France herds Muslim faithful off streets after prayer ban

World Sep. 17, 2011 - 07:15AM JST ( 13 )

PARIS —

A ban on praying in French streets came into effect on Friday, with thousands of the nation’s Muslim faithful being moved to temporary alternative spaces for their day of prayer.

From Paris to Marseille, Friday’s midday prayers will be led from disused barracks or other temporary buildings, after the question of Islam’s visibility became a political issue under right-wing President Nicolas Sarkozy.

France, home to Europe’s largest Muslim population, this year banned the face-covering burqa and earlier this week Interior Minister Claude Gueant warned that “from September 16 there will be no more prayers in the street.”

“If anyone happens to be recalcitrant we will put an end to it,” Gueant said, suggesting police could be brought in.

“Prayers in the street are unacceptable, a direct attack on the principle of secularism,” Gueant told AFP last month, citing the government’s defense of the republic’s secular values as reason for the new policies.

Pretty sad when France has more balls and more guts than America.

Good for France but oh man this is gonna get ugly. But it needs to come to a head. If the Europeans don’t stand up for their respective cultures they won’t have any culture but that of the Muslims.

Would not wish to own a car in France after this. They will be burning in the streets.

GOOD FOR THEM.
I’ve been to France a few times and they understand the problems from North Africa.
Shame this clown and his puppets do not.

Dittos to what you said.

The only people they run off the streets in this country are Christians. Muzzies? No problemo.

This has just begun. All across the Western world. Deporting muzzies will become a political necessity. Mark my words.

the government’s defense of the republic’s secular values

I find the rationale chilling, since it would apply equally to Christianity and evokes principles behind the Reign of Terror.

The best solution is to distinguish between a religion and a cult, but no civil society has done that.

Secularism as a philosophical principle is a pretty weak reed upon which to lean when facing a demonically energized group. An unabashedly Christian society would fare better.

I’ll believe it when I see it, and that should be not thousands, but tens of thousands.

To be fair, if Muslims mobbed public streets in the USA to carry on their daily prayers in huge numbers, they would be told to move along, as would practitioners of other faiths in an analogous situation. This isn’t talking about onesy-twosy impromptu prayers, or even protest prayers such as at an abortion facility. This is talking about streets packed with 4000 Moose at a time, five times a day. It would be an obstruction to traffic.

At this time, Islam is protected because liberals hold global power. That time is about over thanks to socialism collapsing on itself. Soon, the center and right will hold the political marbles on a global basis and so Islam will have no other choice than going Jihadi on an equally broad scale.

Non Jihadi Muslims will finally be forced to either get with the program or get back to the sandbox because there will be no coexsistance with Islam.

Notice how quickly, once the ‘ball’ got rolling, how fast Obama support is tanking from the left? Same will happen with the Muzzies. Once a strong enough person stands up and leads fearlessly, many on the right/center will quickly rally to the cause. And like Obama support, support for islam will vanish VERY rapidly.

The left is nothing but a small camp with a loud voice. Take that voice and the power it wields goes away with it.

“Prayers in the street are unacceptable, a direct attack on the principle of secularism,”

Wait, secularism has principles?

Islam and Secularism -- may they destroy each other.

Did Bill Handel do a Muzzy stampede traffic report there like he did for the Hajj?

“On January 12, 2006, Handel joked that pilgrims should hire traffic reporters to reduce the possibility of deadly incidents during the Hajj. The Council on American-Islamic Relations demanded an apology. Handel offered to apologize on the condition that CAIR would denounce terrorism, agree that Israel is a sovereign country, and claim it does not have ties with terrorists. CAIR did not take him up on his offer. Handel refused to apologize to CAIR, but did apologize to the actual victims of the Hajj stampede.”
