In a statement on the day that “don’t ask, don’t tell” ends, President Obama briefly relives the moment in which he signed the bill to reverse the military’s ban on gays, saying he was “proud” to end it.

He also adds a sentence for gay service members who were kicked out of the military before the policy ended: “I want those who were discharged under this law to know that your country deeply values your service.”

Here’s Obama’s full statement:

And many Americans deeply HATE you and what you have done to this country Mr. President. Myself included.

Is there any chance this will be repealed, or is it the “Pandora’s Box” effect?

This issue is one of the reasons I decided to make phone calls for a election campaign for the first time in my life.

I knew McCain/Palin wouldn't sell out our military.

There are three areas that are important to normal, decent Americans- the family, the military, and their churches. All three are under the most enthusiastic attacks. The family structure of whole segments of our society are in ruins and our kids too dubbed down to fight against it; churches will be sued into extinction if the same-sex marry laws succeed; and now, our military has taken a blow that may well be fatal.

Nice work Obama, you stupid, stupid man.

I knew that PALIN wouldn’t sell out our military. There fixed it for you.

A little melodramatic dont you think? The entire military or the civilian leadership the country elected and or appointed?

Having just read the implementing directives again this morning, I noticed that the language used is that there will be no preferences given nor harassment, etc., tolerated “due to sexual orientation”. That cuts both ways, and I fully expect there will be a lot of “they’re messing with me because I’m NOT gay” complaints. The other thing I noted was that sexual orientation will NOT be treated like race, religion, ethnicity, etc. for purposes of filing MEO (military equal opportunity) complaints. Teeny weeny glimmers of hope, but we’ll see...

Yeah, when we nailed Him to the cross it wasn’t funny either; it’s sarcasm.

Thanks for the front line report. FWIW, I remember reading the text of the law and it specifically noted DOMA would STILL apply....and then of course a few months later Hussein said he would NOT enforce DOMA.

I just do not trust this regime at all.

I’d say that when this experiment fails, and it will, there will be a change.

Perhaps the use of the word “funny” was actually intended to mean “ironic”?

With Obozo, an inch more and he’d be a King, but an inch less and he’d be a Queen!

There really wasn’t a big problem with DODT, even though I thought it was a bad idea when it was implemented. Shutting one’s mouth ought not be punished...but this openly serving stuff is asking for trouble.

When I was in the AF during the mid to late 70’s, there were two separate occasions that a homosexual made advances on me. I politely declined, and promptly found somewhere else to be. I believe, now with the elimination of DADT, these incidents will greatly increase. However, I envision that there will be a different type of reaction by those who are hit upon compared to my own. Especially if incidents like this occur in a battle zone.
