The Murder of an American Nazi
CBS News ^ | September 25, 2011

When Jeff Hall, a rising star in the neo-Nazi National Socialist Movement, was murdered last spring by his own 10-year-old son, it seemed easy to blame the boy's exposure to violent rhetoric and guns. But, as correspondent Lesley Stahl reports, the truth is far more complicated. "60 Minutes" investigates the case and the growing strength of hate groups nationwide.

The following script is from "The murder of an American Nazi" which aired on Sept. 25, 2011.

Earlier this year, the leader of a neo-Nazi group was murdered in Riverside, California. His name was Jeff Hall. He was a burly man, six-foot-three, a devoted father of five young children and a plumber who had been unemployed for three years. Jeff Hall was shot at near-zero range in his own living room. What was astonishing - was who shot him.

Jeff Hall at home: We've been through a lot together, some of us, you know. Seriously.

This is 32-year-old Jeff Hall. These pictures were taken just hours before he was executed - right in this room. The executioner - this child: his son. His 10-year-old son. But if you find this image disturbing, consider this one: taken two weeks earlier.

"60 Minutes Overtime"

Video journalist Julie Platner spent a year chronicling the life of an American neo-Nazi and his family

A neo-Nazi rally on the streets of Trenton, New Jersey.

Hall at rally: Who's streets?

Crowd: Our streets!

Hall: Who's streets?

Crowd: Our streets!

Hall: Who's streets?

Crowd: Our streets! Zeig Heil!

Hall delivering speech: We are not afraid of you!

Jeff Hall was a rising star in the largest neo-Nazi group in the country, the National Socialist Movement, or NSM.

Extra: Breeding hatred in the U.S.

Crowd at rally: Zeig Heil!

The numbers nationwide are still small - 500 members tops, but they're growing.

Hall: This isn't dress up, this isn't a game. We are fighting for our children's future.

According to Jeff Hall and the NSM that future would be an all-white, non-Semitic America.

Hall: There's other groups I could join. There's tons of them.

Jeff Hall joined only three years ago - but seen as personable and charismatic, he quickly became the leader of NSM in California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada.

Hall: Zeig Heil! Zeig Heil! Zeig Heil!

This footage was shot by Julie Platner, a filmmaker and photographer, who was able to gain the NSM's trust.

Nazi: How ya doin' Miss Julie?

And enter their closed world of private meetings.

Hall: Julie has me mic'ed

Another hit piece trying to link right-leaning conservatives to nazis and extremism. If you read the whole transcript, you find out at the end that the father being a neo-nazi really had nothing to do with the son killing him at all. The son, as far as everyone interviewed was concerned, was predestined to become some sort of killer. Apparently he exhibited all kinds of classic signs. Then there was the father whom was abusive to the mother and son. The son at the age of 10 decides he needs to kill his father to escape the abuse.

The whole nazism aspect had nothing to do with the whole story. It’s just another piece of stealth yellow-journalism to feed lies to the ignorant public.

Anyone wacked enough to believe Nazism is a viable political strategy today, I would not be at all surprised to see him being cruel to his own family.

Anyone wacked enough to believe Nazism is a viable political strategy today, I would not be at all surprised to see him being cruel to his own family.

Family stated he was a good father (I guess that = not abusive) until he started drinking.

From the obvious slant of the story I don't think the neo-nazism had much if anything to do with the build-up to his son killing him.

The lefty journalist makes the nazism=right-winger connection from the get-go implying that the 10 year old son was a Hitler incarnate and that's why he became a mass-murdering pre-teen.........and then spends the rest of the story telling us how the son murdered the dad because he was an abusive father whom had fallen into the bottle and been drinking heavily.

This pinko-journalist essentially is using the article to imply that all unemployed lower middle-class conservative white people with big families and guns are obviously all extremists and racists and raise killer kids that are extremists and racist.

It's tired old schtick that shouldn't fly as real journalism anymore.

“60 Minutes” investigates the case and the growing strength of hate groups nationwide.

I’ll bet they ONLY investigate “white” hate groups. You know, only “whitey” is capable of “hate” in the eyes of liberals such as those at CBS.

Right on que as the elections advance the MSM starts the Nazi theme. Coincidence? Hardly. Look for many more such themed stories. Look for a perse uted Homosexual story and some racist event to grab national attention. We’ve seen all this before. It’s coming again.

Obama himself is intentionally stirring up strife. I believe Obama is purposely insighting violence. Look at his class incindiary warfare language. Look at his talk of telling Blacks to gett up and march! Obama is trying to get citizens at each others thoats.

You know, I watched this report, and there was nothing linking the dumbass Nazis to any conservatives or rightwing agenda.

When 60 Minutes fails to link Nazis to conservatives, why do people on this site do it for them?

Even denying the connection, when they didn't suggest it exists, makes conservatives look defensive.

The biggest evil of the Nazis was state sponsored racism, which led to the holocaust.

After Holder’s dismissal of the NBP voter intimidation case, what does that say about America?

Black liberation theology is negro-nazism.

If these people were real journalists, they would explain to the masses what national socialism is. It is when the government creates a partnership between large corporations to run the country. There is private property ownership, but the business are all controlled by and with the government. What we call crony capitalism today. The only time this is called right wing is in Europe, but in no way resembles American style right wing.

Then again, we don’t have real journalists in this country. At least not at the corporate level because they are all in bed with the government also. Like good national socialists/crony capitalists...

It was funny watching this because my mom was here from PA this past weekend and she grew up in Nazi Germany. She was pretty pissed at these idiots.

If you want to stand up for the white race, fine by me but don’t be an a$$ about it. Nothing cool or intelligent about it especially to those who had to live through it, even if you were “pure aryan” like my mom’s family was.

” There is private property ownership, but the business are all controlled by and with the government.”

That’s a primary political tenet of obuma and his left wing fascist democrat party. America has been steering toward fascism for decades.

" America has been steering toward fascism for decades."

If people would realize the true tenets of fascism and not the sensationalized stuff about gas chambers, auschwitz and the murder of jews they would see this statement is scary but true. If people would look at other fascists states in history like Italy and Spain they would see the parallel to what they did and where we are heading. Just ask Jeffery Immelt, CEO of GE. Mr. head crony capitalist...

Because from the beginning the Neo Nazi’s have tried to influence opinions on FR. Jim has always caught them and banned them. but, they try to pretend to be mainstream. You always know them by the constant repetition of lies.

And heaven forbid anyone talk about rational solutions to real problems.
As far as the guy in the report, he had been out of work for 3 years. His wife and Mother were concerned about his activities. but when he started taking his hate out on the child and wife, it ended.

And the HATE.
