Palin Defends Perry on Social Security
newsmax.com ^ | Sunday, 11 Sep 2011 03:01 PM | Newsmax Wires

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry has taken a lot of heat for his critical comments toward Social Security. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says that Social Security shouldn’t just be jettisoned but that the Texas governor is right to call for reform.

"Well there's no need to frighten or throw under the bus our esteemed elders who have paid all of their working lives into the Social Security system. And the question should be asked of the politicians, where the heck is their money?" Palin said on Fox News.

"What Rick Perry was trying to say I believe is that there needs to be reform. Status quo is not acceptable because these programs are insolvent . . . So he's saying reform is necessary, and we either reform these entitlement programs ourselves or the world capital markets will reform them for us."

Perry’s main competition for the presidential nomination, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, cuts him no such slack. His campaign is passing out a flier in Florida ripping Perry as "reckless and wrong on Social Security."

Perry needs to come out with a Social Security Fix Proposal that alleviates fears of current recipients and probably anyone over 50. A good start would be increase age of eligibility, a “means” test and eliminate the Cap on earnings for social security contributions.

Social Security is a fraud and a scam. It was originally conceived as a welfare entitlement do enslave all future voters as DEMONrats. The amount you receive back after paying in hundreds of thousands if not millions in FICA is a pittance that wouldn’t feed a mouse and his family for a day. Best to stop it flat right now.

I would hardly think that “schooling” Perry is the same as “defending” him.

Who comes up with these headlines?

She said exactly that during her speech in Iowa AND in NH before the debate. I think most, if not all the flak being directed at perry for what he said about SS is pure political pandering to a whole constituency that has learned better in the past few years. Most people in the over 50 age brackets didn’t get that old being stupid.

Perry/Palin 2012

I hope Perry doubles-down on his Socialist Security is a Ponzi scheme declaration.

He should start by asking how many of his fellow candidates are currently participating in Socialist Security.

He may not be participating himself. I don't know. But it will at least give him the high ground of honesty on the subject.

And a darn fine question it is. What about that there Social Security Lock Box? Social Security is soon to be broke because, golly gee Wally, the system really is a ponzi scheme. But if politicians had not been raiding the money for decades, it would have lasted a lot longer.

Politically I see it as Palin being a tea party spokesperson and this statement shows her class and humility as well as her openess to be Perry’s VP.

To call this ‘schooling’ from Palin to Perry is ridiculous. If Palin were asked point blank if she thinks she is ‘schooling’ Perry she would say indeed not Rick and I are friends and share the same tea party politics.

Other than a horrible immigration report card, Perry is not a very good speaker. I am judging from the debate.

I will admit I haven’t heard him speak a great deal.

GWB was far more eloquent. At least GWB seemed to know what he was going to say and then deliver it. He got that word xenophobe out of his mouth in record time. LOL

The headline on Drudge says this am that Perry is sticking to his guns.

For those of us who have followed Perry for a long time, this is playing out predictably and well: Perry is digging his heels in and in this, he is not going to be swayed. This is EXACTLY what he did on tort reform way back in 2003, when Texas was the lawsuit capital of the world. (A lot of freepers don’t fully appreciate the importance of that issue...and Perry, along with others, but Perry was important, made it sort of a non-issue and this was after decades of domination of Texas by liberal plaintiff’s lawyers).

Yes, before all the border crowd chimes in here, we understand that Perry is not good on the border. Understood.

But the fiscal health of the country needs some serious attention, and SS reform is a piece of that. And Perry is now showing that he has some backbone and he is not going to back down from this fight. What will his reform plan look like? Hard to say...but he is openly identifying the problem, and he’s not going to back down from that and that is a good thing.

How much does it cost tax payers to ‘run’ the social security administration? I have tried to locate the number but cannot find it.

I am not convinced anyone has a handle on how to ‘reform’ this agency because it is ‘too’ big to fail. I cannot find the number of employees that are currently working for the SS administration, but there are 10 regional offices plus many field offices.

I do not oppose reforming the system, but it is the ‘system’ bottom up, that needs the overhauling. And soundbites from politicians are not going to get US anywhere. Unless or until elected politicians are outlawed from dipping into the money pot the system will never get fixed.

Please stop playing the blame game.I have seen it clearly, if a poll is favorable of Palin it is breaking news,if it is not favorable of Palin it's a bad, MSM they hate her poll. It is old, sounds bitter, catty and childish and Gov. Palin is not like this. Politically speaking IMO if Palin was even thinking about throwing her name in the hat and running she would never be speaking out like this. I don't think that Politico is the tank for Perry.

Palin bolsters Perry on Social Security

My son, a liberal who is still defending Obama, read the article in the NYT that praised Sarah (to their own stated amazement) and my son said that Sarah is right and he agrees with her.

This is really quite incredible. However, he thinks that since the Gifford’s shooting that she has no chance - on this I disagree.

Sarah changing the mind of my son - not to mention the NYT - is stunning to me.

Here’s an idea that we could make part of Social Security reform:

At regular intervals such as monthly, acturial, financial and census inputs will be crunched and out will pop a set of results, one for each age group at calculation time. Each citizen will combine nis result with his earnings history to get his projected benefit.

By doing this each of us would know what to expect from the Social Security program.

Your solutions would be just doubling down on a Ponzi Scheme - I already pay $6,500 a year into SS and will most likley never see a penny, especially if they raise the age and means test the program.

It’s time to change and reform the SS program, not double down on a failed program.

Jack Wheeler has endorsed Rick Perry and here is his opinion on the debate:

Jack Wheeler states:

As for the debate itself, Perry won flat out. It was The Rick Perry Show, also featuring Mitt Romney as a polished articulate wonk. Rick Santorum wore a pink tie, Ron Paul conformed to his crazy uncle in the attic role, Gingrich pontificated as the elder statesman-advisor he's morphing into, Bachmann was a wallflower, Huntsman an idiot Warmist, and Herman Cain had a great proposal that the audience cheered:

"I propose my 9-9-9 plan: a straight 9% corporate tax, 9% personal income tax, and 9% federal sales tax. If 10% is good enough for God, 9% is good enough for the federal government."

Perry came off immensely real and likeable. His energy and personality dominated. He didn't back down, he double-downed on Social Security being a Ponzi scheme, "a monstrous lie" to young people. He made fun of Warmism, comparing climate realists to Galileo (and thus "consensus science" to geocentrism). And he drove the audience ecstatic with his response to FM propagandist Brian Williams' question over the 234 death row executions under his governorship:

Williams: "Have you struggled to sleep at night with the idea that any one of those might have been innocent?"

Perry: "No sir, I've never struggled with that at all. In the state of Texas, if you come into our state and you kill one of our children, you kill a police officer, you're involved with another crime and you kill one of our citizens, you will face the ultimate justice in the state of Texas, and that is you will be executed."

Williams was scandalized, and especially by the audience cheering. So he asked Perry what he made of it. Perry shrugged, smiled knowingly, and answered: "I think Americans understand justice."

When Gov. Palin has been called names and worse,
including during the Election of 2008 and later,
where WAS the RINO Perry?

Jealous, misogynist RINO Governors Attempt to Silence Gov. Palin
"GOP Governors Pull the Plug On Palin's Press Conference
The Republican Governors Conference Press Guidelines promised
that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would “take approximately
20 minutes of questions” at today’s morning press conference.
Instead, this press conference, attended by 150 local and national media
and taped by 26 video cameras, disintegrated into a fiasco
when Texas Governor Rick Perry shut it down after
only five minutes and four questions.
"

"Eight other governors assembled on the stage, all men, seemed
visibly uncomfortable with the “Palin at center stage” format.

When Perry stepped in front of Palin at the podium to announce
it was over just as it was getting started, Palin looked irritated,
and the media shouted, “You’ve got to be kidding,”
“This is ridiculous,” "Come on,” and
“We were promised more questions.”

Perry is much more a politician than Palin because he’s much more likely to fold into a political compromise/accomodation deal position than Palin.

Palin isn’t likely to compromise or accomodate on matters of principle ... Perry is.

Therein lies the beauty of Palin’s auto-biographies.

Compromise and accomodation are vehicles of moral dishonesty.

Perry has a short editorial in USA Today defending his tough talk on the issue. Drudge had a link.

Due to Gannet rules, FR cannot post links to USA Today.

Briefly, Perry reiterates what he said in the debate: while retirees and those near retirement are fine, the program is going broke fast and we need a blunt conversation about that fact and what to do about it.

The only solution is to make sure that they understand that their retirements will be covered via the general fund regardless of the solvency of the system.

Means testing should kick in at some point, though.

That of course would mean that our politicians would have to show leadership to assuage the bad feelings created by this blatant violation of trust so all non-military federal pensions will have to capped at $50,000 and all legislative pensions will have to ended with our legislators getting the means-tested SS for their retirements.

This is complete and utter bull malarky!I refuted this claim in another thread titled something like...’Perry jealous of Palin’. Why didn’t you post the video? The video shows the truth.

I watched the video in full screen twice.

I saw Palin step back to give the podium to Perry. He did not disrespect Gov. Palin in any way;(if anything they looked rushed to move on to another agenda/meeting) and Perry seemed lke he got a cue from off stage to move it along.Click below and kindly scroll down to see for yourself..

If it looked like Perry was in command he was; he chairs The Republican Governors Association (RGA).

As Gov. Perry chairs the RGA committee. It may be why he took the podium/ microphone to move things along when Palin stepped back? The reters last question was ridiculous and it looks like Gov. Perry saw this and decided they were on a time schedule.Unless I hear differently from Gov. Palin, her and Perry are good friends, she endorsed him and there is no contention.

As far as the other video of all the governor’s standing on a stage and Palin is ‘visibly uncomfortable’,please post a link or video.I doubt it as she is such a superb human being full of humility yet full of confidence; she would never feel this way.

Possibly just maybe possibly common sense is utilized in believing Palin when she says she does not need a title. And she is a good spokesperson. Her endorsement being an outstanding thing does not make her running (as of yet) a frontrunner nominee. It may also be some people’s opinions that Palin has as much of a chance at the nomination and beating Obama as Bachmann has. If not less. That does not make people anti-Palin or Bachmann. If you were to post you don’t think Bachmann has a chance at the nomination right now, that does not necessarily make you dislike Bachmann nor her policies.Just because the above may exist and they’re are people scared Palin could not pull it off does not make them bad people,or some how anti-Christian,or anti Palin.

Glad to hear Sarah sticking up for what is right and Rick Perry is right on SS.

Still will prefer Sarah but it is good to see another R not back down on SS or capital punishment (why is this a presidential debate issue anyway-rhetorical question—Brian Williams would rather not talk about the economy)

Now if Rick can find a way to close the borders
