No apologies: Bachmann defends HPV remarks
CBS "News" ^ | 15 Sep 2011 | Sarah Huisenga

Michele Bachmann is on the defensive about comments she made earlier this week suggesting that a vaccine against a virus linked to cervical cancer poses a danger to young girls.

"During the debate, I didn't make any statements that would indicate that I'm a doctor, I'm a scientist or that I'm making any conclusions about the drug one way or another," the GOP presidential hopeful told reporters here who questioned her about the story she told suggesting that the vaccine had caused mental retardation. Asked whether she would apologize for comments that outraged medical experts say will discourage parents from getting their children immunized, Bachmann said: "Oh, I'm not going to answer that."

During the Republican debate Bachmann attacked her rival Rick Perry for mandating vaccinations against the human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) for Texas school girls - a decision that the Texas legislature later overruled.

"To have innocent little 12-year-old girls be forced to have a government injection through an executive order is just flat out wrong," she said during the debate.

After the debate, Bachmann took her critique a step further, describing in several television interviews how a tearful mother had approached her after the debate saying that her daughter "suffered mental retardation" as a result of the vaccine.

This is illustrative of a principle I’ve always tried to follow when considering candidates for political offices. Anyone can “say the right things.” Anyone can even say the right things and have a track record of doing the right things. But ultimately, a person put into political office has to be able to govern, and do it both wisely, effectively and with great discretion. That’s a consideration that has to be thrown into the mix when choosing a candidate to support.

I like her and respect her too. I also will vote for anyone who gets the nomination, except for Ron Paul, but I don’t think that will be an issue.

I also tend to think she hurt herself. She was doing a lot better when she was attacking Obama as opposed to attacking the other GOP candidates.

Much as I hate to say it, it does seem like she talks fist and thinks second from time to time.

Nonetheless, if she gets the nod, she gets my vote.

What facts are those?

“perhaps she should get her facts straight or else close that anus she calls a mouth.”

You could lead by example.

This all is fine, but doesn’t demonstrate a link between Gardasil and mental retardation (or autism, either, for that matter).

A Libertarian Doctor called into a talkshow regarding an incident where kids who refused to get vaccinated were not permitted to go to school. The whole deal with vaccinations is that the effectiveness of vaccination is dependent on other people getting shots.

The only reason people complain about the HPV vaccine is that people consider this a state licence to fornicate. This, of course, is ridiculous. The State is trying to headoff a wave of healthcare cost of treating cases of cancer in populations who cannot afford cancer treatment.

It is cheaper to pay $35 per vaccine than it is to pay hundred of thousands of dollars in healthcare cost per person. If you were the State of Texas what would you bet on - $35 per person or $500,000 per person?

She does great in the debates and swings the focus back to her campaign only to head out to crazy town and say Gardalsil causes Retardation. This is not going to do. Citing no name victims on totally bogus claims like this is something the Leftists do. She needs to tighten up her message and stop the baseless claims if she thinks that she is going up against the Rat machine.

Rick Santorum got it right.

I think we need to hear what Governor Perry’s saying. He’s saying that his policy was right. He believes that what he did was right. He thinks he went about it the wrong way.

I believe your policy is wrong. Why — ladies and gentlemen, why do we inoculate people with vaccines in public schools? Because we’re afraid of those diseases being communicable between people at school. And therefore, to protect the rest of the people at school, we have vaccinations to protect those children.

Unless Texas has a very progressive way of communicating diseases in their school by way of their curriculum, then there is no government purpose served for having little girls inoculated at the force and compulsion of the government. This is big government run amok. It is bad policy, and it should not have been done

Doubling down on stupid.

A truly ‘not ready for prime time’ player.

What an embarrassment.

Stick a fork in her, she’s done.
____________________________________________________________She was trying to take-out Rick Perry because he has cut into her poll numbers drastically. She came across a little “witchy” in the Debate and her comments after the Debate demonstrate desperation on her part. BTW, this is not the first time she’s put her foot in her mouth.

I’m with you.

She didn’t cave to the pressure to be PC.

That’s a good thing. She’s got more .... um... backbone than many other politicians.

Can I get in on that action? Pharmacy school is expensive.

You bet! There's plenty of Merck money to go around!

As are you with your radical liberal behavior.

Why get down in the gutter like them and insult conservative candidates? Why do people like you relish attacking conservatives so much? It doesn’t help the conservative movement. Its petty and immature.

The communists don’t need to beat the conservative movement to win. All they have to do is throw a few comments out and people like you will happily tear conservative candidates to shreds.

Frankly I actually like to see that at least one candidate in the race has the moral courage to stand by what she says.

Ron Paul stands by his statements that the US is the reason for 911. Are you excited by his standing on principal even though it is a wildly incorrect and dangerous theory?

Why is she not allowed to speak of RISK?

PerryCARE I proposed the use of children as Mandated
Lab rats for a few campaign dollars (direct and indirect).

Were the children informed of the risk?

It doesen't? Have you seen the followup data on the phenomenon of test subjects but not controls getting sudden intense headaches?

Don't you have the slightest curiosity what thats about? Even Merck prefaces their report by stating that certain highly sensitive people shouldn't receive the vaccine.

So, what happened to those highly sensitive people ~ to the degree Merck was willing to abandon them to their fate ~ undoubtedly horrid if they engage in sex without ever having had the vaccine?

Think about what Merck's study managers saw and why they would be willing to give up the protective advantage? Just how much cerebral blowout happened?

Frankly, given Merck's history with anesthesia I think we need to know first!
