"Out of every dollar that I earn, how much do you think that I should be allowed to keep?" asked a young man at the GOP debate last night. This was arguably the best question of the night and a good politician would have won a lot of points for a personal answer.
"I love that question!" Michele Bachmann exclaimed, but she did not get an opportunity to address it.
Sadly, debate moderator Wolf Blitzer pitched this question to Jon Huntsman, who rambled on about his economic plan and the enormous national debt. Wrapping up his answer, Huntsman condescendingly lectured the man and his generation telling them to get involved in the 2012 election.

At best, the League of Women Voters is a rabid, partisan, liberal constituency.
We need to each ask that questions of our representatives in any town hall or Q & A meeting with them. Give us a percentage, not based on income but on how much of our money is theirs and how much is ours?
Yes it does, and needs to be asked of every democRAT candidate as well.
I know there’s an “opt-out”, Perry has said so in both debates. Santorum had a great point in both debates—”Why wasn’t there an ‘opt-in’?” And why did he feel this sudden urgency that couldn’t wait for the legislature? Why was he forcing people to do it, burying the “opt-out” in the fine print of his magnanimous decree?
He really tried to be on all sides of the illegal immigration and border security issues last night and it was completely, transparently pathetic. I don’t expect Romney or Huntsman or Gingrich to be any better, frankly.
Cain answered that question earlier with his “9” “9” “9” plan.
I think that if the candidates were wise they would answer every question from all the debates on a camera and put it on YouTube. Because the moderators only let a few of them answer the questions.
Ok, but there must be some unbiased group.
If not, why not have conservative questioners at the democrat debates, to confront them on their class warfare ‘rhetoric’.

You are in NC I am in Texas I knew there was an opt out before the debates, long before. How many politicians do we have who listen to the public and do what they want? Not many. Perry is one who listens and does what we want.

You’re dodging the issue as poorly as Perry did. Even the Gardisil nonsense isn’t as bad as his demonstrated coddling of illegal immigrants. There was no indication given in the debate that he was serious about locking down the border. I figure only about half of the candidates are, so it’s not like he’s alone on that one.
I am not dodging anything. Just because he doesn’t think a physical fence is the answer doesn’t mean he doesn’t want border security. His words were “a 30’ fence will make the illegal get a 35’ ladder”. I happen to believe that is true. He has stated we need something better than an obstacle to climb over or tunnel under. I think you are tuning into dem talking points.
Sure you are. Why didn’t he wait until the legislature was in session? What was the rush? Why was there an opt-out when a voluntary opt-in would’ve sufficed?
First rule of defense—deny access. Second rule—always provide overwatch. He’s willing to do #2, but not #1. They work together; individually they’re easily defeated.
Texas legislature is only in session every other year maybe that had something to do with his timing. I explained to you that the “mandate” had to be in the wording to get the state to pay for it. He has explained he was more worried about the low income girls than the high income because if their parents had to pay they would not have gotten the protection. I think your mind is made up and I sure don’t have the energy to change it. I promise to cast my vote for the winner of the Republican primary I earnestly ask you to do the same.
