More on Perry's HPV vaccination scandal (opinion)
Natural News ^ | Mike Adams

Posted on 09/14/2011 10:33:27 AM PDT by Scythian

But the story gets even more interesting when you start connecting the dots. A key Merck lobbyist, a man named Mike Toomey, actually served as the governor's chief of staff. In other words, a former top power person for the governor now works for Merck, the drug company that gave money to the campaign of the governor who essentially used dictatorial power to mandate, without any public debate whatsoever, the mass vaccination of young girls with a drug that will earn tens of millions of dollars in profits for Merck. Sound suspicious? It should.

The "dirty money connection" seems obvious to many readers who have been following this story, including one who posted, "Only a man, Rick Perry especially, would sign an executive order, bypassing legislation, to inject girls with chemicals made by one of his contributors even though most parents have never seen sufficient information about this vaccine.

My opinion:

Rick Perry didn't handle this terribly well. He admits that himself. I don't like it, but it doesn't make me think that he is a terrible person. I'm still basically neutral on him, and if he were the candidate I would certainly vote for him.

Michelle Bachmann probably made too much of this. I think it is an issue worth raising, but I think she bumbled it a bit and I think she is now suffering more than Perry is when the Gardasil issue is discussed. I still like Bachmann and would definitely vote for her.

Overall, I think a lot of people who don't like conservative women are blowing this out of proportion and using this topic as a way to push Bachmann off the stage. I'm not happy about that.

Yeah, it would be much easier if everyone would concentrate on optouts or legislature overrides rather than the meat of the matter which is the incestuous relationship between Perry and Merck.

Wait until the ETF stuff starts to get bigger. You guys are really going to get dizzy from the spinning.

I don't like his forcing the vaccines on kids (and he has admitted it was a mistake).

I also don't like the ‘crony capitalism’ aspect of the story. However, I long ago gave up on politicians being pure as the driven snow.

Politics is a dirty business and I understand that anyone in this arena will not remain clean.

Doesn’t matter. Perry is going to be bludgeoned to death with the sound bite of that response he gave to Michele Bachmann. It is going to make life real, real interesting if he is the nominee. “So how much WOULD it take to buy you, Governor?”

Ditto...(though I am leaning a bit in his direction rather than being completely neutral).

(I KNOW that I don’t want Romney.)

Perhaps it’s because that it is their female daughters being affected. Tell me how many men will have a vasectomy(10 minute simple procedure) as opposed to making their wives have a rather invasive tubal ligation when a couple feels they want no more children. If it were male children having this vaccine mandated, I’d bet there would me much more made of the situation.

I agree and I don’t think Bachmann should’ve used this as a way to try and knock Perry out.

Personally I think Bachmann never did have a chance and it will be between Perry and Romney. I know this won’t make a lot of people happy but I do think that is the case.

So all Bachmann is doing is causing a scandal for the Republicans and in this election it’s the last thing we need. I don’t like that sort of politics and I think she should run on her own merit not mud slinging tactics.

I hope Perry keeps up his efforts to be a strait talker and that Newt give the others a view of how answer the media’s stupid gotcha questions - then maybe someone will be a GREAT candidate. I also am no Perry fan and think over time he will get a type of exposure that will, knock him out and leave a good (or better)person to win and run against Obambi.

“Give it up. Ain’t going no where....”

Not quite...in the year when people get to vote on being forced into ObamaCare..is suspect it has far more traction than most can imagine...and it also reveals that fundamentally, Perry is a statist...and that he has a price-

-neither of which is particularly motivating for the right-

-nor reassuring that his administration will be sufficiently different from the preceding 30 years RinoCracy to provide the foundational changes required to reestablish DC as Flyover Country’s servant.

And rain that sh!+ down on the rest of us.

First of all, you must remember that just because something might have happened that doesn't mean it had to happen, or that it did happen.

Secondly, not all employees of corporations are prepared to lie to you.

Thirdly, news media types who make a living by inventing stories probably invented the one you were just reading.

The only thing suspicious about Ricardo Perrido is that he thought it was good to serve for 12 years as Texas governor.

My disputes with the guy involve his lamebrain and nationally counterproductive policies. For most topend politicians those policies are concocted by their closest advisors ~ for which reason we should beware of Perry's old cronies and donors should he become President. None of those people should be allowed anywhere near the levers of power.

It’s a shame he didn’t have time to explain why he did what he did, though he did have sense to admit the approach wasn’t the right one.

Basically the reason the inoculation was made to be mandatory with an opt out was insurance reasons.

If the vaccination was purely optional, the insurance companies could opt not to cover it, and since it’s a $300 dollar shot, most would not bother. However as long as it was a mandatory inoculation, they had to cover it, and then parents could opt out.

Perry was gaming the system against the insurance companies to try to help with cancer prevention. Granted, an executive order isn’t a great way to do things, but it’s not like the $2000 Merk donation is even noticeable on someone who can raise money like Perry.

I mean you can either assume he is going to notice a donation which doesn’t make the 0.1% mark, or you can assume he was trying to help with cancer prevention.

One would have to be pretty stupid to do something like this for a piddling donation. I don’t think Perry is stupid.

And yet, this is a common occurrence amongst Democrats. Chicago and cronyism is the modus operandi for the current administration.

I doubt that I could vote for Perry, but this is sure showing that the WH is scared of his potential.

I have no interest in bashing Perry and I will not disagree with what you posted.

My position is that some folks are trying too hard to beat up Rick Perry over this issue.
My position is also that some folks are trying too hard to beat up Michelle Bachmann over this issue.

If one group says, "Oh, but I'm right! That other canddiate is scum! Just look at the facts!!" then I think they are using a small issue to sabotage a worthwhile Republican candidate. Why shoudl Republicans do the work of the media?

More nonsense. I notice everyone conspicuously avoids seeking the opinion of the medical community on this. The real issue here is that this vaccination is to prevent a sexually transmitted disease and there are a bunch of parents that simply refuse to admit the possibility that their little darling might need it.

It's a shame Perry, or apparently anyone around him, couldn't see this as a potential blast from the past and have some safe, perfectly logical explanation all set down and memorized.

You explaining it now just makes me think Perry is stupid.

“This guy guest hosts on Alex Jones. He’s a loony anti-vaccine alternative medicine pushing kook.”

You want to know how to let America decline and fall through a second Obama term?

LISTEN TO THE NUTCASES.

Obama will LOSE unless he can convince Anerica that the GOP candidate is a loon. that is what they keep trying wrt Tea party. Whoever we nominate will get the treatment.

IMHO, Bachmann just made herself unelectable with her stupid comment about a vaccination causing mental retardation. She’s not a doctor, but she does have foot-n-mouth disease.

This anti-vaccine loon mis-stated multiple aspects of this story in one sentence (the ‘no public discussion’ part is laughable; there was PLENTY)

Loony anti-vaccine nutcases, loony 911 truthers, loony conspiracy Bilderbergers ... all cut from the same Alex Jones-y believe-anything-conspiratorial cloth.

LISTEN TO THEM and put the nutcase stuff forward ... and Obama wins.
