Sen. John McCain, a critic of President George W. Bush's use of enhanced interrogation techniques in the war on terror, reflected on the issue of torture a decade after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
Abu Ghraib and the torture of prisoners hurt us a great deal and did provide a propaganda tool for our enemies including Al Qaeda, the Arizona Republican said on "Fox News Sunday."
Noting that on the 10th anniversary of those attacks he did not want to dwell on his differences with the current and previous administration, McCain applauded both Bush and President Barack Obama for the advancements made in the war on terror.
Many of the things that we did achieve were very laudable, McCain said. The United States now has vastly improved capabilities to combat our enemies.
Torture HELPED US you lying POS RINO.
It wasn’t “torture” until fools like McCain allowed the term to be redefined to include techniques that do no injury at all.
who hurt who?
no, McPantStain, wafflers like you hurt us.
i’ve seen that photo so many times. I have never figured out what the hell he was doing at that moment. Was he making a gesture to someone off-stage?
No it was torturous to vote of you Sir. So I did not vote for you. I voted for Sarah Palin and hope to be able to have the privilege to do it again soon.
McCain was never tortured in Vietnam. The fact he keeps harping on this is proof positive McCain doesn’t know what real torture is, hence he never experienced it.
If he had first hand experience with torture, he would know that what we may have done to the terrorists doesn’t come anywhere close.
Defining things as torture, McCain just came up with his own standard.
For political reasons....torture can be described as making them listen to loud music, standing in the corner, what about throwing cold water on your face to keep you from sleeping?
I wouldn’t be surprised if they say locking someone up is torture in the future.
Sorry, John, but you cannot be an objective observer given your history, Not a slam, just fact. What you and your fellow prisoners went through was unimaginable. However, it was done with cruelty as the objective; concern for physical well-being of the subject was non-existent. No rational observer would equate what you experienced to enhanced interrogation performed in the face of an existential threat. You are not that rational observer.
Sigh.... and they attacked us before any supposed torture why?? They haven’t successfully attacked us since 9-11 why?? Nothing we have done even remotely approaches what he and his fellow POW’s went through and has SAVED countless lives in the bargain.
Perhaps if the leakers out there would have kept their mouths shut and the word of our dastardly panties on the head torture of prisoners never got out we wouldn’t still be discussing this nonsense.
Having Juan as the GOP 2008 candidate was torture.
It gave us Obama.
Having a photo taken with panties on my head would have been better. LOL
..during the nation wide debate, the clown got disorientated as to what direction to take..(entrance stage right)..so as not to look like a boob, he pull this stunt...(world wide)
Abu Ghraib was not torture. They do worse things for frat initiations.
McCain can’t lift his arms above his chest (watch when he waves) due to being hanged by his arms with them tied behind him while at the Hanoi Hilton..
Just because McCain is mentally ill does not mean you should disreagrd what he says.
But nobody much is listening to him anymore. He has nobody's attention, on the Republican or Democrat side. He is largely irrelevant.
I’ve seen that photo several times...do you know anything about it? What was the circumstance..and is it photoshopped?
Barring all that...McCain is a vile & despicable old man. What was AZ thinking in reelecting that POS?
There is a huge difference between what we do and what people who engage in ACTUAL torture do.
Thus people on our side should always differentiate.
McCain was tortured and still carries the wounds decades later.
After a session of waterboarding a jihadist would be perfectly physically able to play a rousing game of racket ball.
McCain ..part of the blame America 1st crowd
And while I am usually quick to refute McQueeg's waffling due to his suppressed PTSD from captivity, for once I think this interpretation of his comments was a deliberate oversimplification by the headline writer. He is correct that it made us look bad.
But so what?
If wearing panties on one's head is the worst that happens to these hateful tools of Islamist terror masters, BFD.
There are ways you can disagree with your country without exalting yourself and making it all about your moral superiority—but McCain always avoids them.
McInsane is wrong...torture saved lives.
Conservatives: McCain tortures US.
Exactly. McCain WAS tortured, not merely PRESSURED to give information that if nonexistent, would have ended the torture sessions.
His North Vietnamese communist captors are living rent free inside McCain’s head. McCain is so messed up he thinks our style of water boarding is torture. McCain gets to put on his moral superpower act since he got some real torture in captivity.
“Discomfort” is NOT torture!
(McCain’s RINO-ness is what hurt us.)
I apologize for voting for him but there was no other way to vote for Sarah.
if you go to 1:29:10...you’ll catch a glimpse of clownie acting up......
you can fast forward on this vid, just go to 1:29:00 and watch when the debate was concluded...
Exactly ... and note to McLame ... it isn’t about you because Obama sucks all of the “ME ME ME ME” air out of the entire planet ...
Thank you John McCain for your military service to your country and for giving Sarah Palin the VP nod.
Your work is done. Please retire.
and the New York Times and the Democratic Party.
I am late in the game on this thread. First I saw it. What the hell is he spouting. Now for real he is trash. God he would suck as President along with Obama.
Can I have my vote back. Seriously I know I voted for Sarah like everyone else but this guy just plain sucks!!!!
Yes McLame torture does hurt so please stop torturing me!
I’ve heard other guys who were POWs with McCain say that when he was dragged back to his cell after being tortured he was so badly beaten he was unable to move.
It's called a write-in vote.
Poe: Yes, but McCain has a long history of collusion with the Shadow Party.
During the 2000 presidential campaign, Soros sponsored two so-called Shadow Conventions, held at the same time and in the same cities as the Republican and Democratic Conventions, in Philadelphia and Los Angeles respectively. Their purpose was to promote campaign finance reform. John McCain gave the keynote speech at the Philadelphia Soros Convention (as columnist Robert Novak dubbed it), while Russ Feingold did so at the LA event.
McCains service to the Shadow Party brought him financial benefits. In 2001, McCain founded the Reform Institute for Campaign and Election Issues. The Institutes major funders were mostly leftwing foundations. Prominent among them was George Soros Open Society Institute.
Poe: As I said, the McCain-Feingold Act was a Trojan Horse. It made the Shadow Party possible. Among other things, it forced the Democratic Party into a financial crisis, enabling Soros to swoop in and buy up the Party at a bargain-basement price.
Democrats have traditionally relied on large, soft-money donations from unions, while Republicans relied more on small, hard-money donations from mom-and-pop donors. When McCain-Feingold outlawed soft-money donations to the parties, Republicans were not unduly hampered, but Democrats flew into a panic. They faced the real possibility of bankruptcy.
Enter George Soros. After forcing the Democrats into a fiscal crisis, he then offered to rescue them. He set up a network of non-profit, issue-advocacy groups the Shadow Party and invited all the big Democrat donors to contribute to his network. Thus they could still contribute to the Democrat cause, but without giving directly to the Party. The Party became dependent on Soros to raise campaign contributions which the law now forbade the Party itself to raise.
“..after being tortured he was so badly beaten he was unable to move.”
That’s true and it explains his views even if he is dead wrong on waterboarding. He is a RINO jerk!
Calling it toture hurt us.
