SAN DIEGO (AP) Night-long celebrations will mark the final countdown to the historic end of the U.S. military's ban on openly gay troops, and even more partying will take place once it is lifted Tuesday. But in many ways change is already here.
Countless subtle acts over the past months have been reshaping the military's staunchly traditional society in preparation for the U.S. armed forces' biggest policy shift in decades. Supporters of repeal compare it to the racial de-segregation of troops more than 60 years ago.
For some gay service members, the fear of discovery and reprisals dissipated months ago when a federal court halted all investigations and discharge proceedings under "don't ask, don't tell," while military leaders prepared the armed services for its end.
Several have come out to their peers and commanders.
A few have since placed photographs of their same-sex partners on their desks and attended military barbecues and softball games with their significant others. In San Diego, about 200 active-duty personnel both gay and heterosexual made up the nation's first military contingency to participate in a Gay Pride march this summer, carrying banners identifying their branches of service. An Army soldier had tears, saying she was touched by the thousands cheering them on, after hiding her identity for so long.

This is the progressives biggest achievement so far in the culture war. I will be surprised if if did not create havoc in the ranks, especially when gay officers have dominion over strait enlisted men and women.
With General Barney Frank bringing up the rear..........

Allowing mentally ill sex perverts in the military is nothing less than extremely destructive in every way. Hopefullly the next president and Congress will overturn this and go back to the days of "ask and if the answer is wrong, out the door".
I now have become the last person in my family to have served as my boys now will not be joining unless we get a President who has guts to overturn this madness.
Agreed
I served in a combat unit and we were given a woman to see if she could keep up etc and then give our report back to higher command.
We were doing Arctic training and mountain training in north Norway in the Arctic under AMF/L which is a part of NATO.
What a complete farce it all was, we had guys on the patrols doing more work to make up for her, we had a couple of guys flirting all the time instead of doing the job and because of her one guy lost half of his finger through frost bite as he had to look after her.
We gave our report back after 3 months of this and did higher command listen, did they hell.
Now we have homosexual parties on base and men walking around in bleeding dresses.
the USMJ has not been repealed and therefore homosexuals if caught in the Marines should be kicked out by Marine law.
good points but let me point this out please.
Ever sat down to watch TV and you get a PG or 18 message along with contains graphic language, graphic sex etc.
Now why do we not get a message saying homosexuality as I am fed up of watching a movie etc and then seeing a queer prancing about as if this was normal and even worse I have to educate my kids about what the media is doing and how they are trying to make you think this illness is normal and should be accepted.
If the Catholic church organization is any guide, gays will consolidate in certain bases or commands, attempt to "convert" the straights they can, and drive out those they can't. As gays infliltrate the command structure, we will see whole bases, wings, or ships/subs become "pink," with cover-ups orchestrated from above.
The potential for trouble is virtually unlimited. For example, think of the consequences for international relations and the reputation of the United States military when some of the "pink" units are sent overseas to perform "humanitarian" or "nation building" missions.
This must be repealed when the next President takes office. It fags continue to be allowed in the military (plus the other horrors Zero and his pals have inflicted on us), then our country is over. Finished.
Thanks for your boots on the ground report, manc.
Everything you describe is the truth. Women, what to speak of homosexuals, do not belong in the military. If women want to be in the military that’s fine, but in their own service branches, the way it used to be.
“Shameful..can anyone imagine what General Patton would say?”
Patton was a great warrior & general. However, he wasn’t a paragon of sexual moral virtue. It is well known he cheated on his wife. Whatever, he would be extremely upset because he would see it as a break down in discipline....which is(from a purely secular view) the real issue. In the military of today there is already serious issues with hetereosexual misconduct that hurts discipline and morale....we don’t need the homosexual issues thrown in.
Hopefully, IF a morally conservative POTUS is elected, that person could start moving things back away from open homosexuality. Although, I don’t see anyone with the guts to expend political capital on the issue while the economy is in the tank. Really very sad state of affairs.
Even if a ‘morally conservative’ takes office, the tide has turned to the extent that I do not believe it can be reversed.
I have hope, I have faith and I’m optimistic...but those feelings do not apply to this world. They are derived out of the knowledge that Christ Himself is going to rectify the injustices of this world; and the fact that we will witness that in our lifetime.
“Christ Himself is going to rectify the injustices of this world”
Amen! He will. Will it be in my lifetime, I cannot say, but I know it WILL happen in His own good time.
Absolutely! We have faith in things ‘unseen’.
jimho, the times are pointing to that wonderful moment. The mideast situation, the earthquakes, the absolute rebellion against Him...convinces me that we will witness His return.
If not, I rest easy in the assurance that it will happen (justice)
“The mideast situation, the earthquakes, the absolute rebellion against Him...convinces me that we will witness His return.”
Dear Sister...indeed never (in my life) has it looked more like the “end times” (as I understand scripture) are approaching. IT IS CERTAIN FACT that the LORD JESUS will return as he said, but I cannot say with certainty it will be soon in our way of thinking. However, I propose dwelling on the day-to-day preparation of knowing that the Lord could call any of us home (death) at any time. We should always be “ready” to go home (I’m preaching to myself here) whether by death or the Lord’s return.
I’m 57 and remember how so many of us were convinced the Lord would return in 1988 because it was 40 years since the establishment of Israel....that is what many teachers of that time were saying. I think now, with age, to dwell on daily righteousness is more in line with what the Lord desires....however...we should always be looking forward to his return. In the mind of God it is imminent. God Bless!
By the way....what I am emphasizing is that we cannot go hid in bunkers waiting for Jesus to return. We DO NOT know when that will be. So, we have to carry on with one foot in this life and an eye towards the sky.
good post FRiend. Of course no one knows the date and anyone claiming to know an actual date (such as Harold Camping) should be called down.
But, with that said, we are witnessing prophecy unfolding right before our very eyes. Particularly regarding the middle east & Israel. Due to this President’s meddling the entire region is on fire and all are lining up against Israel.
The muslims have now advanced their position in all international affairs as well as here in the states...in 3 short years, the world has been changed dramatically and it is rushing headlong into the end.
That is just the middle east situation. Combine that with the absolute open rebellion against God, the complete evil that we see on display daily, it is obvious to anyone watching, the Lord’s return may very well happen in our lifetime (I’m a bit behind you @ 52..but now remember the 1988 prediction...I had forgotten that).
In addition we’ve got the ‘globalization’ of markets becoming more solidified and the currency is becoming increasingly unstable.
And finally, as previously mentioned, the earthquakes and natural signs that are occurring all point to one thing:
His Return. It’s both frightening and exciting to witness the events taking place.
