A Facebook post announcing plans by a UC Berkeley Republican group to sell baked goods priced according to race, gender and ethnicity - "White/Caucasian" pastries for $2 and "Black/African American pastries for 75 cents, for example - has drawn outrage on campus.
"I'm ashamed to know that I go to the same school with people who would say stuff like this," responded student Skyler Hogan-Van Sickle on Facebook. "I'm really trying to figure out how someone can be this hateful."
The campus Republicans, who expect to go forward with their "Increase Diversity Bake Sale" on Tuesday, say the event is meant to mock an effort by the student government to drum up support for SB 185, a bill to let the University of California and the California State University consider ethnicity in student admissions. It's awaiting approval or veto by Gov. Jerry Brown.
"Our bake sale will be at the same time and location of a phone bank which will be making calls to urge Gov. Brown to sign the bill," posted six students who created the Facebook page. The purpose "is to offer another view to this policy of considering race in university admissions. The pricing structure of the baked goods is meant to be satirical."
But students say the joke is anything but funny. More than 200 students responded to the event, most opposed, and some violently so. One threatened to burn the table and set the cupcakes on fire. At least four student groups sent complaints to campus administrators, and a student-only meeting was set for Friday evening to discuss it.

"If you don't come, you're a racist," the post declares.

Never mind proposed; they’ve had them at other schools; they’re unpopular because it becomes clear that our government treats blacks, Hispanics, and women as less-evolved monkeys who could never compete with Anglo and Asian men. The people protesting this are simply donning their gorilla outfits in public.
Finally, I may just consider donating to my alma mater, UC Berkeley. Nice to see a bit of sanity. The libbies can SO dish out mockery but they are very thin-skinned.
Didn’t USC have a bake sale like this about 10 years ago? Same outrage by the libbies, same satire from the Young Republicans.

There's the problem. The whites should have stated they were dead serious.
Violence may not be the right response at this time but laughing at a prank while blacks stomp whites to near death isn't the way to respond.

This is just about formalizing what has been informally true for decades.
I remember looking at the scholarship offerings posted on the very large wall at San Jose State, over twenty years ago.
It was very clear even then that “Whitey” needs to be a hell of an athlete, or expect no help.
But there were scholarships posted for a dizzying array of “Ethnic” preferences.
Some came right out and required “Black” or “Hispanic” applicants, some required a “Z” in the applicants last name, other made a pretense of impartiality, but the fine print made it clear anglos were not welcome to apply.
I used to be disappointed to not have been able to afford a college “Education”, now I’m just relieved to have bypassed the PC and socialist propaganda. (And DEBT!)
Virtually every useful thing I know, I learned on my own, after escaping the public school indoctrination course.
Take a survey of those you know with a degree, you will probably find few actually working in the field they studied!

Look up Ralph Bakshi’s movie, “Coonskin” (aka Street Fight).
A vicious satire, with Scatman Crothers doing some good voice-over work, as well as Phillip Michael Thomas at the beginning of his career.
Unfortunately, Rev. Sharpton utterly missed the satirical point of the film, and accused Mr. Bakshi of racism; Mr. Bakshi is one of the last people on Earth I’d accuse of that charge (read his bio, and look up the film on Wikipedia).
Satire just seems to fly over some folks heads.
You mean the Berkeley police didn’t arrest these people for selling food without a license, a certificate of cleanliness, failure to wear hairnets, handling food while not wearing gloves, proper storage facilities for the food, etc.? Man, that city isn’t up to speed! Or maybe they were too busy arresting little kids with lemonade stands.

I have asked Facebook to delete the repubs racially divisive effort and I hope you will all do this as well. There is protected free speech and then there is this hate speech which hopefully will soon be unprotected. Once Obama gets reelected and is able to make a few supreme court appointments sanity can be restored to the nation with a liberal Supreme court. We will see justice and this provocative violence inducing hate speech will be outlawed. You cannot yell fire in a crowded theater and these repub/tea racists have gone too far this time.
