Gerald Celente: “Things Are Going to Get Much Worse…Society Is Breaking Down”
Daily Ticker/Yahoo Finance ^ | 9/15/11 | Aaron Task

Posted on 09/15/2011 11:17:20 AM PDT by Kartographer

"Things are going to get much worse," Celente says. "Society is breaking down on every level: socially, economically, politically and it's not just the U.S. It's worldwide."

Celente believes the globe is following a similar path to what occurred after the 1929 crash: Severe economic contraction, followed by currency wars, trade wars and, ultimately, armed conflict.

Currency wars have already started he said, citing the recent decision by the Swiss National Bank to peg the Swiss franc to the euro. "Trade wars are next and then real wars, unfortunately," Celente predicts.

Unlike the 1930s and 1940s, The Trends Journal publisher believes major nations will avoid direct conflict "because they can annihilate each other."

The bad news is he expects more asymmetrical warfare, including the use of weapons of mass destruction such as bio-terrorism and "suitcase nukes."

When I would lurk on the economic threads here there was a guy I used to see that would post an opinion extremely close to the above. I haven’t seen him for a while though. I wonder if he was Gerald. 8-P

As long as it doesn't directly effect me or mine I believe in letting a person do what they think is right. I also believe in that this is true:

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.

Underestimation can be fatal.”

That's why I am preparing and stocking up.

It’s as if the collective human psyche expects some type of global calamity.

so, you think things are going to get better? that society isn’t breaking down? Personally, I believe that we’re all walking down a path that leads straight to hell and there’s really no way to turn around. We will have to go through hell to get out of hell.

The worse the news gets, the more I focus on my homestead.

Today I took cuttings from each of the tomato varieties in the garden, and planted them inside. I’ve found I have better luck growing from cuttings than from seed, and tomato cuttings root at the drop of a hat. They won’t bear fruit indoors because the light is wrong, but they will provide nice long vines to take cuttings from next spring. Wish I could do that with all my plants but I don’t have room.

There has never been a society as complex as what we have now, so it’s impossible to even begin to measure the stages leading to complete collapse.

I say the guy has no clue.

Exactly. My father said, before he died and when I was young, when money is scarce around the world and people are out of work, our government takes too much control......the only answer is war. It seems the older I get, the smarter my father really was.

wrong FRiend George Santayana goes:"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Churchill's version is most likely based on Santayana's, but they are not the same.

Some of what Beck says is off the mark. Lots of it isn’t.
But he still called a lot of what is happening before it happened. He sure has been right about the “Arab Spring”.

I can only watch so much of him. He scares me too much. I have to say though, he got me to stock up. I’m so glad I have more than a few cans of coffee!

The first sign will be when a municipality declares insolvency, asks the state to bail them out, and the state refuses to because it can’t.

It’s dominoes after that.

In a real war one party or the other stands to gain something of real and substantial value (land, resources, slave labor, etc.)

I don’t see what a suitcase nuke or a bio terror attack on someone else would do to shore-up your sagging economy.

The idea there is to destroy someone else's economy. In a collapsing world, everything becomes relative.

No, but you forget that there are plenty of people in this world who would do it anyway. I am reminded of this quote from the movie 'The Dark Knight':

"Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

There has never been a society as complex as what we have now, so it’s impossible to even begin to measure the stages leading to complete collapse.

We don't need to measure them theoretically. We can read about them in the news, every day. It's not "maybe", it's occurring now.

well, his remarks about direct voting by computer show that he doesn’t really think things through. you could never have a clean vote by internet, or anything that holds public confidence. to be fair, i was thinking about his premises, but he losrt me there, adn the more I read thereafter, the more it seemed that he equates technology with utopia.

For most of us on FR; this is not "Breaking News".

It's been happening since the New Deal, and the welfare mentality started.
