Rick Perry’s newbie mistake on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (LOL)
Washington Post ^ | September 19, 2011 | Glenn Kessler

Posted on 09/19/2011 4:12:10 PM PDT by Baladas

Handling the Israeli-Palestinian relationship is one of the most delicate and time-consuming tasks faced by a U.S. president, as demonstrated by this week’s drama concerning the Palestinian push for recognition as a state by the United Nations. In fact, one can argue that missteps early in President Obama’s tenure have helped lead the administration to the crisis it now faces today.

That’s why Perry’s comments to Time magazine struck us as interesting and potentially revealing. How deep is his understanding of this long-running conflict?

The Facts Perry’s statement had three parts: Palestinians must recognize Israel’s existence; they have to denounce terrorism; they have to negotiate with Israel directly. “Anything short of that is a non-starter in my opinion,” he declared.

Perry is stuck in a time warp. He’s describing a situation that existed in the 1980s, not really today. (Some people might argue about some of that, but we will explain below.)

This guy is one insufferable moonbat. He calls Perry's statements on this "remarkedly uninformed" yet he refers to Obama's policies as "missteps". No wonder nobody reads that rag much anymore.

Any one who doesn’t think the last twenty years of
dealing with the lying duplicitis murdering palestinians
is a waste of time doesn’t deserve to be read.
It’s time to start fresh.
Bulldoze Gaza.

They won’t get past part one is what my guess is. I bet Perry’s thinking the same thing.

Perry’s comments sound the most rational out of pretty much everyone I’ve heard except maybe Cain.

Seeing how the U.S. is flat broke, with deep, epic escalating problems of it's own, how about they handle their own GD issues without being baby sat by the incompetent in D.C. at tax payer expense.

No, Perry isn't stuck on stupid like moronic liberals who believe what the Palestinians say, instead of what they do.

Deport the arabs back to their native Jordan, Eqypt, Syria, and Lebanon.

Oh. So SOME people MIGHT argue about some part or another of Perry's statement but, what the hell, we'll just go ahead and call it a newbie mistake anyways.

But, please, by all means, explain below.

Perry is absolutely right. The writer is hung up on the Oslo Accord, which Hamas and the Obummer have apparently rejected.

The article ends with a sneer because the Perry campaign won't return this guy's phone calls. Another good move by the Perry campaign.

That ain't what Ron Paul said! ;-)

Yes, apparently it is the author who is misinformed. The PLO never officially amended their charter, and Arafat’s letters of promise were just that.

Perry’s statement seems to imply that there is a right to a Palestinian state.

That is insane!

Jordan was founded as the Palestinian state, and its way bigger than Israel.

Did Jimmah Carter wright Perry’s taking points?

If there’s any problem with Perry’s picture, it’s that the “Pallie” situation is becoming more and more that of a herd of cats. Trying to get them to unite in a body that could have an explicit diplomatic relationship with Israel might have unwanted side effects.

No it doesn't, he is just turning the issue on them. The so called Palestinian's and their supporters don't recognize Israel so he is making that the first requirement. That pretty much kills the potential of a Palestinian state right there. Pretty clever.

Not seeing anything but reality in Perry’s comments on this issue. If someone does, It’s not Perry with the problem. And I say that as someone whose not a big fan.

..the other thing is requiring they recognize Israel means they have to recognize their legal ownership of the land. If they do that, they are at Israel’s mercy (BTW, you are right about Jordan, most don’t know this part).
