(CNSNews.com) -- Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced Wednesday that USDA is handing out $14.7 million in taxpayer money to community groups in rural areas to lend or give to rural businesses -- including to rural grocery stores.
The USDA chief Wednesday announced 69 new spending projects under the Rural Business Enterprise Grants/Rural Economic Area Partnerships program (RBEG) and the Intermediate Re-lending Program (IRP).

Will it never end?
Now Barry is going into the grocery business too.
Will Moochelle let them stock all the unhealthy stuff that the people demand in the neighborhoods where these stores are located?
Ah, yes . . . the Dept of Agric . . . a rather unusual department that has more bureaucrats working in it than there are farmers in the U.S.
How do you explain that?
This may be the result of that “food desert” study - however the input data they used was inaccurate so the results are inaccurate.
But hey, if there’s not enough demand in a rural area to support a brick-and-mortar grocery store, build one anyway.
I thought Michelle wanted people to have gardens and farmers’ markets. I guess not.
Just until Sunday, January 20, 2013
Don’t they already sufficiently do this with ‘Food Stamp’ cards?
Time to watch and see where our money goes, and compare it with who wrote big checks to the democrats.....
And, of course, now that they have accepted government funding, there are certain terms and conditions that must be satisfied...
will these stores be allowed to sell french fries?
This is insane. Close the Department of Agriculture. Just close it.
Yes, but it’s not “socialism.” Obama is a staunch capitalist, dontchya know.
Why can’t Michelle just get a job at McDonald’s and leave the rest of us alone.
They spread their insideous evil into all walks of life. You take it? They own you.
Can't blame 'em for trying to do a good thing why they actually try for that goal.
But, we can blame 'em for being stupid commies.
Actually DOING something is so .. beneath her; it’s what the little people should do ...
Spend, spend, spend. The justification for any bureaucratic organization.
Organized by act of congress/president
increase budget each year, cuts not allowed
spread wings and increase scope of bureaucracy
etc, etc, etc.
Democrats are just too stupid to be allowed to reproduce. /semi-sarc
Funny, if you rearrange the letters in the acronyms for these boondogles, you get BEGR and RIP.
The FAA has more employees than there are airplanes too. Any wonder why we're so effd up?
Was this spending program passed by Demos while they had control? Sounds illegal to me.
