A top Palestinian official said Wednesday that President Mahmoud Abbas would accept no political delays on his bid for membership in the United Nations, rejecting mounting pressure from the United States and France to first return to negotiations with Israel.
The Palestinians plan to submit their letter of application on Friday when Abbas is to speak to the U.N. General Assembly, but he faced a withering lack of support as the world body opened its annual meeting. President Barack Obama said there could be no "shortcuts" in the quest for Middle East peace, a message that was echoed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
"We will not allow any political manoeuvring on this issue," said Saeb Erekat, a senior aide to Abbas and former chief of negotiations.

Also, it was a region that lived in tentative peace with Israel. Thanks to "arab spring," which is not about democracy but about muslim brotherhood domination, that is no longer so.
Then don’t accept it. GTFO out of here and get back to the s**thole you came from.
What a spineless world we live in, where cockroaches run the show.
Or what exactly?
Or they’ll blow stuff up and kill innocent people?
That’s what I thought. Terrorist blackmail.
“We will not allow any political manoeuvring on this issue,” said Saeb Erekat, a senior aide to Abbas and former chief of negotiations.”
Or What? Is there something that you’d like to tell us? What are you going to do if you don’t get your way, have yet another uprising? There’s been so many “uprisings” in that part of the world that it should be renamed Viagra.
I’m sorry but Abbas needs to get his ass kicked off of US soil, period.

It said on another thread that a Palestinian spokesman had said it’s either a Palestinian state or violence.
Abbas is getting too big for his britches - like Erdogan.
“President Barack Obama said there could be no “shortcuts” in the quest for Middle East peace,...”
Meaning: Obama would like to wait until November 7, 2012 before really sticking it to Israel.
Either the check didn’t clear, or they’ve upped the ante.....
If we were smart we would just tell them to f-off. Go ahead with your vote, veto it, and call them afterwards to tell them to f-off once again and hang up. LET THEM EXPLODE IN VIOLENCE like they always do. Every time they do it only hurts their cause.
We will not allow any political manoeuvring on this issue, said Saeb Erekat,
This “issue” is nothing but political manoeuvering!
...rejecting mounting pressure from the United States and France to first return to negotiations with Israel. Thanks La Enchiladita.
And, why not, without any leadership from the U.S. to put them in their place.
