On Immigration, Rick Perry Takes Heat for Texas DREAM Act
Los Angeles Times ^ | Sept. 12, 2011

Perry, who signed a Texas version of the DREAM Act (which allows young people in the country illegally to pay in-state tuition at public colleges and universities) drew several rounds of boos when he defended this policy.

After the debate, on Greta's Fox program both Bachmann and Palin hammered Perry for having a chief of staff who was a lobbyist for Merck pharmaceutical which provided the mandated medicine to young girls for cervical cancer prevention.

Yeah, and they were both wrong and are getting their butts kicked for it also.

The Gardasil issue is not an issue at all. Perry called it a mistake and he’s entitled to make a mistake from time to time. There is no perfect politician and there is no perfect conservative. Bachmann’s reaction in the debate last night was way over the top. Palin’s support of Bachmann reaction was piling on, imo.

The Texas Dream Act is a problem for Perry. Perry not supporting a fence along the entire border is a much bigger problem.

Obama getting a second term is reaches critical mass.

If it remains Romney v Perry, I will not be voting for Willard.

Perry’s stance on immigration is troubling and should be questioned. I have my own concerns with what his plans would be as President regarding immigration. Of course, as governor for 11 years in a border state, I’m guessing his position on it is a bit more realistic than the “build a fence” nonsense.

Plus, this Gardisil “pay-for-play” silliness is nothing but a distraction.

I have a strong feeling you were against the mandated vaccine before you were for it. Half of the conservatives on this site are willing to compromise their principles because they believe that the rodeo clown is the great white hope.
Rick is an empty suit and the MSM will tear him up if he wins the nomination.

Perry is a no-go for me. I live in CA and have first hand knowledge and experience concerning the damage to this country by the invasion of illegals.

Not going to knowingly put anybody in the WH who does anything to support, or reward, the invading hordes.

Rush and Levin like Perry but they too are having trouble with his being just totally wrong on the illegal alien invasion issue. Especially his giving illegal (what part of "illegal" does the Gov fail to understand?) aliens privileges supposedly reserved for Texans.
Rush advises Perry to correct this serious problem that could scuttle his chances now because if he back-tracks later it would make him seem an insincere opportunist.

If the conservative movement can’t find a conservative other than a liberal republican that pretends to be a conservative as long as we make excuses for him/her, then we are over.

You all whoop it all up. We are all hat and no cattle.

I suspect on primary election day, you will be writing in:

None of the above

You guys make good points. We don’t need another Texas waffler on illegal immigration in the form of a Bush-lite. That Comprehensive Immigration (a/k/a amnesty) bill eroded the conservative base and helped give us Obama.

Agreed...although I don't trust or believe any of the candidates will do the right thing on illegal immigration. There will be a faux attempt at securing the border...and a decree from all the governors of the border states that their state is "secure" (after some efforts to build fences in some areas and other "technological" monitoring). After that is done, amnesty will be granted under the guise that the border is now secure and we won't have to go thru the charade again (similar to 1986). The fix is in, and the Republicans have little stomach to deal with things because they fear the so-called hispanic vote.

Also, like McCain and Lindsey Graham,Perry called everyone who wants the immigration laws strictly enforced a racist.

His “because you don't like the sound of his name” is the race card played as well or better than the most liberal Democrat.

Absolutely! We need a candidate who has the guts to face and deal with the harsh reality all citizen taxpayers are facing: bankrupt public school districts, insolvent hospitals, ever-rising costs for prison incarceration and bilingualism, and the human and fiscal ravages of the drug cartel. We don’t need someone like Perry who panders to Hispanic illegal lobby for votes.

Of course I was never FOR the mandated vaccine. I went with my daughter in 2003 (four years before Gardasil was approved) to pick up the papers that allowed her, thanks to Rick Perry’s legislation, to OPT OUT of ANY immunizations she deemed dangerous to her her children. It was a one time opt out, you pick up the papers, signed them and turned them into the school. That way SHE gets to decide what needles are stuck in her children.

She even took the opt out forms to the hospital with her when the next two were born to make sure they checked with her before they stuck needles in her newborns so she could make sure her pediatrician checked them out to be sure they weren’t experiencing any condition that might excerbate with a newborn vaccination.

Because that was the law in 2003, she doesn’t ever have to fill out anymore opt out/out in forms, and she has Rick Perry to thank for that one time opt out also. Since the legislature, after the Gardasil flopaloozalama, opened up the education statutes in 2007, krapped on them, and screwed them all up, NOW parents wanting the opt out/opt in choices have to get a buttload of papers, from the state, not the school, get a doctor’s signature, pay to have their own signatures notarized and send the forms back to the state, not the school, EVERY TWO YEARS!

I don’t have anything against rodeo clowns. One of my best friends, Leon Coffee, is one of the greatest rodeo clowns on the circuit. Finest man you want to know as well as a great athlete. I’d even trust him leading this country before I would Obama.

I guess it’s a good thing that SOME of us, who bother to participate in local county issues dealt with thru the state, that have worked with Governor Perry’s Office for years, know that he too is a good man.

I certainly understand how some pisswad do nothing couch pototato can sit in their chairs and believe all the lies and propaganda put out by the democrats and tote their bucket of horse manure for them.

You ought get up, get around, get to working with your politicians, find out who they really are so you can get rid of some of that paranoia and angst.

Because of some folks going all wobbly on the fence issue many of us have decided that IT MUST BE A VERY TALL WALL ~ all you do with your criticism is up the anti.

Nicely said RowdyFFC, but your words will fall on the deaf ears of the anti-Perry squad.

“On Immigration, Rick Perry Takes Heat for Texas DREAM Act”

Good. Unless and until he makes an abject apology for his open-border stances and repents of them, he should be booed off any stage he gets on (except, of course, the La Raza stage).

They all make mistakes but this was an Obama-scale mistake: ignore the state legislature, appear to be acting on behalf of a staff lobbyist, and give a phony opt-out instead of an opt-in, as Bachmann suggested.

At this time I don't trust any of the candidates either. I am waiting to see if this is all there is.

In the mean time, just prepping in case it is.
