U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told members of the National Restaurant Association on Monday that Americans need to “adjust” their tastes so that they like the kind of food the government believes they should eat—and “we have to make sure that what we do is create the appropriate transition.”

Sounds like we need to create an appropriate transition for the Secretary in 2013 so he can get on with his life’s work.

Pretty much every kind of food the government has been pushing for generations has been bad for you.

My rule of thumb is to do the opposite of what some corrupt bureaucrat suggests.

They're not worried about your ice cream. They are trying to "save the planet" and eventually will seek to ban read meat.

[sarc] Didn't you know that the cattle industry is a big contributor to globull warming? These cows also eat a lot of corn that could otherwise be diverted into ethanol production. Then all that ranch land in Texas could then be used for re-education camps. [/sarc]

I eat what I want, and I’ll deposit the used food on the USDA a**hole...er...secretary.

Sooner or later, this’ll come to a head...and I want to be the one with my hand on the handle of the guillotine. (Or perhaps I should say “headless”.)

And our masters get to determine what we need.

Load your mags, Patriots. When they’re emboldened enough to tell us what we need to eat, its almost Go Time! I really hoped that I’d never see this day.

This coming from a Dept that has more employees than there are farmers . . . another fat, bloated pile of bureaucrats who have nothing else to do but interfere with Americans' lives.

This agency along with Dept of Ed and EPA, if not eliminated entirely, should be given an annual budget of $1 and not a dime more.

Americans need to “adjust” their tastes so that they like the kind of food the government believes they should eat—

.....and this will necessarily cause the cost of food to skyrocket

They are already bullying food producers of all stripes.

Have you noticed the lack of taste and quality in some products.

Once companies start taking losses for products no one wants to buy anymore, Obama will blame them for poor quality.

“They are trying to “save the planet” and eventually will seek to ban read meat.”

Article from Feb 2011:

Sebelius, Vilsack Announce Feds’ Plan to Subsidize Fruits and Veggies at Unveiling of New Dietary Guidelines
http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/sebelius-vilsack-announce-feds-plan-subsidize-fruits-and-veggies-unveiling-new-dietary

“The guidelines, which are required by Congress and are updated, as needed, every five years, also set a 300 milligram limit of cholesterol and encourage people to eat more chicken and fish and to avoid beef, which is defined as a “solid fat.””
~~~~~~~~~
Beef is now defined as a solid fat?
Yes, I have noticed...I believe there were threads denoting changes in Campbell Soups, etc. They are using different salts? etc.
What I find very troubling is that these government “initiatives” started with helpful suggestions to children, then government mandated to schools re: vending machines and meals.
Now government has begun to nudge restaurants and change adults menus...
I see incremental steps of government control...socialism on the move!!!
If they can mandate how many miles per gallon your car must get, or how many bullets you can put in a magazine - why would it be so odd that they can mandate how much salt (or beef or candy) you can have?
“We know where you eat”.
Time to “sack” this “sack of shit” Vilsack.
“You know, as we deal with this issue of reducing sodium and sugar, it sounds simple to do, but you all know better than I do, it’s not as simple as it sounds,” said Vilsack.
“It’s going to take time for people’s taste to adjust and they will adjust over time, but it will take some time,” he said. “So, we have to make sure that what we do is create the appropriate transition.
"At the end of the day, though, we've got to deal with this," said Vilsack.
