Gearheads at Barrett Jackson give $700,000.00 to wounded, US Military and their families!

This is a public (world viewable) post on Facebook that should garner attention.

Tonight the good folks at Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auctions and some of their best customers contributed $700,000.00 to wounded, US Military and their families!

This was a big night for Barrett-Jackson, our Military and families and for the Gearhead, Car Guy and Gal Nation!

Now ask yourself when was the last time the eco-jackal-extremists did anything for our fighting men and women? When? I hear crickets...

Yeah, do so. Just damn forgot that it was this weekend. If I knew I would have drove from L.A. in a nanosecond,,unless my GF pulls a PMS again.

>How about that new Camaro ZL1, the CTS-V and the ‘vette ZR1!<

Stop tempting me! LOL Viper first, bro. I drove the ZR1 a few months back from the dealer in OC and couldn’t handle the bastard. Damn stick shift was stiffer than a hooker in New York. Sh*t. If I just damn knew this weekend, I would have bought my checkbook.

The ZR1 is totally unstreetable. That thing is a straight line cruiser. I tried to justify making that a daily driver. No way.

Why of course, because the carbon footprint of those howitzers and such must be immense....

I thought so too. This might sound like blasphemy but I did test drive the new 2011 Camaro and it handled very well, especially on sharp turns at upper speeds. And this was weeks after I test drove the ZR1.

As Big Daddy Don Garlits once said. There is no substitute for cubic inches.

Absolutely true.

If you are looking for a specific car, I might be able to find one for you. I know all of these auction guys, and a number of hi-line & classic car locators as well I used to co-own Alpine BMW in LA.

Hard to beat my old '69 240Z for agile. ;) I miss when the world made real cars.

Thanks Stephen.. I am planning to have some $$'s left over in 2012 after I pay for Obama's subjugation of the lazy and entitled.

The L79 66 Nova SS is my primary interest but, I will vary on that model or an early 67 for a good value.

Those were stunningly good (and surprisingly heavy!) cars.

Here’s what actually happened.....

It’s not very often you see a Bugatti Veyron going up for auction...especially at Barrett-Jackson. Perhaps better known for their muscle cars and classics, the occasional late-model sportscar will sometimes pop up, but we can’t ever remember a Veyron crossing the block. Well, on Saturday night, a 2008 Bugatti Veyron with 11,800 miles on the clock did indeed cross the block at B-J...but things didn’t go quite as planned.

The one-time fastest production car on the planet (it’s been trumped by Bugatti’s own Super Sport) might have sold for over $1.8 million new, but was struggling to break the 1 mil mark in Vegas. Heck, it barely got to $700,000. Now, that’s still a lot of money for a car, but it should have brought much more – we’ve never heard of a non-wrecked example going for anywhere near that little. In the end, the Bug went to a guy seated near the stage who outbid a couple of phone bidders – but that’s when it got weird.

Saying that he hadn’t actually bid and then that he was only trying to help, the would-be buyer rescinded his bid... and was promptly escorted from the premises. Barrett-Jackson didn’t want to lose any credibility – so CEO Craig Jackson stepped up and bought the car himself. Just as he was announcing what had happened, he got a phone call from one of the other phone bidders who was saying he’d take the car off Craig’s hands. Quite the little soap opera, but good theater nonetheless. Follow the jump to see the video and take a look at the gallery below as well.

Lot’s of drama that actually came out well. My guess is that it’s the former owner of the car that put it up as an auction for charity - that’s the hero, along with our troops.
