Posted on 09/17/2011 8:33:28 AM PDT by AAABEST
Reporting from Costa Mesa Michele Bachmann, struggling to regain her footing in the GOP presidential contest, Friday assailed rival Rick Perry, saying he abused his power as governor of Texas and rewarded political donors in a manner similar to President Obama.
She compared it to the federal controversy unfolding around Solyndra, a solar equipment maker that received a $535-million federal loan guarantee and which went bankrupt last month. Republicans have suggested that the guarantee was pushed by the White House to reward a major campaign donor with ties to Solyndra's biggest shareholder, a charge the Obama administration denies.
Bachmann also sought to tie Perry's effort, which was ultimately blocked by the Texas Legislature, to Obama's healthcare law in a Web video and fundraising appeal to supporters in which she dubs his efforts as "Perrycare," a riff on the "Obamacare" label that some use to describe the president's healthcare reform package.
Bachmann received credit for calling Perry out on the matter during a debate Monday night, but she quickly stumbled by claiming that the vaccine was dangerous and could cause "mental retardation." According to the CDC and physicians, even among people who have the most severe reactions, the vaccine does not cause cognitive disability.
Bachmann repeatedly refused to walk back on her remarks, saying she had heard from a mother whose daughter experienced such a reaction.

Bachmann has jumped the shark. Time for her to shut up and let the big boys campaign.
Sorry Michele, you have run out of sharks to jump. There are a couple of dolphins and a manatee you can try jumping but it doesn’t seem to be the same.
Just because she’s been dinged up as a messenger, doesn’t mean that her messenge isn’t legitimate and important.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
Thank God for this woman. She is forcing the truth out. I think she is brave. Perry needs to have all skeletons out and Michele is not afraid to do it.
And to think, I was *this* close to supporting her in the primary.
Just a heads-up, you spelled “permanent” wrong in your tagline.
Well, she had won the argument at the debate, until she kept going and made the accusations of corruption and then the “retarded” comment.
She should have quit while she was ahead (not the campaign, but this Destroy Perry crusade she’s on).
Personally, I think that she is right on the HPV issue, but it is clearly not working for her. I think good judgment would tell her to drop this issue. I'm disappointed that she is keeping it in the news.
Just a heads up, you didn’t have the courage to mention St Rick’s little Solyndra style scam.
We still respect you and will support your continued efforts in Congress, but the role of Romney's pitbull doesn't suit you well and it is beginning to cost you credibility. You are serving no purpose other than to cause division within the party at this point - I thought you were better than that. Bow out gracefully and don't delay.
Michelle Bachman received $30,000 from American Crystal Sugar.
American Crystal Sugar is in the middle of a strike by its workers.
Michelle Bachmann is a co-sponsor of: H.R.2040 - National Right-to-Work ActTo preserve and protect the free choice of individual employees to form, join, or assist labor organizations, or to refrain from such activities
If Gardasil/Merck is a quid-pro-quo, then why isn’t Right-to-Work/American Crystal Sugar a quid pro quo?
At least to you and Michelle.
Wow. The liar has now “tripled down.”
I’m liking Bachman less and less these days. I wish she’d just go away.
Details, logic - who pays attention to such matters anymore?
we donated to her campaign in 2010 but now i’m getting irritated with bachmann.
The TEF isn’t just a one person item in which that person can do as they please with the money. Use of the money must be unamiously agreed to by the Governor, Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House. This business incentive fund was created by legislation in 2003. So there are more than just the Governor involved in it’s founding, funding and operation.
Bring on the jobs.............. Keep Texas working.
She’s a proven liar.
thin-film solar cells is the future of solar if it is to work in our era
What an idiot. She was running a great campaign, and was winning - or did win - that entire debate by taking it over. Then she said an idiotic thing on Greta, and refused to back down. She has fallen to pieces ever since. It is just pathetic.
Whoa...she’s gone way too far now.
Because it doesn’t damage Perry?
Whatever it takes to justify it for yourself.
BTW why Ecodevelopment?
That's true. But this messenger lost credibility by being dishonest and/or ignorant of the facts before speaking.
Seems to be a pattern with this candidate.
I disagree on the HPV issue, at least as far as her claims that it causes retardation. That just about did it for me. You can’t take just one person’s claims, without any research, without any peer review, and pretend it’s a fact. The vaccine might have its problems—stick with those, don’t make up nonexistent problems. As a result, as far as I’m concerned, she has NO credibility on this issue at this point.
“Bow out gracefully”
Too late. I’d settle for her not letting the proverbial door smack her on the butt on the way out.
If true, this is conclusive evidence that Bachmann has severly impaired judgment and would be a horrible choice. No one in their right mind would risk a campaign for the presidency on the unsubstantiated word of one blubbering anonymous face in the crowd.
The woman who planted this discredited BS may well have been a shill for some other candidate, but I guess that never occurred to Bachmann. She needs to quietly bow out and go back to the congress.
Love them jobs. Keep them coming.
“The woman who planted this discredited BS may well have been a shill for some other candidate”
If she exists at all.
Her over the top response is somewhat damaging......
“According to the CDC and physicians, even among people who have the most severe reactions, the vaccine does not cause cognitive disability. “
I don’t know if death is considered to be a “severe reaction”, but I suppose it is technically correct to say that death is not severe cognitive disability. To be disabled I suppose one has to be alive.
She also is unstable. Get out Michele you’ve made a total ass out of yourself.
It appears to me that Michelle Bachmann tried to hang this Guardisil stone around Perry’s neck, but succeeded in hanging it around her own neck.
Seems like all she’s asked about now is this issue, whereas Perry looks to be in the clear.
Don’t know what else to say other than wow...
I do support the “all of the above” position on energy. Anything that’s viable should be used, and research should continue on those things that show real promise of viability.
It may be far into the future, but there will come a day when solar, wind, etc., will be important.
I do support research of future possibilities; I don’t support forced government subsidizing of manufacturing and marketing of any kind of research that isn’t ready for prime time; i.e., that can’t pay for itself. That’s just insane.
You mean the HelioVolt jobs jobs that don’t exist.
You clowns have all the courage of Obama voters and half the brains.
Bachmann needs to stop digging.
She’s digging herself out of serious contention for the GOP nomination.
She needs to choose her battles. This is not one that is going to help her.
What’s Perry’s excuse?
Minor shi!. Well, lets see, who's left? Find anyone that is totally clean and have no skeletons in their closet? Or what seems right at the time, now distorted, becomes a death blow. How juvenile.
This chick needs to STFU. What a screwball.
AAABEST has the CDC. You have an article from the Washington Examiner?
Perry may be Blago of the South, but he’s your Texans’ Blago of the South, eh?
(In case you haven’t noticed, Obama’s getting lit up with crony capitalism charges, such that having a crony capitalist challenger is as much an unforced error on the part of the GOP as having proto-Obamacare’s sponsor be our candidate.)
