PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (AP) -- The U.S. shares responsibility with Mexico for confronting the danger posed by international crime rings that ship drugs across the border, a top American general said Friday.

Army Gen. Charles H. Jacoby Jr., head of the U.S. Northern Command, said Mexico isn't just a neighbor but "part of our North American family."

And American has no correlation to Mohawk; what’s your point?

I didn’t know American was considered a language; I’ve never seen that anywhere else but your post.

Give me a break.

General — you are a commander in the UNTIED STATES ARMY. You uphold the UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION. Mexico? They are no kin to us. Many of their citizens are, in fact, a threat to us. The drug cartels, Coyotes who help illegals cross our border, gun-runners — ALL of them are our ENEMIES. STOP trying to impress the politicians and hold your tongue. Soon we’ll get a REAL C-in-C in office, and maybe THEN you can do what NEEDS to be done. But if you keep up this “family” talk, it’s obvipous you’re stuck on stupid, and we’ll need a new General or 2....or 20...

Oh, Kay, we speak English. Happy? Or rather an English dialect. Back to main point. If Mexicans say they’re Mexicans then whey do they speak Spanish? They tell us to go back to Europe. Perhaps then those Spanish speaking Mexicans should go back to Spain.

Most of Mexico’s population isn’t European at all; it is one of the few countries where the true natives had a large role in their battle for independence from Spain (unlike the US, or South America). The ruling class (like Vicente Fox, the 6’+ white guy that was their president) are European-descended. I don’t think “Fox” is European Spanish or any native tongue from Mexico. Mexicans know that without European intervention they’d still be living like people in Papua, New Guinea; they’d have nowhere to run to to send remittances back home. Anyone in Latin America can look at Cuba to see “Life Without White People” (like the History Channel’s “Life After People”); even many Cubans can remember their Angola expedition...

Mexicans speaks a Spanish dialect in the same manner we speak an English one.

There is nothing factually incorrect in the article, and the NORTHCOM Cdr is building/sustaining relationships with his Mexican counterparts, hence the rhetoric.

On a personal note, I have worked directly for GEN Jacoby in a previous assignment. It would be difficult to find a more intelligent and less pretentious leader in the army.

I don’t recall him being a “pin-head and embarrassment”, but perhaps your experience working with him was different...

regards,

In any event, it was Spain who came up into southwest US, not Mexico. And one of the reasons Spain did was to counter Russia who was coming down from Alaska. Mexicans may have come across the Rio Grande from time to time but never established any settlements in what is the USA. That was because of native Indians kicking them back; they'd run into the Yuman tribes, the Pima and Papago, the Pueblo, and the Navajo and Apache.

My point being that Mexico has no claim to any part of southwest US as they say. Then too, it goes back to why don't they speak any of the 63 indigenous languages in Mexico? There still are native Mexicans but then most are direct descendants of Spanish Conquistadors.

Spain settled much of the Southwest and Pacific coast, but Russia had little to do with it; when Lewis & Clark set out to map the “Louisiana Purchase”, Spain sent troops to try to intercept them - Spain had already claimed much of that land, but was unable to settle it in any numbers - their competition (which later became ours) was British claims.

Spain held much of the “American Southwest” until Mexico gained their independence; Mexico then owned the territory, but couldn’t defend it against American designs (Santa Anna of Alamo fame/infamy was in the Spanish army until independence; he then led the new Mexican army). The US doesn’t even dispute this; we paid Mexico for the land we took.

Descendants of conquistadores, or any other other Spaniards, are a very small percentage of Mexico’s population; it is an Indian nation. Some Latin American countries had few or no natives; they are “white” countries today (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay). Others had few Spanish settlers; they are “Indian” countries today (Peru, Ecuador, Honduras). Mexico is undoubtedly one of the latter; Spaniards bear little resemblance to the dark little hobbits filling Mexico and California.

I've said some really dumb things in my time, but I was never a General.

Then again, maybe the things I said weren't that dumb after all.

Yes....so is Costa Rica. No indigenous people lived in the central value when the small Spanish farmers immigrated from regions to the south. In fact, Caribbean blacks were not allowed off the coasts and inland until 1948. Costa Ricans are mostly descendants of white Europeans.

According to historian Charles Mann, there were 25 million people in the “New World” when Cortez arrived in 1519.
One hundred years later, the estimate was 700,000.

Without American citizens buying those illegal drugs the cartels would never exist.

So legalize the drugs or execute drug users and either way the problem will go away.

Cant any of these people in our government please stop taking each others phases and beating us to death with them?

Obama has “let me make this clear”

Janet Crapo-tan-0 said recently “The Federal Family”

Now we have a general telling us we related to Latin folks south of the border. Like a family.

No one in my family smuggles drugs, enter other countries illegally 1 or more times, work for peanuts, breed large families, hang out at Home Depot to get work or kidnap people,

Saddam Hussein said he was going to wage the “Mother of all battles against the US”. Now we have the Mother of this and the Mother of that everytime you turn around.

Tarmac and ramping up are two more that stand out too

I just want to puke everytime I hear someone spout off a phase that someone has already used. This of course gets used over and over again and again. Then they wonder why all of us in “flyover country” are so pissed at them.

None of them, not even one have a coherent thought in their heads. They all want to copy what others have already said.

The General played the RISK game with his natural family a bit too much as a child and has delusions of conquering the world?

There are Mexicans that don't speak spanish. They still speak their native language(6%). There are 68 recognized indigenous languages in Mexico. You can look at wikipedia or other sources on this.

Mexicans fall into 1 of 3 groups. 60% mestizo, 30% amerindian, 10% white.(CIA Fact Book)

Of the mestizos, some break then down into 2 groups. Big Mexicans like ex President Fox and small Mexicans like president Calderon.

Not a single comment on the aspects of this being part of a North American Union ploy?
The seeds are being watered with this "We Are Family" BS, IMO.

Wife and visited Oaxaca some years ago and the hotel clerk was giving orders in one of the indigenous languages, then quickly returned to Spanish to greet us. My Spanish must have been so painful for her that she immediately responded with “I speak English, senior...”

Depends on which historian you read. I’ve read estimates of about five to seven million on the North American continent which seems more likely. Most Indians didn’t live in huge cities where most population growth takes place. I’d say the five million estimate is closest to the truth.
