US House speaker: giving government more tax money like 'giving a cocaine addict more cocaine'

CINCINNATI — U.S. House Speaker John Boehner said Monday he agrees with President Barack Obama that everyone should pay their fair share of taxes, but that "class warfare" and higher taxes won't solve the nation's economic problems.

The Ohio Republican spoke to a business group luncheon at the University of Cincinnati less than two hours after Obama detailed a deficit reduction plan that includes higher taxes for wealthy Americans.

"I understand that it's easy to go out there and talk about taxing billionaires," Boehner said, but he said "class warfare isn't leadership" and the big need is to get people back to work amid a 9.1 percent unemployment rate.

"At a time when spending is out of control, giving the federal government more money would be like giving a cocaine addict more cocaine," he said.

Boehner said he supports a "fairer and flatter" tax code that eliminates loopholes.

Let’s not be deceived. The tax increases will happen and Bayner will be complicit.

Question then: So why’s it okay to bail out Europe?

Probably so. In spite of his words, my BS meter goes off everytime I hear the guy speak.

As for taxes... yeah. No matter who’s in charge, nothing is EVER going to change. Would it be great to have a flat tax and eliminate personal income taxes? You bet. Imagine how good it would feel to wake up one morning and realize it’s none of the government’s damn business how much money you make and how you make it (as long as you make it legally, of course). I’d gladly pay a 25% tax on everything if that could happen... but it won’t.

Nonsense. Boehner hasn't compromised on this yet and the pressure was more intense before.

Now basically nobody thinks Obama will get his tax hike.

BINGO. The democrat plan, just like Obamacare and the EPA is to make very high rates, and then give exceptions to their big donors. Low flat rate, and no waivers. When Obama's buddies have to pay the same tax rates as the rest of us they won't be so enthusiastic about high tax rates.

"At a time when spending is out of control, giving the federal government more money would be like giving a cocaine addict more cocaine," he said.

Didn't obama admit he had used cocaine in college?

The House Pubs will take a lot of heat for saying they want to work with obama, but it is the right move politically. The media and the Rats have been able to spin that the debt mess is the Pubs fault. The "moderates" are not as news savvy as conservatives and the poll ratings for the House are way down. We need to win this election and the next 14 months is going to force our leadership to say a lot of things we will want to push back at.

Somehow, we need to get through this campaign season. It will be tough because we are probably heading into anotyher recession after Greece defaults.

Make no mistake, Boehner is an old fiscal conservative. That is the nature of republicanism in this region where I live.

But, this quote from him represents what I believe to be his true feelings.

And he's right.

Giving an addict more cocaine is not an answer. More tax money is simply more money to spend.

When the cuts to pay for the spending are ten years in the future or are imaginary (we won't be spending money that we wouldn't be spending anyway....the war when we withdraw), then we are saying that the CURRENT RATE OF INCREASE OF SPENDING must be enhanced by MORE SPENDING.

It is insanity...even to a traditional fiscal conservative.

...everyone should pay their fair share of taxes...

I can't even begin to tell you how PO'ed I get when I hear this litany over and over from both sides of the fence. Bull$$$$! When the top 10% of the wage earners foot almost 70% of the total tax receipts, the "fair share" crap goes out the window. That's why I say: Throw the IRS Code out the window and start over with a 17% flat tax. You could do away with 99% of the IRS and file your tax return on a postcard. The IRS Code would be one sentence...you don't need any more. Now, lobbying makes no sense on the tax side of the Tax-and-Spend politicians...half the problem solved. Now that's how you level the playing field and everyone pays their "fair share". You don't get fairness by giving the people who crafted the IRS Code in the first place a second chance to do it again. It's time for the people to say: Do it my way or your gone...and mean it!

The Pubs control 1 branch of the legislative part of our govt. The Rats control the other half. The Rats control the executive and a large part of the judiciary. Why exactly don't you think the Speaker is honest?
