If they feel justified in shooting an unarmed person "brandishing" a cell phone, I think they won't have any trouble justifying shooting down someone brandishing an unarmed jet.Exactly. They've had too many "accidents." And don't forget, they don't believe "civilians" should have guns. Enough with holding the NYPD up like it's a model for the rest of the country.

Schumer’s ego would be great plenty to do the job...

Read tag line. In this case I never envisioned a municipality having this capability, either Im sure did the founding fathers.

Even if they didn’t, they should say they can.

Heard a 50 cal. that would do it.
That is exactly their proposal :
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star DHS Knows Who You Are!

“Yesterday NYPD commissioner Kelly blasted all over the press that NYPD could take out a plane if needed. Im thinking Cool! Now we have militarized the Police in New York. With their honest and upright reputation, Im bringing popcorn to the nightly news! Alas, today we find out what those Billions of US Taxpayers dollars have gone for. A 2011 version of Barney Fife leaning out of a helicopter shouldering a .50 cal yelling I can get em Andy! Swear just a little closer!.
So over there on the East Coast things seem to be piling up a bit. Something about getting special patriotic papers to fly on a plane that just might be in the sites of a .50 cal. What could possibly go wrong?”

The NYPD has a M113 armored personnel carrier in their crowd control /anti terrorism arsenal. I wonder if they also have this set up as well. MIM-72A/M48 Chaparral is a US Army self-propelled surface-to-air missile system based on the AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missile system. The launcher is based on the M113 family of vehicles. It entered service with the US Army in 1969 and was phased out between 1990 and 1998. It was intended to be used along with the M163 Vulcan Air Defense System, the Vulcan covering short-range short-time engagements, and the Chaparral for longer range use. Any thing is possible.

So Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Kelly want the NYPD to have anti-aircraft weapons!?!?
This would be the same NYPD that got into a gunfight with a bad guy years ago — one bad guy with a six shot revolver and three NYPD cops armed with Glock 17 9mm self-loaders. The running gunfight saw six shots expended by the perp at the cops (no hits) and 33 shots fired at the perp (no hits). The cops finally captured the perp when he tried to jump from one building to another and didn't make it to the other side; the cops ran the perp off the building roof!
Now, just imagine the NYPD with really serious crew served weapons . . . not.
