Obama urges black community to 'march with me' (Whites need not apply)

While acknowledging the hard-hit black community and budding criticisms in its ranks, President Barack Obama said in a speech Saturday night to the Congressional Black Caucus that he wouldn't give up -- and urged members of the black community to join him to jump-start the still-sluggish economy.

"I expect all of you to march with me, and press on," Obama said. "... Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We've got work to do."

The unemployment rate among African-Americans is 16.7%, nearly double the national average, while 40% of black children live in poverty. Such facts have made fiscal reforms a priority for caucus members, some of whom -- most of them Democrats -- have criticized Obama for not doing enough on the issue.

They include Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, who at a caucus "jobs' tour town hall" in Detroit this month described the unemployment rate among blacks "unconscionable." She said the strategy to fix it was unclear, adding that the caucus was "getting tired" of waiting for one.

She questioned the president's decision to focus on the Midwest during a three-day jobs bus tour in August, stating that the 3 million who live in Iowa -- and are mostly white -- are roughly equal in number to the African-Americans who are out of work. She suggested that Obama's administration seemed more keen to focus on that politically important state than on the black community.

"Are the unemployed in the African-American community, including almost 45% of its youth, as important as the people of Iowa?" she asked in the statement she released ahead of the president's speech before a joint session of Congress in which he announced his jobs plan.

We saw who he was early on. His mask has slipped off for most independents. The further he falls in the polls, the more desparate they will become. I think this is going to be ugly folks. As for me, I am going to work for the candidate who will judge people by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. Go CAIN!!

First they came for the Jews. Then they came for the gypses. Then they came for you. I wish our black brothers and sisters would see through all this. They are pawns in a chess game. There is no school choice. Why? This would have which gotten them out of the second slavery (welfare). Do they know who started planned parenthood (Sanger) and why? The original intent was to essentially reduce the black population. Do they know the dem majority voted AGAINST the civil rights act. My hero’s are Schindler Tubman Churchill. They all fought for freedom. I can only prayer for our country and that someday Jackson and sharpton and their ilk fade unto history and MLK’s words become a reality.

The biggest thing I heard was that fake ‘preachifying’ tone he gets to his speeches when he’s speaking to blacks.

But his WORST line was: “Take your bedroom slippers off”????????? How demeaning is that??? If a white candidate had used those words, there would be Hell to pay.

Yes, it was demeaning, but he is effectively trying to incite RIOTS. Just more of that civility he was preaching about after Gabby Giffords was shot.

The black community is already calling him an “Uncle Tom” but unlike Obama, he actually did create jobs. He also actually ran a business unlike Obama.

If Waters finds the black unemployment rate unconscionable she should first check her own conscience. I know mine is clear.

To me, my opposition to Obama has nothing to do with race. It has always been about his destructive policies and political ideology which I find repugnant.

However, this charlatan race-baiter, who fooled all the stupid white liberals, just like one of his most ardent supporters and fellow Rev. Wright congregation members, Oprah, and has successfully disguised his vile racism and self-hatred from people who wish to remain blissfully ignorant. It's truly sad how our President, who has been afforded all the advantages that his affluent white half of the family could bestow upon him, can now harbor such ill will towards the melanin-lacking component within him. A psychologist could make a handsome salary trying to resolve Obama's internal demons.

It really makes me ill that we have a "black people club" in our government.

There should be NO separation, no division based on race. It is insulting.

Yep, the real racist Obama has come out of the closet for all to see.

Like we did know this already.

“Obama recently met with black journalists”

I will bet Eugene Robinson was there.

I agree with you.

We also shouldn’t have race divided groups in the police and firefighter departments in the larger cities.

The Congressional Black Caucus is truly a bunch of corrupt, racist, wedge dividing, tit suckling, nimrods and they ARE dangerous.

Calling a man an Uncle Tom is such an ugly, demeaning and racist thing. What it comes down to is that the man is educated, hardworking, decent and successful. It says that the qualities and behavior necessary for a happy, successful and prosperous life are white. Sounds like something the Klan would say
