Price Hike Sends Netflix's Stock Downward

In wake of new prices that force some customers to pay more, greater numbers of people are canceling their Netflix subscriptions than the company expected.

The company on Thursday morning revised downward, incrementally, its subscriber estimates for the quarter of the year that ends in two weeks. It did not change its financial guidance for the quarter. Still, its stock dropped almost 15 percent in heavy trading when the market opened Thursday.

I’ve got Netflix, but I probably only watch one movie per month, and even then it’s rare that they have movies I want to watch. Of the 50 movies I’ve tried to find, they’ve had about 5 or 6 of them available. Pretty pathetic.

$8/Mo is too much! I’ll probably cancel.

We cancelled our account, but it had less to do with the price change and more to do with the jerk-off tone of the email they sent to inform us of the change. I feel if you are going to raise prices or change terms, you should at least pretend that you care about your customers when you tell them. Instead, we got a terse, arrogant email about it. So we dumped them.

They sent me a please come back email the other day, but with no incentive to do so, so they clearly still aren't getting the message. Good riddance. Their stream content stinks, and their DVD service had slowed dramatically. We got Apple TV and use Redbox. No regrets.

I kept the streaming, dropped the dvd with the increase. Netflix came out a winner on my account.

I wish they had a better selection of streaming movies, but it is still by far the best selection.

I’m Hulu Plus and Netflix, no cable, almost no DVD rental. About $16 month for video entertainment. It’s more than enough for the time I have and I think a decent budget.

We canceled everything but streaming. We use RedBox for new releases. Fortunately we like older movies, so haven’t had any problems there. If netflix raises the price on just the streaming we are done.

I've been noticing over the last few weeks that DVD's that used to arrive back to netflix the next day are now taking 2-4 days to arrive. So the throttling is back

I still have one month left to go on a gift card, but come Oct 31st, I will be cancelling.

Ridiculous for the price jump, but for me, it's now the throttling --- so stupid.

I dropped the mail part and now pay less for just the streaming than I did before.

Dumb move because I had already pretty much seen every movie on DVD they had that I was interested in and hardly ever ordered DVD’s anymore.

Slightly confused here. If one is using the 1 DVD at a time with no streaming, is there a rate increase?

We are happy with Netflix, even with the price increase, we have the one at a time program and streaming.

We have it timed so that we have a movie night on Wednesdays and Sundays. Someone complained about turn around time. The one time they did not have my choice in the local distribution center, they sent the next selection on my list as well as the one I wanted from the remote center.

We used to buy a movie a week for our Sunday night movies on average $20 each or about $80 a month. We have not bought a DVD in several years so we have saved way more than the increase is going to cost.

As I am working on the computer I have a netflix program running on my computer.

Any time I have had a problem they were quick to solve it.

I still recommend netflix to anyone that ask about it.

I am rare in that I have kept both. I’m not happy about the price increase, but only added Netflix in February and I have a large amount of item both in my DVD queue and saved for streaming still to watch. Plus my kids watch a lot of stuff on streaming.

However, I will keep my options open if something better comes along.

There are thousands of HD TV shows, documentaries and old films on Youtube. Get the DownloadHelper plugin and as soon as you start downloading you can close the Youtube window and drag and drop the downloading video from where it is being saved or from the download pop up box and onto VLC media player. VLC will play the file as it downloads. Quality is really good! And you end up with a local copy of the video.
