Tea Party Presses Perry on Illegal Immigration

Tea Party leaders confronted Rick Perry in his own back yard calling on him to use his power as governor to crack down on illegal immigration. JoAnn Fleming, chair of the Tea Party Caucus Advisory Committee of the Texas Legislature said, "The ball is in Gov. Perry's court. He needs to make a decision. He's running out of time." Perry favors giving in-state tuition to certain illegal immigrants which has put him at odds with many Tea Party activists. Ken Emmanuelson, a Dallas Tea Party activist, said Perry should issue an executive order overturning a Texas Department of Public Safety policy that they say has turned Texas into something of a sanctuary state. Tea Party activists are promising to hold Perry's feet to the fire over illegal immigration. Perry has been a vocal foe of a long border wall and said in 2001 he was "intrigued and open" to an amnesty proposal for Mexican workers made by George Bush. Perry's chief opponent, Mitt Romney, vetoed a similar in-state tuition bill when governor of Massachusetts, saying it would provide incentives to illegal immigrants.

Counting on Romney to stay strong on any issue is a fallacy. Willard places expediency above principle. Always has and always will. Romney supported the McCain-Kennedy-Bush comprehensive immigration reform bill before he was against it.

I refuse to vote for anyone that puts the wants and needs of THOSE HERE ILLEGALLY... above and beyond the wants and needs of American citizens and our Constitutional rights to be secure in our persons and property. Read this below... I have highlighted the most relevant parts to this thread. WE HAVE LAWS TODAY enforce them! To define and punish Piracies and Felonies committed on the high Seas, and OFFENSES AGAINST THE LAW OF NATIONS;

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

TO PROVIDE FOR CALLING FORTH THE MILITIA to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and REPEL INVASIONS;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings; And

If RP gets the R nod, what-cha-gunna-do, not vote and let Obummer slide back for another 4? If you fuss and sit it out because Perry is the nominee, you won’t have another chance to turn this behemoth around. At least with Perry, you can curtail his border friendly attitude with, “not with our money you don’t”...

And Perry supported what the people of the State of Texas, via their elected representatives, wanted?

So when Perry goes along with the Legislature you hate him; when he goes against the Legislature you hate him, then, too?

I never saw any mention of an amnesty deal involving Hispanic illegals anywhere in the news, articles, TV in TX. So as far as I know Perry made no such comments at anytime.

Not true, I did not support Giuliani, nor do I like open borders. I am well award of all these issues since I am from TX. However, it was not passed by the Legislature therefore became a dead issue.

He needs to be challenged on this BEFORE he gets the nod and he should address it. It is a LEGITIMATE concern to many Tea Party’ers and conservatives.

The illegal alien problem is not going to be solved by granting them special privileges normally reserved for those residents of the state who are legal, taxpaying citizens.

Exposing all of the candidates’ warts needs to be done, not just those who aren’t named Rick Perry.

I am amazed at the number of FReepers who berate and badmouth any other FReeper who just says “slow down, let’s take a closer look at this guy and what his record is”.
