Mark Steyn scolds Perry on illegal immigration: 'Cheap racism demagoguery'
Daily Caller ^ | September 23, 2011 | Jeff Poor

As the rest of the 2012 Republican presidential field ganged up on Texas Gov. Rick Perry during Thursday night’s GOP debate, illegal immigration was the evening’s hottest-button issue — particularly the granting of in-state tuition rates to children of illegal immigrants in Texas. Now Perry’s defense seems to have struck nerve with National Review columnist Mark Steyn.

Filling in for Rush Limbaugh on his radio program Friday, Steyn, the author of “After America: Get Ready for Armageddon,” took issue with Perry’s response to those attacks.

Rick Perry “has basically adopted the Democratic line now on the whole illegal immigration issue,” Steyn said. “He says that you know, if you want to demonize him for providing education to the children of illegal immigrants at in-state tuition rates, then you don’t have any heart. That’s a Democrat talking point.

The ‘Dims’ have found the prefect replacement candidate for ‘Zero’ and his name is Rick Perry.

Glad you got the point as I made a boat load of error when I fired it off! ;-)

“You know what else I find interesting on this subject is the hypocrisy of many who tolerate this behavior of non-assimilation by Mexican Nationals, but get riled-up against the same behavior by Muslims. Maybe they just don’t have a heart.”

OH well! LOL

The real topic here is the illegal children of illegals. Not the kids who were born here.

But no way do I support a closet amnesty supporter

You're wrong on this, Perry is NOT a closet amnesty supporter.

He is an OPEN amnesty supporter.

Rick Perry: "I support a guest worker program that takes undocumented workers off the black market and legitimizes their economic contributions without providing them citizenship status."

If you take the illegals here now, wave a magic wand over their heads and give them permanent legal right to live here as "guest workers" that IS amnesty. Perry is playing dumb word games when he claims it is not.

“Wait until you figure out after the loss that the Hispanic vote, not the illegal vote, is who we needed to defeat Obama. Not pandering but Texas truth of the matter.”

Don’t know about “Texas truth”, but in most places, Hispanics vote economics, not immigration.

Perry got 38% of the Hispanic vote, but that source also gave Brewer 26% and GOP candidates 38%...so Perry only matched the average GOP congressional candidate.

http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2010/11/28/republicans-and-the-hispanic-vote/

Also

http://pewhispanic.org/reports/report.php?ReportID=130

The latter gave Amnesty McCain 31% of the Hispanic vote in 2008.

Pew says: “Even so, the new survey shows that immigration does not rank as a top voting issue for Hispanics. Rather, they rank education, jobs and health care as their top three issues of concern for this year’s congressional campaign.”

We won’t win the Hispanic vote by pandering. All that will accomplish is the GOP LOSING the conservative white vote. When Perry calls me a racist for opposing in state tuition for illegals, and says I lack a heart, he is spitting in my face. My wife was born and raised in the Philippines, and two of the kids I adopted were from the Philippines, so I don’t think I have some hangup about brown skin.

But my wife and kids were required to follow the rules for immigration. I filed hundreds of pages with the INS, and paid plenty in fees. My wife & kids didn’t just walk across the border and get citizenship. I also had to sign to provide full financial support to them. No welfare, food stamps, or free medical care for them. I paid their bills, just like most families do for their members.

“the Mexican mob, who have made it impossible for any charity to be shown whatsoever to these Texas kids trying for citizenship. These highminded Christian conservatives have dumped them over wholesale.”

Hmmm...Rita, I’m a Christian. In addition to my taxes, which already support a lot of illegal immigrants, I support poor here and in other countries thru charitable giving. Yet I oppose ILLEGAL immigration.

So get off your “We’re Hispanic, and you have to kiss our butts!” high horse and deal with the fact that illegal immigrants form Mexico should be treated like illegals from the Philippines or China. No one here owes Mexicans the square root of squat! Mexicans are not ENTITLED to US citizenship!

Wow, mocking fellow conservatives because they disagree with you... You really do like Perry don’t you? You are already imitating him.

Actually there is a bill in the TX legislature now to repeal the illegal college deal. Many of us who live here are pushing it.

I thought the point was brilliant/on target however it was phrased. The nature and foundation of the US is rapidly changing, and open borders are one of the key reasons. If we miss our narrowing window of opportunity, the trend, a la CA, will be irreversible.

In a very real sense, Perry did us all a big favor last night. He tipped his hand. If he were just a little more aware of the toxicity of liberal talking points, he could easily have avoided that pitfall and kept his true colors under wraps. At least now we know who he is. Those who support him here on out do so with open eyes, and in overt favor of open borders/and an illegal invasion. Let us hope a more national-security conscious candidate wins the day.

“I fear that if we lose Texas we will never win another election and Perry’s approach WILL cause us to eventually lose Texas!”

Perry will have nothing to do with conservatives “losing Texas”.

What WILL have something to do with that, is “demographics”.

And the demographics of Texas are changing.
Moreso, they are changing rapidly.

Before too long, Texas will no longer be a majority-white state. Like California and New Mexico before it, it will become a “minority-majority” state, with Hispanics comprising a plurality — eventually to become the majority — of its inhabitants. (Aside: I can’t say a majority of “citizens” because many of the majority “inhabitants” will be illegal.

And it doesn’t matter whether there’s an amnesty or not. Those illegals who remain and propagate here will “self-legalize” in about 20 years, through their progeny, because each and every child born to an illegal residing on American soil is by law an “American citizen”, for better or for worse.

Conservatives (and the Republican party) aren’t going to get the majority of the Hispanic votes. Not now. Not ever.

To keep promoting a blind Polyanna-ish notion that they somehow might, is to ignore reality. As a well-know lady writer said some years ago, we may ignore reality, but we cannot escape the _consequences_ of ignoring reality….

Just sayin’...

He couldn’t do anything about it. It was a bill passed by both the senate and the house.

BTW I’m not sure where you come up with what you posted to me because I never said anything about his leadership one way or the other.

“No all, but good majority come here to in a sense create a country within a country the ‘United States of Mexico’ one where they can live and thrive in the same history, culture and language of their homeland and yet not under the same corrupted government.”

Um, your name (United States of Mexico) is a little behind the times.

Can you say, “Atzlan”?

I knew you could!

Remember when folks were laughing and jeering at that very concept?

Put Atzlan onto your map... if you don’t, it may be appearing there soon, all by itself!

Just sayin’...

Perry got 38% of the Hispanic vote

These guys like Perry, Bush and McCain are like the businessman who was losing $1 on each sale.

When asked how his business was going to survive, he said "I plan to make it up in volume!"

Perry was on Hannity this afternoon, and he was saying that the illegal children meet the requirements for in-state tuition based on texas law if they graduate from a texas high school and lived in the state for a minimum for three years. I guess my next HEARTLESS question is why are these illegal children going to Texas highschool on the tax payer dime, and middleschools on the tax payer dime? I AM SICK OF IT!!!! GET RID OF THEM, dont let them in our school systems!!!!!!! Mexico has schools, they can attend those!!!
