LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- GE began accepting applications for hundreds of new jobs at Appliance Park on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. The company received its limit of 6,000 applications by 7:20 a.m. Zappos, in Shepherdsville, is also hiring thousands of temporary workers for seasonal employment.

GE currently employs about 4,000 workers at Appliance Park, but is adding 480 new factory positions, the first of which will begin work in February.

Applications for GE’s new jobs are no longer being accepted. GE spokeswoman Kim Freeman said the company reached its limit of 6,000 applications 50 minutes after it began accepting online applications.

The positions pay $13 dollars an hour and will focus on building the new 2012 products coming to Appliance Park, including a hybrid water heater and a new refrigerator model.

Zappos is looking to fill 3,000 positions for seasonal holiday work at its Shepherdsville distribution center. Kelly Services in Louisville is handling the hiring.

480 factory positions. Zowie. No wonder GE CEO Immelt is the Jobs and Obama Administration Competitiveness Committee Chair.

But this is not an indicator of unemployment being high because Wasserman Schultz says they have created millions of jobs and the economy is coming back because of things what Barry did.

I know that people are desperate for jobs.....but working for GE?

By the way, I recently noticed that my Walmart here in Tennessee sells ONLY one brand of light-bulbs....those made by GE. I went elsewhere...

True. He did stuff, and folks are making stuff.

That could be an indicator: Time to Application Limit. Also Application to Position Ratio. We could take second and third derivatives, too. We could base futures contracts on them, to hedge recession/inflation risks. We could even structure aggregate wages into leveraged securities (we'd have to get them rated, but that's doable) that could be sold to pension funds. Imagine, getting your entire lifetime's expected pay in one, discounted, lump sum! It could be a whole new boom.
