Scary truth about Obamacare keeps seeping out
Washington Examiner ^ | 09/25/11 | Editorial Board

When House Speaker Nancy Pelosi famously said that she had to pass Obamacare through Congress so that we could find out what was in it, Americans were given a preview of what they are seeing now -- a profusion of legislative errors and broken promises related to President Obama's virtual government takeover of health care. Just this month, we have seen another tranche of bad Obamacare news.

Last week, Howard Dean, former governor of Vermont and chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2005 to 2009, acknowledged that -- as Obamacare's critics have contended all along -- the bill will prompt many employers to drop their health plans. "Most small businesses are not going to be in the health insurance business anymore after this thing goes into effect," he said. Dean, of course, spun this as a cost reduction for business. But in fact it undercuts two key promises Obama made in order to pass his bill. First, if you like your health coverage, you probably won't be able to keep it. Second, millions of Americans will be dumped by their employers into subsidized insurance exchanges, which means that Obamacare will add significantly to the deficit.

Then again, thanks to a glaring but heretofore unnoticed flaw in the bill's language, Obamacare might not cost as much as expected because it won't serve those it was intended to help. Because supporters failed to read their bill before passing it, the letter of the law provides that low-income Americans in many states will not be eligible for the promised subsidies to purchase insurance. This simple technical mistake, reported this month by Investor's Business Daily, threatens to un-insure millions of those currently insured if they are dumped by employers into federally established insurance exchanges.

Also last week, we learned the true nature of another of Obamacare's empty promises. One of the key programs that made Obamacare appear deficit-neutral on paper -- the CLASS Act -- has now been exposed as nothing more than an accounting gimmick. On paper, this old-age care program brought in extra revenue in its early years by charging premiums without paying out benefits until the out years. It thus helped Obamacare's bottom line temporarily, but obliterated it in the long run. The fact that Obama's Department of Health and Human Services shelved the program indefinitely exposed the president's sleight of hand. Obamacare was designed to game the budget referees so that a massive, budget-busting bill could pass under the radar.

Obamacare, like most large-scale government schemes, has proven to be one man's dream and most Americans' nightmare. Obama has not yet paid the full political price for its passage, but Americans will pay even more dearly if the courts leave it in force.

You mean Howard Dean or obamacare?

How about both?

Yes I had already head of this.Unless you have 3 kids and make less than $30K a year you will not get s subsidy. This is why I wondered how people of lower income would be able to pay out $20k out of pocket then wait until tax time to recoup that $20K and still be able to feed and house their families?

Libs really don’t seem to have much luck with words, math, logic, or business.

You gotta love it.

They keep giving us additional proof that they just are not very smart.

At all.

[The sooner we are rid of this nightmare, the better. ]

The problem is that there is nothing to fill the gap between Obamacare’s inevitable collapse and the collapse of the private insurance industry that is already in motion.

We found out last week that our plan was increasing in cost because of Onannycare. In 2014 it is taxed out of existence as a “Cadillac” plan.

The Supremes are supposed to decide this next summer. I’m hoping the insurance industry can sit tight until then.

” - - - if the courts leave it in force. - - -”

Obama”care” was robo-signed by Congress, and is therefore illegal.

Obama”care” reduces competition, and therefore is illegal by the 1890 Sherman Anti-Trust Law.

Obama”care” also is illegal according to the US Constitution.

Will THE NINE SUPREMES notice any of these three violations? I seriously doubt it.

Well, I wouldn’t trust that passel of supercilious fools on the U.S. Supreme Court to do the right thing so it’s up to the people to let the politicians know that if they don’t repeal this travesty sometime soon, they will be ridden out of DC on a rail.

Unfortunately, it will probably be very difficult to repeal.

I already know my employer is planning to drop our healthcare plan and "pay the fine" and throw us all to the tender mercies of Obamacare. 2012 will be my last year with a good insurance plan. I intend to ring it up for all it is worth.

I have serious back problems. Earlier this year, my doctor did cortisone injections; but they did not help much. My doctor thinks I will need back surgery "sooner or later". I am going to tell him "let's do it sooner. Hell, you probably won't be my doctor in 2013 anyway".

I also have a knee that goes out on occasion. I'm gonna explore knee replacement, too. I have no doubt that at age 55, I will fall into Obama's "just take a blue pill" category.

My premium went up by over 30% this year thanks to Obama. I shudder to think what will happen next year. Even if Obamacare is thrown in the hopper, I don’t think I will ever see lower rates.

FUBO.

Heard a report on FNC this morning that Sebelius, the the Sec of Health and Human Services, is going to enforce deadline for insurance companies to send everyone’s health records to her - the action is mandated by Law.

Pass it before you read it, let alone giving the average American allowed to know what their government is doing.

Another thing concealed is the plenary power of the secretary of HHS. She is now putting Catholic hospitals under the gun despite the president’s promise to maintain the policy of the Hyde Amendment. His intentions were made clear when he appointed this rabid supporter of abortion.

Pelosi was misquoted. What she really said was

"We have to pass it before they find out what's in it."

Kapish?

My premium went up by over 30% this year thanks to Obama

Ours went up 44%. When I tried to cost out new coverage for my company, I couldn't find any, because based on the NEW rules, the company was not compliant with the law, therefore we had to stay with the old plan (grandfathered)

New rule says that 70% of your eligible employees must be on YOUR plan; no matther that they might have a better plan with a spouse.

Kathleen Sebelius has been cranking out 2 or 3 unfunded mandates a week. Why wouldn’t it go up?

The good part is we can’t lose. If SCOTUS upholds it, it will be a firestorm part of the 2012 election. If SCOTUS dumps it, it will be a firestorm part of the 2012 election. LOL!

Unfortunately, it will probably be very difficult to repeal.

I think it could be as simple as:

- A house and senate that will repeal it in toto and a president that will sign the repeal.
- A president that will revoke all the EOs relevant to Obamacare.
