Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan described offshore gas drilling by estranged ally Israel and Cyprus as "madness" on Wednesday, raising the stakes in a confrontation over potentially huge deposits in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The quarrel over gas has escalated in recent weeks, just as relations between Israel and Turkey abruptly broke down over Israel's refusal to apologize for its raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla last year in which nine pro-Palestinian Turkish activists died.
"The Greek Cypriot administration and Israel are engaging in oil exploration madness in the Mediterranean," Turkish state news agency Anatolian quoted Erdogan as telling Turkish journalists in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting.
"Actually, the Greek Cypriot administration's drilling activity is nothing but sabotage of the negotiation process between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots," he added.
Erdogan again emphasized Turkish military prowess on Wednesday: "Our assault boats and frigates are already in the region," Anatolian quoted him as saying.

This dude has been hitting the Houka WAAAAAY to hard lately.
Since when is Gas exploration and drilling “madness”?
The Israelis and the Cypriots should really get under the turkeys in Turkey’s skin and join with the Armenians in oil exploration.
Bring it on, douchebag! Israel will put them on the bottom of the Sea.
Greece is always fighting with Turkey. Maybe now’s a good time for another dust-up. It would take their minds off the fact that their broke. Instead of beating up on their own riot police, they can expend their energy on something useful like throttling Erdogan.
Wow this muzzie is kooky with his jihad. Some call Turkey as Gomer. Either way along with Libya and Iran the nations of Ezek ara are lining up against Israel in the latter days.
Some say the Edomites (Esau) went there and settled.
Not only Libya, but Egypt too, both are heading quickly into the Iranian orbit. I wonder how Turkey will figure in this.
Joel Rosenberg has an uncanny knack: fiction today, fact tomorrow.
“Israel will put them on the bottom of the Sea”. Then Turkey can purchase new glass-bottom boats, to view their old assault boats and frigates sunk by Israel and remember
“he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.” Zechariah 2:8. If you touch Israel, you touch the apple of God’s eye, and you will never touch His chosen people again.

He thinks pushing around Cyprus is the same thing as pushing around Israel.
Oh, and Russia has promised to protect Cyprus too.
He will either eat crow, or get his a$$ kicked.
This week on the Tribal Update, the weekly satirical newscast produced by Latma, the Hebrew-language, satirical media criticism website I run, we bring you and interview with Egyptian Field Marshal Tantawi, the head of the ruling military junta who our intrepid reporters tracked down during last weekend's mob assault on the Israeli embassy in Cairo.
We also bring you a Turkish naval captain discussing Turkey's plans to destroy Israel.

These Muslim psycho-b!tches have enough oil . They have used their oil wealth to spread jihad and to build nuclear weapons. Time to let the Jews make some oil and natgas money
F off Turkey!
“”Actually, the Greek Cypriot administration’s drilling activity is nothing but sabotage of the negotiation process between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots,” he added.
Erdogan again emphasized Turkish military prowess on Wednesday: “Our assault boats and frigates are already in the region,” Anatolian quoted him as saying.”
Sabotaging negotiations, huh? Sounds familiar....
Here’s a little video for ya, Erdogan: http://www.latma.co.il/
Remember it when you see what becomes of your assault boats and frigates.
The dude is itching for a fight, or at least a way to flex his muscles.
Turkey and Iran have always been rivals.
Does anyone even recognize “Turkish Cyprus”?
Israel has aligned with Greece and Cyprus to drill this gas - very smart of Israel because they draw a wedge further between Turkey and the EU, call attention to Turkish aggression on Cyprus, and of course give themselves a defensive shield. While Israel is not in NATO, Turkey and Greece both are. By working with Greece, Turkey would be attacking NATO if it were to attack these Israeli/Greek installations.
They pretended to be docile and friendly for years, hoping the EU would let them in. The EU decided to put off their application for a few years and they went over the edge, threw their lot in with the Arabs. That was the dumbest thing they could do - align themselves with some of the poorest people on earth. What good is that going to do their national self-interest? Can’t trade with poor people. Can’t really learn anything from the Arab countries they have no technology. The Turks don’t need cheap Arab laborers.
Turkish foreign policy = “madness” but I don’t really care if their country implodes so long as they don’t cause wars or make trouble for people I do care about.
The Edomites would be Jordan. Turkey has been House of Togarmah and some call it Gomer. I have been calling it House of Togarmah but there may be some valid points for Gomer.
Here is a prophecy regarding the land of Jordan and the Returning Messiah (see Bozrah in the KJV):
King James Version (KJV)
1Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
2Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?
3I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.
4For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.
5And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.
6And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.
If the right people take over again, things could change on that front. History is bound to repeat itself on that front again.
