Former Senator Rick Santorum does not deserve to be President and should immediately withdraw from the Republican primary race.
He is either too dumb to serve or too dishonest.
In response to a question about Barack Obamas eligibility to be President, Santorum said:
My understanding is that issue was solved. If theres evidence to the contrary [showing Obama is not eligible], they should bring it forth.
Perhaps Santorum should indeed look at the mountain of evidence implicating Obama as a usurper and felon.

The correct answer is: pose the question to the man. While we are at it, we’d like to see college records.
Third option is coward.
No one...not ONE candidate running or considering running for POTUS is going to take the NBC line of attack. Not if they want to be taken seriously by the VAST majority of voters. You might have a case but until you can convince the voting public OF IT, no politician who doesn’t want to be laughed off of the stage is going to take up your cause.
These folks want to be President, not a freakin’ sideshow.
santorum’s a perfect example of rinoitis—don’t raise waves,
in fact, don’t do anything.
I think Santorum was just signaling that this is not an issue he wants to push front and center. Not every candidate can make every issue a key issue in his/her campaign. That is their prerogative. I think the article is a bit of an over shoot for this reason.
That is a real trap of a question. A small fraction of the US voting population understands the legal issues and knows the revealed evidence. We are viewed as kooks by the vast majority of the population. How should a candidate respond to this? If he or she takes an aggressive stand that Obama is an usurper and there is a mountain of evidence to prove it, their candidacy would go down in flames then and there.
As much as we dislike Santorum’s answer, it is the pragmatic answer that won’t brand him as a conspiracy kook.
They’re going after Santorum because of his rebuttal to Ron Paul in the Florida debates. Where he cited precepts of Koran which libs do not accept... Excepting if it were announced by some Christian fundamentalist group then they’d be all over state media ...
Santorum is running for VP, so he does not want to be laughed off the stage if he talks about the eligibility issue.
>>> Not if they want to be taken seriously by the VAST majority of voters. You might have a case but until you can convince the voting public OF IT, no politician who doesnt want to be laughed off of the stage is going to take up your cause.<<<
You are 100% correct, and this applies to many controversial issues in fact. Folks who are really fired up about a specific issue should understand that it is up to the advocates of those issues to win their battle in the arena of ideas with the voting public FIRST - and not simply up to candidates to commit political suicide before that battle is won with the voters.
Sure, public officials taking some slings and arrows is part of the equation - and Santorum has shown a willingness to do so - but rabid issue advocates need to examine themselves as well as folks asking for votes.
you will see NONE of the candidates making waves on this issue....NONE.
I am not a Santorum fan by any stretch...but what business does ‘America Jr.’, have in our political processes??
That would be a great answer indeed. Seems like Newt (and I’m not a supporter of his) is the best in the field with coming up with snappy answers like that.
Of course, if a candidate is not making an issue part of his/her campaign, I think we should give him/her slack if they simply come up with an ok answer. The author at CFP apparently disagrees when it comes to HIS pet issue.
**Only** Obama can answer that question.
Republicans candidates should refuse to give any opinion, only Obama has access to the certifiable proof. Again, the correct response should be:
“Why are you asking me? What certifiable evidence do I have? Go investigate it, yourself. Ask Obama.”
I see guys like Santorum, Huntsman, Gingrich, Bachman, Paul Cain and maybe a few I missed hanging in this race with absolutely no chance of being the nominee and I wonder why are they doing it. My instincts tell me there must be a money angle to it (Always follow the money). I don’t know the rules on keeping Campaign cash, but perhaps it is future Book, TV or Speaking Deals that is the motive. There must be some financial incentive here, otherwise it just doesn’t make sense. Any of you smart guys out there have another rationale?
They might get a TV show like Mike Huckaby.
You have an interesting perspective - and I agree with your logical analysis.
Ironically, one reason it is not a pet issue for me is because I have no way of knowing the truth let alone of proving it. I have my doubts for sure, but I can’t do anything about it. If someone could, I’d welcome it.
Meantime, we all have prove he’s a socialist and an incompetent and a pay to play crony - so those are more my issues.
Yup. Dunno why birthers are now singling out Santorum, none of our candidates are going to even pay lip service to this eligibility stuff.
These birther conspiracies are just never, ever going to be advanced by any candidate or politician that wants to be taken seriously. In fact, the next time people MIGHT pay a little attention to birthers will only be to see their heads explode if Marco Rubio is selected as our nominee's VP running mate (which is highly likely).
