that looters will last only a few days before they hit the wrong home; even groups of looters will not last, thanks to armed Americans who shoot, shovel, and shut up. The difference is that real Americans hit what they aim at, while the looters will lack the target practice and training, counting on spraying bullets instead of aiming.

“One Second After” by William Fortschen is a “must read” book. Much food for thought in the book.
