Some of Japans most sensitive defence secrets have been targeted by hackers, who have gained access to up to 80 computers of its biggest defence contractor - in what appeared to be a coordinated attack.
Contractor Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd said today its submarine, missile and nuclear plant component factories had been targeted, according to a report.
Some information could have been stolen in the first known cyber attack on Japans defence industry, the company confessed today.
We've found out that some system information such as IP addresses have been leaked and that's creepy enough, said a Mitsubishi Heavy spokesman.
We can't rule out small possibilities of further information leakage but so far crucial data about our products or technologies have been kept safe, he said, adding the company first noticed the cyberattack on August 11.

It must have been the Amish.
According to Perry and Bush, the Chinese are our friends.
Is it not a level playing field? They hack us, but we don’t hack them? I think not.
Ah ha! See the other post about Taiwan looking for the know how. Could they be the ones? Hmmmmm.
classified info on Internet connected servers?
can you say mishandling of classified infomation?
Chinoises Rouges no doubt...
This might sound a bit loopy, but what if Mitsubishi sold that data access to the Taiwanese and then released the story about the computers being hacked so as to have an alibi with the ChiComs?
That way, if the ChiComs bitched, the Japanese could look all innocent and say “Hey, we didn’t do it.” And the ChiComs couldn’t exactly complain about Taiwan stealing secrets — not that anyone would care if they did.
Diplomatically, it’s brilliant. And Japanese submarine designs are pretty darn good. Actually perfect for what Taiwan needs. I just wonder if they have the shipyard capabilities and talent to put an indigenous sub together.
