BREAKING NEWS: Father arrested after 'stabbing to death burglar who had broken into his home'
Daily Mail ^ | 18th September 2011 | Damien Gayle

Posted on 09/18/2011 7:56:17 AM PDT by george76

Homeowner's wife and son fled the house in terror. Second suspected intruder being hunted by police.

A father has been arrested on suspicion of murder after allegedly stabbing to death an intruder during an attempted burglary at his home last night.

Police were called to Midland Road in Bramhall, Stockport, at around 7.50 pm last night after reports that two men had forced their way into a house. Officers responding to the call discovered a man, thought to be in his 30s, with serious knife injuries.

...

Police believe that the two men had entered the property and threatened him.

Mr Cooke was home alone at the time but his wife, Karen, and their son returned during the altercation and were able to escape unhurt.

...

Neighbours spoke of their shock about the incident...'If you have children though, you do anything to protect your home.'

Another neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: 'Whoever tried to break into the house deserved all they got.'

Don’t protect your family, it’s hard to be a good little victim when you’re busy defending your home and family. /s

Here’s a bet for anyone willing to take it. No charges will be pressed against this man. The police are carrying out their enquiries, will see that he acted in self-defence and will be sent along his way.

We have totally lost our freedom and the right to protect ourselves. We are now closer to a police State than ever in American history.

In the formerly Great Britain, since he'd already crossed that 'harsh admonishment' line, may as well shank the guy, you're going to jail anyway.

Status in hell is determined by the size of your honor guard. Kill them all, God will surely know his own. No quarter until we have a civilization again.

Why have the British citizens allowed themselves to be castrated that way. They should revolt and lop off the heads of their Masters. Reclaim their country.

Yep. My bet still stands. It’s the third such incident this summer, and the previous two have both ended in the same manner.

In England the home owner will get life in prison. The thugs family will get a state pension.

No charges will be pressed against the homeowner. The police are just following procedure.

Here’s the other two incidents from earlier this summer:

Salford Burglar stabbed - no charges against homeowner

Shopkeeper, 72, will not face charges over florist raid death

Nothing will happen to this homeowner. Mark my words

I hope the anonymous neighbor isn’t arrested for a thought crime and gets sent to a re-education camp.

The UK is leading the West into the abyss of destruction. Nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

You are probably correct that no charges will be filed.

But, I do not want to live under a system where I am guilty until proven innocent....which is what this is.

In Britain, you only have the right to self-defense after the state approves it.....meaning you do not have a right, but a privilege.

Because, for better or for worse, that is the procedure. Police have to establish that the death was not premeditated and the homeowner acted in self-defence.

Once that is established, and it will be establish, he’ll be released.

One thing to note is that arrest is a different thing in the UK to the US. There are no arrest records over here. Nothing permanent will go against this man’s name for being arrested and then released. He is also not in ‘jail’, he will be in an individual cell in the police station and will no doubt be released on bail within a few hours.

I don’t defend the UK approach to self-defense or criminal justice AT ALL.

But this “arrest” is routine police procedure after a violent death and does not have the same implication as an arrest in the US.

You misunderstand the term ‘guilty until proven innocent’. If this should go to court, which it won’t, the the onus would be on the prosecution to prove his guilt, rather than the defendant to prove his innocence.

As it is, the man has been arrested on ‘suspicion of murder’. He is not guilty of anything yet.

And at times it looks like a new kind of ‘police state’ with the police acting unwittingly as enablers of the criminals, who as we know, all have only the best of intentions in breaking into people’s homes. It’s even harder for a victim to come out smelling like a rose when
it’s discovered that the home invaders weren’t armed or not
provably armed. But another poster was probably correct in assuming that the victim will (eventually) be sent on his way. It’s the eventually part that is so vexing: a long, drawn-out process has to be set in motion, where at every point the victim has to be reminded of the “complexities” of the law, and how close he might come to being judged “guilty” in some way.

The Brits are SUBJECTS, not citizens.

That was one of the reasons for our War of Independence. We are going to need a second one very soon.

It’s not good enough that a homeowner defending himself by the available means necessary (not even a gun) must now spend a fortune defending himself in the courts (civil and or criminal). More reason we need the castle doctrine in every state.
BTW these Brits and other freedom loving euros should consider themselves to be oppressed by their government on this basis. Hopefully, when we get a conservative in the WH, the administration and state department should adopt a new asylum policy to protect these basic rights and expedite immigration for these people.
