Riehl: Is Rick Perry Done?
Conservatives 4 Palin ^ | Sept. 23, 2011 | Dan Riehl

Posted on 09/23/2011 9:16:39 AM PDT by RobaWho

Everyone here in Palinville who looks forward to good hard competition will be relieved to know that Gov. Rick Perry was NOT drunk at last night’s debate, all appearances to the contrary. It’s just that before taking the stage he inexplicably chose to receive a Gardasil shot, one of whose known side effects is mental slowness.

I heard about the whole pre-debate immunization from Michele Bachmann’s Twitter.I could be wrong on that. It’s just the information I received.

But enough about my opinion of Perry’s debate performance, let’s hear Dan Riehl’s …

As posted earlier - “Palin bests Perry in EVERY single possible category, from Jobs, Debt Reduction, Taxes, Spending Cuts, Bold Leadership, Conservative Credentials, Zero Crony Capitalism, Consistent Respect for the Constitution, Healthcare, Immigration - you name the issue, Palin’s records is stronger and more consistent than Perry, Romney and every other candidate in the race — or even Chris “The One” Christie that many in the progressive right wing of the pundit class seem to love. Last night’s debate simply solidified the public’s complete dissatisfaction with our current GOP options. Yes, all would be “better than Obama.” That is not our standard - We need the absolute best candidate - period. Gov. Sarah Palin is that candidate.” She WILL run. She will announce. She is vetted, proven, popular, prepared and ready to offer the American public an exceptional option NOT from the establishment’s fixed menu.

Pointing out the shortcomings of other candidates is fair game, but doing so in a mocking manner does little to advance Sarah’s cause.

Please accept this as intended, constructive criticism.

If Romney moves back to the top I think I will puke...I love his defense of SS ponzi scheme, he sounds like Obama.

The Republic is in danger and you want the top candidates to drop out?

That’s nuts.

“Democrat Lite Establishment bots”
Yawn. So is CainPalinGingrichSantorum ... Anyone who actually RUNS.

Except for Ron Paul, and if you think he’s the savior ... that’s nuts.

So who will save us?

No, I don’t think Perry is “done”. Yes, I do agree that he’s making any chance he has a lot harder with his recent performance.

It’s still early. A lot can happen.

As a native Texan and long time republican activist in Texas who previously was a STRONG Perry supporter I will offer the following emotionless opinion.

Rick blew it BIG TIME last last night and lost me as a supporter in the process! Here’s why.

When the legislature passed the bill to provide in state tuition for illegals the make up of the Texas legislature was much different than it is today. Republicans (not conservatives) held a one seat majority in the Texas Senate (16 republicans to 15 democrats). The Texas house was composed of 78 democrats and 72 Republicans. Today the Texas Senate is composed of 19 republicans (not conservatives) and 12 democrats. The Texas House has 101 Republicans and 49 democrats. That is a HUGE change over 10 years and one of the main reasons this has occurred is this very issue!

Rick Perry was dealt a bad hand back then. EVERY member of the legislature save four voted for this bill even though the public was adamantly opposed to it. Perry, the newly minted governor of Texas at that time, signed it into law and I seriously doubt that anyone would have done differently under the circumstances.

The public in Texas adamantly opposed the idea of granting in state tuition to illegals then and they still do today. It was shoved down our throats by the 77th legislature and that is, at least in part, why the current make up of the legislature is what it is!

Until today, I had thought Rick Perry understood all this but his words last night convince me beyond all doubt that I was wrong! He doesn’t get it and chose to insult those of us in Texas who have always opposed in state tuition for illegals! He’s done! He will only sink the polls from this point until he finally decides to pack it in!

“Palin bests Perry in EVERY single possible category

Sarah Palin, so far, has failed to best Rick Perry in the all-important “Who has declared themselves a candidate” category. “

And if she does run, she will end up being the less conservative, less disciplined, less articulate less experienced and less popular version of Perry.

I’d vote for Herman Cain before either of these two maroons.

If the primary were held today and only the currently declared candidates were on the ballot, I'd vote Cain without a second thought.

To be fair - Dan did NOT write the opening paragraph. Granted, it was over the top and a bit too much, the writer at C4P drafted the intro paragraph - Dan’s actual comments were fair, reasonable and probably much more to your desire for “fair & balanced” commentary.

Your comment is inappropriate, infantile and beneath you.

We can agree to disagree, but we each do have a right to our own opinions.

When you stoop to a comment like you made, you have ceded the discussion victory.

You owe her an apology. Are you man enough to do so?

Wow! That's a big claim!

I might have gone for that three debates ago but it is a much tougher sell now.

Sarah is less articulate than Rick Perry? Less conservative?

I'm just not seeing it myself.

Pointing out the shortcomings of other candidates is fair game, but doing so in a mocking manner is not a great help to Sarah’s cause.

Save the Alinsky style mockery for the real enemy.

Yeah why not get rid of Rick Perry and let’s wait for Obama to be re-elected.

No need to worry. Sarah Palin's going to ride in on a moose and save the day.

Romney didn’t do much to damage Perry. Perry’s damage is all self inflicted. He performed terribly, looks clumsy, looks like he doesn’t understand even the issues he is trying to speak to.

Perry’s tactic has been to attack Romney. Romney’s tactic has been to let Perry shoot himself in the foot. Considering that Perry has the poll lead this is actually a bit of role-reversals here as the person behind usually tries to attack and the person in front rises tall. As far as tactics go, Romney’s is working and Perry’s has not.

I gave Perry a chance - I didn’t know much of him. But in 3 debates so far I am not impressed at all. Leaning towards Santorum now though it is early and I am not decided Rick Santorum shined last night.
