Perry could race ahead in Republican cash race

(Reuters) - Texas Governor Rick Perry, already besting Mitt Romney in opinion polls, is likely to match or surpass him in the Republican presidential money race when new figures come out in coming weeks, backers say.

Perry's meteoric rise in the polls since jumping in the race last month and his thick Rolodex of wealthy Texan backers as a three-term governor are key drivers making him a fundraising force against Romney.

Brian Ballard, a Florida lawyer who raises money for Romney, acknowledged that Perry may well pull ahead in the third quarter, which ends next week.

"I expect he'll raise a ton of dough," he said. "I imagine he'll be the person leading the quarter because he has an untapped reservoir of Texas money," said Ballard, who was John McCain's Florida fundraising chair in the 2008 campaign.

Perry has told his financial backers he wants to raise at least $10 million this quarter, several of his fundraisers said. That target may well be too low, according to two Perry fundraisers.

"I think you'll see the September 30 report will have bragging rights associated with it," said a prominent Perry fundraiser, who was not authorized to speak for the campaign.

I grabbed that off his last video ad. I grabbed it where the flag looked the best. IF you look at his new ad video there isn't noticeable pink in it.

The biggest boost he could get right now would be from a strong performance in the next debate.

He'll be good but he'll never be as good as everyone expects or wants him to be.

We've been conditioned to American Idol or Dancing with the Stars judgment -- next they'll have people "vote" on their phones for the one they liked.

I want a leader, not someone who could be on the debate team. I will not choose my candidate on these debates (because I've chosen my candidate on what he's done and what he will do as president). These debates are more like "my team beat your team this week" sport.

Go celebrate the end of DADT with Sarah Palin and her pro-abortion lez friend, Tammy Bruce as well as Palin supporters GOProud. Probably your kind of ‘guys’.

Hey 'guy'...

" I've come to the irrefutable conclusion that those who begrudge Palin appear to have little use for logic or even common sense."

FWIW...I never thought Bush won any of his debates with Gore or Kerry.

I guess it sells advertising.

Now they’re co-sponsored: Tea Party, CNN, Fox, MSNBC, Google, next we’ll have Minute Maid, Drudge, and such...

Yes, I know...but Perry is the one who has the ability to reach into those deep pockets...the oil men...it is nice Perry was careful to not make the mistake of passing legislation in Texas to hinder the oil and gas producers. He was smart enough not to burn those bridges as another did.

..... He was smart enough not to burn those bridges as another did.

But some of them are not happy with Rick Perry, and it's coming from establishment GOP. I think that was why the Bushes and Rove pushed back with Sen. Hutchison in the primary. Perry's too hard-nosed for them -- too much his own man. I wish I could put my finger on that article. It had to do with those tensions.

But you are right there are many, many business owners who are desperate to get the boot of government off their necks. The economy will let loose once it does.

That's why the EPA has Texas backed into the corner (Perry was the only governor who wouldn't sign off on their dictate), trial lawyers are preparing their fight ($$$$$$$) against Perry, and unions (teachers #1) are again going to be the number one money and muscle for Obama (right behind the lawyers).

Maybe he can get Cain and Newt to double team with him against those other 4 losers debating. It will not ever happen, Perry isn't the type to work with others to try and knock out other republicans neither are Cain or Newt.

IF Perry is left to answer the questions without attack questions given to the other debaters, he will do fine. When you have 4 debaters double teaming against you, as what has happened to Perry...then it is hard to have a good performance. Have you ever watched someone walking through a mine field?

When I say strong performance I don’t mean Ronald Reagan strong. That comes along very seldom.

I mean he’s got to have better attack lines against Milty the Mitt.

He’s really got to lay it out how bad that Magic Undies Flip Flopper really is.

The others he should just basically shrug off, including the shrieking bwitch from h*ll.
