Skip to comments. My Own Activism: Drudge Ignoring Fast & Furious
Posted on 09/26/2011 9:29:41 PM PDT by dagogo redux
I thought I'd start a running thread, updated daily or whenever I get around to it, highlighting the almost total blackout of news about Fast & Furious by what I always figured was one of the central conservative news clearinghouses: The Drudge Site.
While we can read endlessly there about all manner of tabloid goings on concerning the media and political elite, I have noted only three articles about Fast & Furious since the news began to break many months ago, and all three of those articles were quickly pulled.
When I mentioned on another thread this morning my intention to start a thread such as this, a fellow FReeper posted shortly thereafter that Drudge had posted a link to the latest F&F news. The link presented evidence that ATF agents HAD been buying guns with taxpayer money for distribution directly to cartel members. When I got home this evening and went to look for this posting, it is no longer on Drudge. Other frivolous inanities from several days ago remain on Drudge, but not the more recent blockbuster F&F news. This is the way it also was with the other ephemeral links he's posted before.
I expect the Administration, and the 3-to-5 letter Federal Agencies involved, and the Congress critters on both sides of the aisle, and the MSM, to all participate in the blackout of this horrendous, treasonous act. However, I do not expect it of Drudge.
Messages and suggested links I have sent to his site have been ignored. Perhaps an ongoing tally on FR will spur him to report on something more meaningful than Simon Cowell and Chaz Bono.
yeah...you are wrong...druge has covered it...
I think most of the major revelations and stories have shown up on Drudge. Are there any big ones inparticular you think he missed?
As dagogo redux said, when he does post it, the lifetime is very short — unlike other issues...
I've wondered if Drudge doesn't want Americans to become sick of hearing about it. You know, saving it for 2012. This, IMHO, will be the most important thing in the 2012 election. Even if there is no proof Obama knew, it was his administration and he's going to look dirty.
The Republicans may think wasting taxpayer money on things like Solindra will be the end of 0. I don't think so. Half of Americans don't pay taxes, most are Obama supporters. They don't care if 0 is giving our money away, they're getting their cut. Most of them do, however, have children. Does Obama think Hispanics are going to vote for him when they find out he sent guns to Mexico, and other Latin American countries, to kill Latino children? I don't think so.
This is where the words, "you have no heart", should be used. No one who values the lives of others would/could do something like this. Oh, I'm sure they'll play the old, "out of the loop", BS. When Obama denies knowing, and you can bet he will, that clip should be used with a clip of him playing golf and the question, "Why didn't you know? Were you to busy? But, this issue and those words will never be used if Republicans don't nominate a fighter. We, for sure, CAN NOT afford someone like McCain, who's afraid of offending anyone.
I check in at Drudge every morning. I’ve seen only three links regarding F&F. If others were posted, they were exceedingly short lived, as was the one absent early this morning and gone by nightfall.
I’m also on the MestaMachine’s great ping list for F&F here on FR - I get 3-5 pings a day on F&F. Many of the threads here at FR are redundant, I’ll admit, but at least a major new development comes out every few days. Given the magnitude of the revelations, even the most trivial outweigh 90% of the postings on Drudge these days.
David Codrea’s, “A Journalist’s Guide to ‘Project Gunwalker’ “ is chock full of coverage going back many months and continuing to pick up pace, and is in addition to the many other sources starting to at last take notice.
I suppose anyone satisfied with Drudge’s coverage would be satisfied with no coverage at all. Nothing to see here - move along.
Drudge is heavy on the Lady GagGag and other Hollyweird crap these days. We can only hope he’s waiting until the SHTF on F&F in the spring, when it will really matter. But if it’s too soon, it might spook Barry into dropping out, and we’ll be running against She Who Shall Not Be Named.
“Was” is the operant word. Posted shortly after I left for work this AM, gone by the time I got home. I never saw it.
A shorter life, if I’m not mistaken, than the Lady Gaga story.
I’m gonna keep at this vigil over time until Drudge’s future actions prove me wrong. I’d LIKE him to prove me wrong.
Greata had a Great piece on it this evening in an interview with Senator Grasley(sp?)
Well, we need to go there and ask him why, all of us.
It seems that you are ignoring Fast & Furious. Why??? You have run few headlines about it and when you do it is just for a short time. You know that this is one of the biggest stories of the century so far. I hope you realize what this story means to all those effected by it, to our Country and what it's implications are. You haven't been bought off or something, have you? I expect much better coverage than this from you. Stop dinking around with all the movie star garbage and do your duty as a cutting line news service. Sincerely, XXXX
What is “banglist”?
Most of Drudge’s articles seem to hang around for a week these days. It would be odd if something lasted less than a day. I wonder what’s behind it.
“it might spook Barry into dropping out, and well be running against She Who Shall Not Be Named.”
Obumbo will drop out when, and only when, his puppet masters
cut his strings.
As I have said many times before, it will take an act of God to save America, and he is not talking.
Instapundit always has the latest news on the gun scandals.
Thanks, all, for the replies, even the dissenters.
Nothing on Drudge about F&F today, at this moment. Same stuff - with a few replacements - as last night.
Several have mentioned on this thread, and I’ve heard it before, that Drudge, other conservative news sources, GOP Congress critters, and other such supposed patriots are purposefully playing this down to postpone the bombshell effect until a more strategic time in the election cycle.
While I understand this possible reckoning coming from politicians, journalists - to the mind of this probably naive boy - ought to concern themselves with news, the investigation and the reporting of news. History writers can tell the story when all the facts are in. Propagandists can select and slant the facts. But news folks like Drudge need to follow the events as they come to light. Just seems to me.
Just sent Drudge the links to the Washington Times article about Cain’s statement, as well as the Katie Pavlich article from Townhall.com.
Certainly seem newsworthy, no?
Will we hear news, or crickets from Matt?
Three of those articles concern the subject at hand and one of them was up for only a few hours yesterday. I am not sure about the other two.
I go to Drudge every day and have only seen the one Fox News report he posted for a few hours yesterday.
I have no idea why he is ignoring it unless he decided it is going no where thanks to the incompetent and corrupt Republicans in charge of the investigation.
So far it has just been a couple of Republicans lip flapping and arm waving about “mistakes were made” as they stand by and allow the DOJ to cover up the evidence. It would probably harm Republicans if the public saw their carelessness and incompetence in handling this treason. So it might be just as well no one see them in action.
As dagogo redux said, when he does post it, the lifetime is very short unlike other issues...
It’s about money and eyeballs, not issues.
Ping to you with an update for 9/27/11.
A. This AM, circa 8 AM PST, not much changed on Drudge from the night before. Nothing about F&F.
B. About 2 PM PST, nothing quite as titillating as a semen stained blue dress, but we learn from Drudge about:
1. A two-faced cat.
2. Rihanna disrobing.
3. UNH reversal on energy drink ban.
4. Guitar stolen from a casket.
5. Energy generated from poop.
6. Lesbian Actress booted from plane for kiss.
7. NOTHING about F&F.
C. 8PM PST, the salacious blue dress is still nowhere to be found, and the lesbian actress has completed her two days of Drudge fame, but the other posts above are joined by these stunning revelations:
1. Michael Jackson is still dead.
2. Live sex used for UT frat recruiting.
3. DWS Wardrobe malfunction.
4. An essential Susan Sarandon update.
5. NOTHING about F&F.
Meanwhile, at FR, MestaMachine has pinged 4 new links to F&F news today.
As for the postulation that the length of time a post stays on Drudge depends on the number of hits it gets - if true, it makes a mockery of any journalistic seriousness with which I once regarded Drudge. Straight forward porn would serve those ends better.
I will likely be out of wi-fi range for the next week, and will post updates if I can. Anyone who wants to keep the F&F DrudgeWatch going in similar fashion to the above is welcome to jump right in. Ping MestaMachine when you do update the Watch - he/she’s been kind enough to keep this available through the ping list, and many thanks go out for doing so.
You’re mighty welcome. See you back here soon.
more meaningful than Simon Cowell and Chaz Bono.
The banglist is everything guns.
Run by Joe Brower
The Gunwalker list is strictly the Gunwalker project.
nachum’s list/gunwalker keeps track of all the articles posted to FR about Gunwalker.
AFIRE list is illegal immigrant issues.
9/28/11, 6AM PST.
For those who missed the ongoing death of Michael Jackson yesterday, its still news at Drudge, as are the history-changing insights into Rihanna, poop, Susan Sarandon, DWS Nipple Alert, energy drinks un-ban, and UT frat sex. Of course, youll be glad you tuned back in again today in these perilous times, because other news-worthy items reveal:
1. Times square gets film noir makeover.
2. Google dissed for my son Gay app.
3. Andy Rooney finally gone.
4. NADA (thats a little Spanish lingo) about F&F.
Meanwhile at FR MestaMachine pings a link to Grassley saying government sold guns to Underworld, and hes being stonewalled in investigation.
I’ll try to stay connected over the next week when possible, watching the watchers while they watch the paparazzi.
1136 PST Update:
Drudge continues to maintain eternal vigilance on Michael Jacksons condition, and has also been diligent in bringing us worthy news about these aspects of the times that try men’s souls:
1. Brazilian lingerie-clad ad.
2. Botched Boob Job.
3. Mick Jagger essentials.
4. NOT ONE WORD ABOUT F&F.
Meanwhile, 7 (seven) new F&F Pings from FRs MestaMachine, as all hell breaks loose at Forbes, CNN, and elsewhere.
Earlier today I sent the Drudge Boy two sets of relevant F&F links to peruse and consider. No response.
Perhaps if a connection can be made between the drugs Michael Jackson died on, and guns sold by the ATF to the cartel that supplied those drugs to MJ’s doctor . . .
Today at 9:30 AM:
WHouse quietly releases new documents on secret gun-running operation...
Reveal extensive communications between WH and agent in charge...
Let’s see how long they stay up today.
On October third
Got back from the wilderness a day early.
Thanks to MestaMachine for keeping the watch during my absence (and for the great ping list!).
Wow, you just cant get back to the Drudge Report soon enough, can you? I find myself suddenly in need of emergency updating on:
1. The Hank Williams, Jr. tragedy.
2. Knox crying.
3. The post-racial View.
4. Crazy ants.
5. Driverless car stunts.
6. Madonna (yawn).
7. NOT ONE WORD ABOUT FAST & FURIOUS!
8 AM, 10/4/11
A truly exceptional news day on Drudge. The photo of the Material Late-Middle-Aged-Woman is sadly missing, but we find the following vital stories:
1. Two Knox updates.
2. Whole Foods autism run amok.
3. Starbucks idiocy rescues economy.
4. A small, right-column photo of the DOJ seal, with a small, distant bokeh-blurred head of Holder reigns atop what LOOKS to be three new links about F&F: BUT, the links are all to the SAME CBS News article about Holders lying. Three links, one article - way to dig deep Drudge. Thats why hes the professional.
Whatdayathink, folks - should we give him a three-link score for today?
I dont think so.
For those keeping score at home, todays tally for the F&F Ping List, with a related added bonus today from the Border Wars included, is six.
Now there are 6 visible links on Drudge. Has the dam broken?
Republicans call for special counsel to investigate Holder...
‘Either Incompetent’ or ‘Misleading Congress’...
White House screams, swears at reporter for covering scandal...
WHEN DID HE KNOW?
Holder changes story about ATF gun-running op...
Claims misunderstood question from committee...
7 AM PST, 10/5/11
Drudge, bless his heart, has less celebrity nonsense and more actual meat than Ive seen in a while. Perhaps hes waking up to the fact that some serious stuff is going down out there. But still we are treated to the following five to distract from his first serious coverage of F&F, IMOSHO (In My Oh-So-Humble Opinion):
1. Free-market mom selling 1-month-old for pennies on the dollar.
2. Climate change hits Tahoe.
3. Johnny Depp agrees with me, hes overpaid.
4. Simpsons and Sesame Street hit by Obamanomics.
5. Celebrity Michele Obama and her offspring grafting taxpayers for vacations (this is news?).
6. Six (!!!) links about F&F: Three are from one long-lived link I posted about yesterday, the duration perhaps excusing the faked count, and yet three more are from some of the articles we read about at FR yesterday.
Thanks to the eternally vigilant and positively pre-cambrian Texas Fossil, who caught this news last night. Lets see how long the F&F stuff stays posted, and if there is any follow-through from the daily deluge were seeing here. If so, I may sadly have to close this thread . . . .
Thanks for what I consider a compliment.
Drudge started out reporting on celebs. He has also carried the water on some pretty big political events since then.
His celeb content increases when the political news is quiet.
There is some reason that he has been behind the curve on F&F. I am not sure what, but it could be fear.
Some of Obozo’s minions are very dangerous people. What kind of people burned Palin’s church? Chicago thugs? Or committed Marxists?
It was meant as a compliment. :)
I agree it could be fear, but Clinton’s death list was pretty long, and actively growing, when Drudge first broke through. All that’s changed now is that he’s successful and famous.
Drudge has been my go-to source for a conservative news summary for quite a while now. I’m just saddened and frustrated to see us in the middle of what amounts to a war for the survival of our republic, and yet someone of great influence who seemed to be on our side is now unwilling to endure any risk for the sake of that republic.
Thanks again for picking up the slack last night.
Hmmm, I have thought about that for some time. Couple of months ago a FRiend suggested he would work for me if I chose to run for public office and I replied I was too old. But I also told him that I would love a gig going after those who seek to destroy the nation. (Republic) Someone with subpoena power and the resources to investigate them. I said then that I would even take some risks to do just that.
Drudge update: 10/6/11, 7 AM PST
Five F&F posts are still extant from yesterday, one now having been culled from the herd.
But its hard to believe any are still left at all when matched against the more vital news below, competing for the attention of Drudge and the conservative world:
1. Michele O spotted in America.
2. Michael Jackson update: still dead (I admit, the reassurance IS comforting).
3. 1-ton pumpkin goal.
4. Anti-dwarf-tossing law repeal efforts.
5. 71 yo naked (nude?) woman car sex.
Meanwhile on FR, five NEW F&F threads this AM.
You might find this interesting. From:
Holger Danske is stirring......
One of Charles Martels comrades-in-arms at Poitiers was a warrior of the North known Ogier le Danois, later Holger Danske, or Holger the Dane. Although Holger was a historical figure, little is known of him, and most of the written material about him is drawn from legend.
Holger DanskeAccording to the chroniclers, Holger had previously done battle with the Franks over their incursions into Danish territory. But in 732 the menace of the Saracens forced him to set aside his differences with Charles Martel and journey southwards to fight side-by-side with the Frankish forces against the common enemy.
The battle of Poitiers was fought to prevent the common enemy, who had occupied Spain and Portugal, from moving north into the heart of Europe. Of course, the common enemy were the Saracens .that is to say, the Moors ..or in modern terms, the Muslims. Which makes the legend of Holger Danske just a little more up-to-date, it seems to me.
At the end of his days, Holger, like King Arthur, retired to a secluded keep to enter a twilight sleep from which he will awake in the hour of his countrys need. The location most frequently cited for Holgers rest is Kronborg castle at Helsingør (or Elsinore, per Shakespeare).
Here is Holger in the poetry of Ted Hughes, emerging when the time comes that Denmark is undergoing existential threat:
Out through the dark archway of earth, under the ancient lintel overwritten with roots, Out between the granite jambs, gallops the hooded horseman of iron. Out of the wound-gash in the earth, the horseman mounts, shaking his plumes clear of dark soil. Out of the blood-dark womb, gallops bowed the horseman of iron, The blood-crossed Knight, the Holy Warrior, hooded with iron, the seraph of the bleak edge, Gallops along the worlds ridge in moonlight.
And finally, here is Baron Bodissey, writing at Gates of Vienna, evoking Holger Danske in the present emergency:
We all know about the Twelfth Imam, the super-bad Muslim guy at the bottom of the well in Persia. When Armageddon arrives, when Gog grapples with Magog and battle rages across the plain at Megiddo, the Twelfth Imam will awaken and lead the armies of Islam to their final victory, establishing the kingdom of Allah here on Earth.
Forget the Twelfth Imam.
Weve got our own dude sitting on the bench. Call him the Twelfth Viking. Hes suited up, ready to join the contest as soon as hes required.
The Men of the North form the core of the Counterjihad. They are already in action, clearing the back alleys of Anbar Province, riding point in Kabul, and forming up in self-organized groups to defend our borders with Mexico.
As Ive said before, its not race thats the issue here, its culture. The culture of the Danes, the Norsemen, the English, and the Celts. The culture of the hardy and self-reliant Men of the North, always ready to defend their ancient liberties with a ferocity that their enemies can scarcely imagine. The culture of productive enterprise and armed self-determination that has spread to all corners of the globe.
Holger Danske is the man who best represents us. Hell be there in the hour of our greatest need.
The Twelfth Viking I can see his eyelids fluttering even now
Thanks - very interesting. My last name is Austrian, but the other 7/8ths of me is a hopelessly tangled Welsh/Irish/Scotch/English mix - who knows what all Norse blood is intermixed in all that!
Drudge Watch Friday, 10/7/11, 7:20 AM PST:
Well, well, well . . . . NO F&F news. But then, except for a snippet featuring celebrities Woody allen and Michelle O (Oh, the humanity!), no tabloid news either.
Drudge getting serious? Get serious!
OTOH, Only one F&F link on the ping list today. Slow news Friday.
Drudge Watch Friday, 10/7/11, 9 PM PST:
Quick update on todays F&F News score:
Drudge = 0
MestaMachine Ping List = 7
Late 10/8/11, early 10/9/11.
This is getting almost too boring to continue on. As if to thwart me, Drudge has posted NADA on either F&F OR the inane celebrity stuff - all frickin’ day!
Meanwhile, back at the FR ranch: 12 F&F Pings from MestaMachine!
Hard to report on this match if Drudge won’t throw a punch, or won’t even leave his corner after the bell each round. Pathetic.
Compare and contrast-Fast and Furious vs. a recent “important” story:
And note that of the 10 “Fast and Furious” search results, only 6 actually apply to the Holder scandal.
Sunday, 10/110/11, 9 AM PST.
A apparently a “Day of Rest” for Drudge:
Drudge: 0 (But Oprah gets a link, and three links announce that Steve Jobs is still dead)
FR MetaMachine Ping List: 3
Another round goes to FR.
I notice that the out-&-out paparazzi news is less prevalent these days, but the quasi-titillating semi-news seems to have taken its place: “One-testicled Burglar Losses Remaining Testicle to Nude But Dentured Grannie” sort of stuff. Hardly essential stuff to know as the world falls apart and tyrants attempt a treasonous coup in the US.
