Krauthammer: Playing 'Medi-scare' the 'only hope' for Democrats (Video)

Last May, the Democratic Party ran a TV ad with the man that looked similar to Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan pushing an elderly woman in a wheelchair off a cliff. It was meant to send the message that the GOP had its sights set on cutting entitlements, a message that proved effective Democratic Rep. Kathy Hochul in the New York 26th congressional district special election later that month.

But since then, President Barack Obama has hinted at the possibility of cutting entitlements to resolve some of the debt issues the country is facing. And that according to Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer took a weapon away from the Democrats’ arsenal, which they could have used in their upset loss in New York’s 9th Congressional district special election last week.

In an appearance on this weekend’s syndicated “Inside Washington” program, Krauthammer offered that as a possible reason for the electoral loss. “There’s another dynamic here, which is interesting,” Krauthammer said. “When the Republicans lost a special election a few months ago in Buffalo – New York 26, the theme was – it was a strong one, it was right after the release of the Paul Ryan plan, the Democrats ran hard on ‘Medi-scare’ and succeeded. And Republicans who did not admit that were whistling in the wind. What’s interesting is here we are later in the game, and they tried it again in New York-9, and it did not work, in part, I think, it is because Obama at least gave indications in the debt debate that he might trim Medicare or Social Security.”

The good doctor artfully downgrades the left's strategic capabilities, as it didn't work for them in NY-09.

"I think, it is because Obama at least gave indications in the debt debate that he might trim Medicare or Social Security.”

This is one issue that I give Republicans the stupid doofus award of the centrury. In EVERY race against a Democrat, and I include State races, Republicans need to point out at least six of the following that Democrats have done, or plan to do to seniors:

1. Obamacare has death panels. In time, the panels will decide against life prolonging medication or surgeries. The senior being affected will be given a "no more treatment" decision by the panel, and death will come sooner rather than later.

2. Obamacare will take 500 BILLION dollars out of Social security.

3. Obama wants to fund his latest jobs fraud bill partly with "adjustments to Medicare." This means CUTS in Medicare. It might mean higher co-pays, or it might mean cuts to the providers. In any event, it will be adverse to seniors.

4. Obama also wants to cut the payroll tax. This will put a strain on Social Security because less money will go into it while more and more people are applying for it.

5. Hey seniors, how 'bout them COLAS. They stopped, and who stopped them? If you guess Obama and the Democrats, you get an extra helping of brown sugar on your oatmeal.

6, Hey seniors, who is the only President in the history of Social Security who openly threatened not to send the checks out? If you guess Obama, you get an extra serving of whipped cream on your chocolate pudding.

But don't let facts get in your way. After all, the Democrats are FRIENDS to seniors, and Republicans want to take away their Social Security and Medicare, and want them to eat cat food at the homeless shelters. Go ahead and keep voting for Democrats, you old senile fools.

And you Republicans just keep on ignoring a winning issue. Idiots.
