As the nation remembers the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001, experts are warning that the U.S. effectively is defenseless against an electro-magnetic pulse attack or a far less expensive radio frequency attack on the nation's critical military and civilian electric and electronic infrastructure, according to Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.
Two experts one a communications systems engineer involved in classified programs who works on EMP vulnerabilities and the other a U.S. Defense Department analyst knowledgeable of their impact said that the nation's sensitive telecommunications and the electronic systems embedded in its financial and banking institutions can be "fried" by a "turn of the switch."
The result could be a chaos that could allow terrorists to attack virtually at will.
They both pointed out that relatively cheap over-the-counter technology embedded not only in sensitive U.S. military equipment but also civilian electronic systems has not been protected from such attacks, a development that could create complete panic throughout the U.S. if they were subject either to an EMP or RF attack.

I know, right? Wasn’t Newt talking about this years ago?
without the electronics deeply embedded in systems to provide food, goods, products, fuel and finances, the parts of the nation hit effectively could be returned to an agricultural age, with citizens depending on local production for food and fuel for heat and transportation.
Great. America becomes Afghanistan overnight.
An EMP attack would be suicidal to whomever launched it. I would nuke the living sh*t out of the country that initiated it.
pat robertson’s had this on 700 club off and on.
What’s that thing?
U.S. essentially defenseless from stunning new weapon: socialist voters trained by socialist teachers and indoctrinated by socialist ABCNNBCBS.
U.S. essentially defenseless from stunning old weapon: Liberal voters trained by liberal teachers and indoctrinated by liberal news media.
I thought there was a relatively cheap $1.78 fix to protect the electrical grid from emps, but nobody was interested. The gizmo that cost $1.78 went on transformers, IIRC..
I know somebody else here will remember it.
You would, but the current pResident wouldn’t.
He has to authorize any nuclear attack, and he wouldn’t.
Ping
Our SSBN fleet will flatten anyone who dares to fire a missile and detonate a nuke over the USA. This threat is mostly a joke to our forces.
Where’s the “Not this Shit again” guy? This gets reposted at a minimum of monthly.
This was done during the end of the Clinton era.
You’ve been around here since 98 and you haven’t seen a beeber set on “stune” yet? That’s series.
Heck, Obama is probably trying to get kim jong il on the phone to beg him to test North Korea’s emp on the US, just so the mocked one can take down #attackwatch on twitter.
Let me know how this turns out, I’ll be in the shower.
Was that before of after he said it was ok to divorce one’s spouse if s/he forgot where s/he put the car keys?
The Deep Blue Democrat Cesspool Cities are defenseless. The rest of us will do ok.
“One Second After”
Youve been around here since 98 and you havent seen a beeber set on stune yet? Thats series.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Youve been around here since 01 and you don’t know al baby knows better than anyone what that is and that he was sarcastic? Thats series.
Unless you were sarcastic too.
All your bandwidths are belong to uth.
“An EMP attack would be suicidal to whomever launched it. I would nuke the living sh*t out of the country that initiated it.”
Presuming the EMP didn’t knock out our retaliatory capability. Under Reagan, I was confident of that. After eight years of Beelzebubba and three hundred years of Barry Sowetoro, not so much.
It does not take a nuke to create an EMP weapon.
Nuke all the likely suspects! At that stage of things it won't matter what anyone else thinks.
The problem with an EMP attack against the United States is the domino effect it would have for the world economy. As the U.S. economy flushed down the drain, there would be an economic void that would take everyone with it. Mass nations would die off from starvation and disease as the U.S. food products failed to make it to market. The living would not know how to deal with all the dead.
As I understand it, the proposed “smart-grid” would essentially weaken our power-transmission and make us more susceptible to EMP-weapons.
Great. America becomes Afghanistan overnight.
Bullshit. We were nothing like Afghanistan before we had near universal electricity. And ate only locally produced food.
The rise of the factory farm and the like is a recent development.
Are you forgetting that that is exactly how the mooslimes like it?
It’s a beeber, al baby can tell you all about it. He was stuned the first time he encountered one...
EMP’s have been known about since the early 50’s the problem is back in the 50’s electronics were vacuum tubes NOT computer microprocessors/ IC chips that are damaged by static electricity. However we are not defending against this form of attack at this time.
None of our everyday consumer products are hardened against EMPs. So yeah, we are screwed if that kind of attack happens. I’m not sure if even the military is totally protected against it.
Just think Obama wants to basically disarm us by cutting the military, abandoning space and reducing our nuclear defense.
WTF people, he needs to go....sooner than later
I doubt that it would. Because an EMP would not effect anything under the sea, and remember we have a lots of nasty stuff lurking in the briny deep.
Take your old electronics, computers, etc. and wrap them in several layers of aluminum foil alternating with a non-conductor (cardboard).
Best place to store them is in a metal trash can with a metal lid.
They will be quite valuable if there is an EMP or CME problem.
I recommend that you read the 208 page, 7 MB download report from Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack. The report was done during the Bush years, so I doubt that any of the very reasonable and prudent recommendations were put into effect. Maybe I am wrong. I hope so.
Read the whole report. It is fascinating, and you will learn a lot about EMP and its effects.
As a side note, I have visited the facility where they tested items for vulnerability to EMP. One of my colleagues collects data there.
Assuming our missiles could launch and our bombers get off the ground.
Interesting thought.
“Take your old electronics, computers, etc. and wrap them in several layers of aluminum foil alternating with a non-conductor (cardboard).
Um. What will happen when we plug them in? Anything?
That presumes that we knew who launched it. It could be done from a sea launch platform by deniable assets. Do you think our current President would launch retaliation on a hunch?
For all who want a good knowledge of the EMP threat, here is a good site:
I suggest all who are interested to download the 208 page 7 mb report. It has some fascinating information in it. They tested quite a few items. All cars that they tested, that were turned off during the EMP, started afterward. About 90% of those who were running when the EMP hit, once they were powered down, started up again.
We also have many vulnerabilities.
I visited the facility where the testing was done. I have a colleague that collects data there.
Best info I have seen. Thank you! Lots of reading to do now...
As long as you can get electricity they should work just fine.
I got the aluminum foil advice from an EE who studied EMP and how to protect against it.
I will grow poppies and start my own weirdbeard religion.
“As long as you can get electricity they should work just fine.”
Did he tell you how the power grid was supposed to survive an attack?
A great read. Real page turner and chilling to consider the after effects of an EMP.
