The lines of argument are hardening as the party's leading presidential candidates, who delivered speeches here on Saturday, continued to dig in for what Republicans believe could be a long and bitter fight for the nomination that extends into the spring as new rules allow contenders to pick up delegates even in states where they lose.

This really creates a path for another candidate to emerge - these two attacking each other can allow someone else rise above.

We have an opportunity to coalesce behind a real conservative who can shake this election up....Herman Cain.

There are Palin-Haters and Palin-Waiters.

The Palin-Haters are just nasty.

The Palin-Waiters have to be careful that they do not end up bashing everyone while waiting for something that may never happen.

There are few objections to Herman Cain, so I suggest we get behind him to destroy Romney’s chances now.

With all due respect (because I like Cain) there are few objections to Cain because has never held public office and thus doesn’t have a record to pick apart.

When you have served in public office for a decade or more, you are going to have made some decisions that people don’t like.

I disagree.

Cain has been around politics for decades. He faced-down HillaryCare in 1990s. He has had a radio show where he talked politics for years.

Your "lack of record" would apply to Limbaugh, Hannity or Beck just the same, however, they have all taken stands on the issues and discussed them in-depth.

In fact, we know more about Cain's philosophy that we know about Palin's.

That is not a dig on Palin, just a fact that she has not had the opportunity to discuss and take a position on as many issues as Cain has had to do on the radio.

Cain has also been consistent in his positions for the last few decades. He is not a politician like Romney who just says whatever he thinks is politically expedient (like Bill Clinton).

Personal, snarky attacks accomplish only one thing. Proving that the attacker is spiteful and vindictive.

Newt and Cain were the only two candidates who discussed ideas rather than stoop to silly sniping.

We are desperate for a grown-up with a self deprecating humor and a respect for all citizens. We are not ‘folks’ we are free thinking, working people.

I doubt those two are the bogus leaders by the end of the week.

So one is suspect on healthcare. And one is suspect on immigration.

Palin is suspect on neither.

Sad but true.

I wish they'd all focus on ideas and not allow the press to stir up a feeding frenzy to influence who the GOP nominee will be.

To me it's clear the establishment and press adore Romney. At this rate, we'll get him because it's his turn just like we got McCain and Dole.

The Palin-Waiters have to be careful that they do not end up bashing everyone while waiting for something that may never happen.

Too late for that. I've said for weeks she deserves better than her "supporters."

Her announced deadline is Friday. She best not delay further.

As of now, I think it's Romney and Obama's reelected in 2012.

Santorum, Bachmann, and even Cain, are defensive of Romney on the debate stage. With his off-puttingly poor performances, Perry is unable to touch Romney or defend his record. He's in too late and too under prepared.

I'm looking closer at Newt and to a lesser extent (no public record is an issue) Cain.

The last debate was so disturbing, Jon Huntsman was starting to look like an alternative to Romney. That's not a good position.
